Poor Grandpa

January 21st, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Grandpa lovers: Well, they did not release Grandpa today. I told Chaps and Emma, chins up and lets look forward to tomorrow.

So far so good with the Mayor. I have seen no signs of hurl.

I think I told my dear readers that I gave Chaps the middle name of Wayne, the same middle name that Grandpa has. This is them the day after I brought Chaps home back in 2005.

OMG – they were the talk of the town on their walks. Cutest thing ever.

Delicate bassets, do you have one?

January 21st, 2009 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and delicate basset lovers:

Our Mayor, Chaps Rudert is a very delicate basset hound. He worries a lot and then he gets sick and throws up. I just knew with Grandpa going to the hospital yesterday it would upset the Mayor’s apple cart.

Sure nuf. I thought he made it without throwing up yesterday but I found “it” this morning. He only does this when he is very worried or I should say when I am very worried. I am going to give him a Tums today before I leave for the hospital.

UPDATE – GRANDPA

January 20th, 2009 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and update lovers!

I just talked to grandpa and the only thing he wanted to know about was how Chaps and Emma were doing.

He knows that Chaps is a worry wart and Emma is a chow hound. He worries about his grand dogs.

He especially worries about Chaps who is a bigger worry wart than his he is. I assured Grandpa that the kids were fine.

They can not wait to get him home tomorrow!

Where were you when Mr. Obama became President Obama?

January 20th, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and knowing this question is going to be one for generations to come.  May I give you my answer?

I was with an African American nurse named Mike, my Mom and my Dad who was admitted to the emergency room this morning.

Grandpa was having some stoke like symptoms and my Mom and I drove him to the Emergency room this morning.  His nurse, Mike is the best caregiver ever.

Grandpa is spending the night at the hospital so they can monitor his heart.  The initial battery of tests came back with good results but tomorrow will be a more detailed process.

I don’t know for sure, but I think Mike wanted to spend the moment with us.  He had a lot of other patients, but he picked us to watch the actual moment with.

Obama Inauguration
(President Obama sworn in with Lincoln BibleThe Bible Barack Obama used at today’s swearing-in ceremony carries great historic and social significance. It was used by Abraham Lincoln at his first inauguration in 1861.)

At the end of the swearing in we clapped softly and gave each other hugs.  It really was very emotional and a few tears were flowing.

I told Mike I was honored to recall this moment in time forever with such a thoughtful and wonderful caregiver.

This was never where I thought I would be witnessing this event in history. I am  just glad that I was there for my Dad and Mom.  I am also glad I got to meet Mike.

Mike made Grandpa calm way down and enjoy the moment.  He was gauging his cognitive function via the ceremony and that is what made Mike even more touching.

Thank you Mike.  I will recall this story forever.

More forever later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I am sure you all know by now that Pedigree is donating a portion of every sale to it newly formed 501(c)3 not for profit organization for shelter dogs.

Kudos to you Pedigree.

2nd Lt. Ronald Hilley (on the left as you view picture) and Riverside junior Staff Sgt. Miles Schmidt in attending the three-day Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference in Washington.

The three were among a handful of students nationwide selected by school officials, community leaders and members of Congress to participate in the
leadership conference.

The cadets all fly out of Atlanta this afternoon.

In Washington, they will attend the inaugural ceremony and parade, and will also attend the Congressional Inaugural Ball. At the youth forum, cadets will be able to interact with scheduled guests Colin Powell and Al Gore, and also may get to dine with seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong.

Help Chaps win $1000 for house of puddles. It’s easy, all you do is vote for him!

January 17th, 2009 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and voting for Chaps lovers. I just want to mention that I am working on getting a link installed at the top of my blog so you can vote for Chaps with ease when you visit my blog. It should be up something this weekend, but for now I want to remind everyone to vote for the big guy. Here is the link,

VOTE FOR CHAPS, YOUR MAYOR CLICK HERE!

The Mayor has picked this video selection for your viewing pleasure. He wants to show off his playful side. It was the second video I ever made so I was not good at editing endings. When the credits roll it’s over.

The song goes on for a few more seconds. I always watch the entire thing because I love that song.

Enjoy your Saturday.
