Homer….The Movie! 4 paws up!

December 31st, 2008 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Homer the matinee idol lovers! Our Homer is a matinee idol of the first degree! Homer could put George Clooney to shame who is also from Kentucky.

Too bad Homer does not make the doe that the other pretty boy makes! LOL

I could tell that Homer was having the time of his life on this walk. This guy has places to go and if you notice, he has a propeller wag! It was so totally cute!

Do you want to donate to Homer’s cause? I would really like to reach my goal. Here is Homer’s fundraising page for you to take a look at if you have not already done that. To those of you who have donated, your money saved his life. You can see from the video that he has a huge amount of love.

Here is Homer’s fundraising page. No amount is too small!

Just look at these pictures of our boy getting a new toy from his Mom! They took his cath out this morning and that is his Christmas red bandage on his short arm!

img_8914

He is doing so good according to his vet. The only thing was, the vet thought that he was a bit more swollen (in the man area) than usual, but due to his age and his generous swing back there he was not worried.

I took him on a gentle walk and sat with him for about an hour. He was a total Velcro hound and it was next to impossible to get a picture of him. This toy helped.

img_8918

This is what he did the majority of the time. He sat right by my side. He loves love!

I will be posting a video very shortly of the day I picked up Homer, so stay tuned and please check out his fundraising page.

I love my dear readers!

I will be back shortly with more pictures and another update from Homer!

Remember – any amount would be fantastic.

This just in from Chaps and Emma

December 31st, 2008 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and springing hounds from the pound lovers!

I was sitting here doing a tally of Homer’s expenses and the very first one was his pound fee. Since he was considered to be 12 and I was part of a rescue mission he only cost 26.00 dollars to spring.

Chaps and Emma want to start the new year off right and they are paying his pound bill.

26.00

paidinfull

Have a great life Homer, love Chaps and Emma (here’s your hat, what’s your hurry?)

I am working on the rest of Homer’s expenses and I will be updating all day. I hope my dear readers keep checking back all day. Once I get the tally up I can tell folks how to donate to help out this old guy. We are hoping for a little bit from a lot of lovers! These old guys can really rack up a bill! Just ask Marilyn at HOP!

The vet told me not to come down until about 2:00pm when his patients slack off. That way I can have a room and visit with Homer.

More later………Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Happy New Year’s Eve dear readers……..

December 31st, 2008 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and New Year’s Eve and my readers lovers! You know what I mean!

I hope all of you are going to have a wonderful day, evening, and 2009.

I have never been one for making resolutions, but I think I am going to dub 2009 the year I try to raise money to have on hand for these occasions such as Homer. I am also going to try and find a foster home in Ft. Thomas or work a better rate at the vet office. I really like how close he is and that he himself has basset hounds.

Pretty lofty goals, but I think they are more than achievable.

I am going to get ready to go visit Homer. The kids are still in bed, so I have to roust them and get them fed.

Wow, I look at them sleeping and smile. Chaps has his head on a pink pillow and Emma is under the blanket. 2008 was a warm year for us, a bit stinky, but warm.

img_7721

We are really looking forward to 2009 and hearing from all of our dear readers.

I will be blogging today and getting ready for Homer’s party. I better get crackin’!

HAPPPPPPPPPPPPPYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY NEW YEAR!

Love, Cat, Chaps, Emma and Homer

Homer is out of surgery 12:56pm 12-30-08

December 30th, 2008 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Thank God Homer is out of Surgery Lovers:

HE DID GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

I just got off the phone with his doctor and Homer trooped right through both of his procedures. He is, according to his Dr., “Waking up and enjoying his drugs”! LOL

I guess I captured the last picture of the family jewels yesterday.

img_8859

And then there were none! He will be so much better for it.

Oh I love that guy. It is so interesting how quickly one can fall in love.

I will be visiting him either later today or tomorrow morning. I want to have some more pictures of him for his Bill paying New Year’s Eve Party!

Believe it or not, I do have a job which I better try hard and keep so I can keep on keeping on with the Northern KY homeless basset hounds. hehehe

More updates later………….Love Cat, Chaps, Emma and Homer

Want to wring your hands with me?

December 30th, 2008 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Surgery Haters! Don’t you just hate it when your baby is going to have surgery? I pace and worry to the point of nausea.

Homer is going to have his neuter surgery today and at the same time, he is going to have his horrible teeth cleaned. The decision was made to go ahead and do this prior to his transport. I have everything in place for Homer to be transported on Saturday. That is a blog posting in and of itself, which you can rest assured I will get to!

Anyway, back to our Homer and hand wringing session.

img_8885

This is going to work out really good for Homer because he is basically going to get private vet care. The vet explained to me that not many people are doing these types of procedures right after the holidays. Due to the economy vet care is down over all.

Yesterday Homer had a much needed bath and the tech reported that he did fantastic. He was filthy and now he is all spit shined and ready for hugging.

Also, the staff at the vet office absolutely love him and he is really becoming quite the big man on campus.

Homer’s bills are mounting and I am going to throw him a New Year’s Eve bill paying party. I want to help his new Mom out all we can. Thank goodness she was wanting to take an older gentleman into her home and give him the love he so deserves.

Well, I better go wait by the phone. He is in surgery right now as I type. His geriatric blood panel came back with flying colors.

Sling Homer some drool and check back for my next Homer update. I think I need a Pepito bismol.

More Later…Cat, Chaps and Emma

Pictures of Homer are worth a 1000 words – but I still have a few! LOL

December 29th, 2008 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Homer ditching the pound lovers:

When I arrived at the pound today I had to wait in line. I was impressed with the staff and the number of volunteers. People were dropping off dogs and people were adopting dogs. It was strangely fascinating. Not so much the drop offs mind you, but the adopting process was fun to watch.

Well, it was my turn and out walks Mr. Delicious – Homer the Great! He was so sweet. I cannot imagine what these dogs are thinking. Here he comes, a wonderful trusting soul. He seemed a bit scared and confused as you might imagine.

img_8822

Here he is sitting next to a case of Lily books! I can only imagine what he is thinking. My Mom said that if he only knew where he was at this moment, he could breath a sigh of relief. Maybe one of the few he has had his entire life.

Hopefully, the McDonald french fries I bought for him got his mind tracking in good direction! I know a way to a man’s heart!!!

After we dined on a few taters it was off to my neighborhood park for my evaluation of Homer. I consider myself a basset hound expert, (just ask me)!

Homer cried the entire way and looked out the back window. I felt so sorry for him. He did calm down a bit when I sang to him. I was singing hush little baby don’t you cry. He came closer to me and at red lights I rubbed his ears. That really helped ease the crying. Thank goodness we were alone!

Here we are at the park!

img_8828

Homer did great at the park! We spent about 2 hours together so I could mainly love on him, but also check him over for the vet. I found a few basset bumps, smelled his ears, looked at his nasty teeth, checked his nails and inspected his rear end area. It was swollen and extremely full in the gland department. That had to hurt. It could be why he was crying.

This guy is a real find. I cannot believe that someone would dump him. They don’t come much better than Homer.

Homer got an A+ 100 for leash walking! He did not pull or jerk. He even obeyed my commands if he was heading in the wrong direction, (towards unknown yucky stuff)!

img_8863

Look how long and luscious our boy is!

img_8839

Smell, smell, smell!

I attached him to Chaps and Emma’s picture taking station and he hated it. He started to bark at me!
Get back here now!

img_8838

This is his manly profile!

img_8843

What a good boy – We had the best time today!

Look at this cute rear end shot!

img_8871

This was taken as we headed back to the bassethoundtown.com, basset hauling vehicular unit! Time to go to the vet and next holding tank until we get our transport set up!

img_8873

Here we are at the vet. My vet has 2 basset hounds and really there is nothing better than having a vet who has your breed.

img_8883

My Mom said it looks like an artist painted his spots. I have to agree with her!

THEN JUST LIKE MAGIC – I GOT THE MONEY SHOT! PLEASE CLICK ON THIS PICTURE TO CAPTURE HOMER AND HIS TRUE SWEET SELF!

img_88891

After Homer got off of the table, he came to me and hugged me. He actually jumped up, put his front paws around my neck and placed his head in my shoulder. It is a moment that I will never forget as long as I live.

It really does take a village and I am proud to be a part of ours. It is an honor and a privilege to shepard a few needy souls though life. Even though Homer and I only had a mini amount of time we connected on a giant level.

I will keep everyone posted. I have a small video of our guy that I hope to post soon.

Today was a Great Day. The best day ever for Homer! Can you imagine bassethoundtown.com pulling up to a pound if you are a basset?

A few of the rescue workers started clapping for the old guy! Tear jerking I tell you, just tear jerking.

More clapping later……..Love, Cat, Chaps (who is still mad) Emma and our Homer!

Homer is safe and sound and very healthy!

December 29th, 2008 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Homer update lovers – I just got home a little while ago and I just wanted to tell everyone following our Homer that he is safe and sound and very healthy.

I am working on an extended posting with pictures and hopefully a small video. I took over 70 pictures of our guy and they are loading right now. He is a very good looking boy and a very sweet and kind boy.

OK – I have to go work on the pictures, but I will be back with an insane amount of pictures.

He really liked me. I think the pound lip gloss did the trick. LOL!

Here is one picture to get you started!

More VERY SOON!……..Cat, Chaps (kinda mad at me) and Emma
