Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Corgi/dachshund mixes lovers!  This is just too much fun as you can see from LuLu and her Mommy going to K-Mart to purchase a soft measuring tape for gathering official basset hound town ear measurements! As you can see, LuLu loves to ride in the cart like any other kid!

After they got home it was a fight to the finish.  Her Mom states,

“Lulu was incredibly hard to get to sit still for the pictures. My husband took about 50 other blurry pictures of the wild thing resisting her measurements. We thinks she is embarrassed they aren’t as long as most bassets but she is still growin’!”

LuLu checks in with the very precise measurement of 8.214387 inches!  I am still enjoying that detail!

One more for the record books, that is until she re-submits her measurements after she is fully growed up!  hehehe

Next up for our ear measurement pleasure is Bodacious Brutus.

Mommy states, “Brutus enjoyed the measuring because it required no effort on his part. Brutus enjoys it when he can just lay down and be touched. (also it looks as if his ear is being stretched but I assure you it is not. It is actually resting on the rolling cooler)!

Thank you for that assurance Trisha!  Here is the big guy with his submission of 7.5 inches!

Now moving on to Jaws!  Drum roll please………….JAWS!  Not to be out done this corgi/dachshund mix wants to go down in history!

His Mom states, “He was dumped off at one of my Dad’s construction sites and I thought he was so cute so I kept him. My parents live on acreage and have a few dro offs in addition to their bassets. I have had Jaws for almost 9 years. He used to
bite my nephews and drew blood on me the first time I met him so I named him
Jaws. He has since lost all of his teeth except four of them so the name
doesn’t fit so well now!”

Oh Jaws, we love you all the same in bassethoundtown!  Show us your stuff!

The Canaday Hounds are now a part of history for eons and eons!

Howllo Fellow Ear Length Lovers!  BHT residents Nell and Sophie want to be a part of history!  Yes!  We are thrilled to add these two beauties to the archives.

First off we have our Nell!

OK, OK, this is not a long haired basset but a sweet Sussex Spaniel named Nell.  OMG!  I just love Sussex Spaniels.  As far as I can tell they are pretty rare. Here is a blog posting that Kerry of OneMom did about rescuing Nell.  THE TRANSFORMATION AND STORY OF NELL.

This year at Westminster a Sussex named Stump won Best in Show!  This is how I met Kerry of One Mom!  I googled Sussex blogs and found a new friend!  We have so much fun being basset hound town friends.  Her daughter Hannah is so cute and loves Chaps and Emma!

Good girl!  What a sweet heart.  Looks like it is about 7” – Not bad for a wannabe!  hehehehe

Now for Sophie the basset hound.  I have to tell you that when I saw this picture I was sipping OJ and most of it wound up on Emma.  Chaps had fun licking it off.  I always crack up when I see the faces of hounds getting ear measurements.  It looks like they are being tortured!

Well, little Miss Drama Queen!  Looks like we have a solid 8”!  You are still growing so please feel free to re-submit your growth spurts!  We will look forward to your next measuring session!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Bowser and Sadie lovers!  I just love this new blog sub category!  The hounds are so cute and for the most part seem a bit miffed!  However, I know they all get treats after the dreaded ear measuring!  LOL

Bowser Flash Puddles was not happy at all!  He was even howling at his Mom (Emily) prior to the ear measuring!  It’s OK boy.  It does not hurt!

Next up to be in the history books, Sadie!

Sadie’s Dad had to hold her for a second to let her know what she was doing was for the good of all hounds!  LOL

I am sure she had a nice ear rub and treat after the “procedure”!

Sadie Anne comes in at 7”!  Very nice and pretty!

Nice job residents!  Your family is now in the record books for the ages!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and wanting to submit ear length lovers:  I am working on putting the guidelines at the top of this sub blog category so everyone knows how to measure.

I will just blog about it again briefly.  Please pull the slack out of the ear. Do not pull tight.  (VERY IMPORTANT)!

It is really very simple!

JUST KIDDING!

Place the tape measure at the skull where the ear attaches.  A cloth tape measure works great. This is not a contest but a historical record so we can keep track of our beloved hound ear measurements.  Of course I will keep track of the longest ears.  I just want everyone to measure the same way, which so far has worked great.  I just wanted to reiterate this for anyone reading that has not heard the official guidelines of measurement.  I will have my website guy post it at the top very soon.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Official Ear Length Lovers:  Bailey and Belle’s Mom, Debra recorded the event and now these two are a part of history!

Here they are prior to the “event”!  That is Belle on the left and Bailey on the right.

First off Belle was up to bat!  She states,

“My roomate Bailey is making me do this.  As you can see by the picture I am not real thrilled about getting my ears messed up. I’ve got better things to do than sit here and be harassed like this.”

Belle rings in at a sweet 7” long.   Belle isn’t real happy, but she doesn’t get real excited about anything except napping with mom, states Bailey!

Next up to bat is Bailey!  She is a bit bigger in the ear department!

Bailey states:

“My ears are floppy and heavy, measuring 9-1/2″ inches.  I was so good during the process.  I didn’t even try to eat the tape measure!!!!”

Very impressive for a one eyed wonder!

Bailey’s Mom states,

“She lost her eye May 2008.  We have been using Timirol eyedrops in her sighted eye ever since then.  Last week we had a scare with her good eye becoming very red and tearing.  They tested it and believe she had a pressure spike, but didn’t cause any additional damage.  They prescribed Trusopt eyedrops in addition to the Timirol.
We are receiving top notch care from the Michigan State University Hospital in Lansing, Michigan.  I understand they are one of the top teaching hospitals in the USA.

I have owned bassets most of my life.

Losing one eye didn’t really affect Bailey  (she can still catch a treat in mid-air).  So I am hoping if she loses her other eye she will still be able to enjoy life.

Debra, thank you so much for sending in these bassetabulous ear stats.  Belle and Bailey are now a part of history.  Bailey is such a trooper.  I wish I could catch a treat mid air!  How cute is Belle?  Gotta love that name.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Official Ear Measurement Lovers!  Cindy and her hounds have been residents of Basset Hound Town for a long time.  About as long as Jethro’s ears!  Well folks, we have a front runner as of 6-24-09 and his name is Jethro Doyle.  Based upon the measuring rules that we have in BHT the ear is not pulled tight, but just enough to take the slack out.

Jethro Doyle:  10 and 1/4”!   Just look at that face.

Cindy’s next measuring victim was Rugby, AKA Rugs.  Mr. Rugs measures in at 8 and 1/4”.  He does not like the camera too much.

Next up  we have the enchanting Ozzie Doyle with a dainty 7” measurment. Oh, look how cute she is.  Cindy you have some good measuring technique!

Last, but not least is Harriet.  This girl measures 7 and 1/4 inches.  She was none to pleased to be awakened from her nap for this tedious task!

So there you have it folks, 4 more residents howl in with official measurements.  We will keep them safe and sound in basset hound town.  Emma, has proclaimed herself town historian and keeper of the measurements!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and measuring ears lovers!

Residents Susan, Susan’s Mom, Toby and Daisy are howling in with their ear measurements.  Well, not Susan and her Mom, just the kids Toby and Daisy.

Along with the pictures Susan states,

“Both are happy to be officially “on the record for posterity!”

Toby measures the same as the Mayor – 10”.  As you can see, Susan and her Mom follow the measuring instructions to a TEE!

Daisy came up just shy of 9.5 inches.

That information is very detailed and appreciated.

I just love the looks on hounds faces when they get their ears measured.  They probably think they are going to get their ears cleaned!  YIKES!

Thank you Susan and Grandma for submitting your archival photographic evidence that will be protected in the Mayor’s office forever!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Official Archive Lovers:  Chaps has taken it upon himself to establish the OFFICIAL ARCHIVE FOR BASSET HOUND EAR LENGTH.  This archival vault will be housed in Bassethoundtown for all of his residents to view, admire and aspire to!

Today, the first lady of basset hound town, Emma, submitted her archival record.

Here is another shot so you can see how I hold the tape measure up to the head.

Our very own Emma measured in at 9.5”!  Pretty impressive indeed.  Make sure when you measure, you do not tug or pull on the ear to make it longer.  Just make sure there is no slack.  This way we can keep the records accurate and people thousands of years in the future will enjoy our attention to detail!

All of this archival material will be listed in a sub-blog categorgy called:

OFFICIAL ARCHIVE FOR BASSET HOUND EAR LENGTH.

It is not up and running yet.  My website guy has to install it, but here is what the header will look like!

Those of you who have sent in photographic evidence will be listed in this sub-blog shortly.

Some of you have sent in ear lengths but I cannot post them without the photographic evidence.  It is a 2 person job at minimum.  If you are single, have someone take a picture of  you and your hound while you are on a walk or, better yet do it at the vet!  The techs will be happy to help you.

Come on – you want people thousands of years from now to see your hound’s ear measurements in the official archives!  hehehehehe

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Father Like Son Lovers!  OMG!  The apple does not fall far from the tree!  I love that statement.  I wonder who came up with it?  I guess I could ask google.  Google knows it all.  Well, no truer words were ever spoken in the case of measuring Chaps son’s ears!  Here is Colby Chaps!

It all started off innocently enough.

“You want to do what? You woke me up to measure my ears?”

“SAY WHAT?”

“OK, let’s get on with it.  How long are Daddy’s ears?  Hey look!”

“Mine are the exact same length!  That is totally pawsome!  I like this measuring thing!  Let’s see how long I am in general!”

“Yes!  I love showing off my belly!”

As a side note, I cannot believe how much our Colby Chaps looks like our Chaps.  It is just phenomenal.

“OK – how about my snooter?  Measure that Jourdan!  Jourdan is my girl.”

“Ahhhhhhhhh, You know what they say, big snooters – big kisses!  Slurp!”
