Ebay is so funny…SOLD – SOLD – SOLD

April 28th, 2018 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Ebay lovers…Well, maybe not lovers.  It is so expensive to have a shop on ebay and fully use their services.  Anyway, I have had a shop for over a decade.  It is part of my company… Basset Hound Town Enterprises LLC.  I still have inventory from over 2 decades that I need to market and move.  I am finally getting around to it.  This is a current listing from my store on Ebay.

I think I told the residents that I also have shops on Etsy, Facebook, and my own website.  Wow!  Lots of work but you know it’s my passion to help the homeless basset hounds!!!

Oh, and that reminds me…I am starting the application process to have my very own 501(c)3.  Yes, fellow residents…my very own Not For Profit.  It’s a big step but well worth it.  I want those who purchase from me to be able to write it off.  Currently, most of what I make goes to the homeless so I think this is a good move.  I will keep you posted.

More loving “A couch for every hound” later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (has 3 couches), (Chaps and Emma ATB cheering me on laying on rainbow couches…)

Boswell Basset Hound Original Vintage Rare
Final Proof for Artist Evelyn Leavens

Boswell Basset Hound Original Vintage Rare Final Proof for Author and Artist Evelyn Leavens

Evelyn Leavens was my friend for over 2 decades.  Prior to her passing away 5 years ago she donated many items to my basset hound rescue.  I also purchased several treasured items of her art work.  Evelyn was also a mentor to me.  I also wrote a children’s book about my basset hound Lily.

This offering is an item called a final proof for the Author and Artist Evelyn Leavens to review.  At this point all changes and corrections  have been made but final proofs still sent.  Evelyn kept these proofs in her possession since the book was printed in 1958.  Evelyn negotiated for all final proofs that anyone had be sent to her.  She had the vision and forethought to keep these.  Over the years she would pass them out to school children after she read the book.  As she was sorting through her life’s work she found the boxes again.  And so dear reader…she passed them to her biggest basset hound fan – me!!!  All of them show age and some yellowing.

After much thought about display I have come up with a two sided thick acrylic frame that offers both sides of the final proof.  So, as you please you can turn the frame and have double the art work.  It is very light weight so you can even move it from room to room as the mood strikes you.

You may see other offerings of Evelyn’s basset hound artwork online but you will never see her final proofs or for that matter a display in this fashion.  Other offerings are reproductions or pages torn from a book.

All money from the sale of this item will go to my basset hound rescue which I fund through my business, basset hound town enterprises.  This is not a tax deductible sale.

Please look at all of the pictures and ask any questions because…

Share time in bassethoundtown!

August 19th, 2016 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllow Fellow Basset Hound and art work lovers.  I thought I would share this rare and amazing drawing by Evelyn Leavens.  This was a test run for her book, Boswell’s Life of Boswell.  This was not selected by the publisher for the book.  Evelyn sold this original to me many, many years ago and I cherish it.  I also own the copyright!

It’s crazy howl people think everything on the internet is free.  I see it all the time.  Recently, I saw a basset hound rescue use a piece of art on a coffee mug.  I was floored that the artist would allow them to do that and I contacted the rescue and they told me they had no idea where the art work came from they just took it from the internet.  People have to be really careful because the owner of the work can sue.  I informed the rescue who the artist was and I suggested they contact her for permission so they did not get in trouble.  She graciously allowed them to use the design for that set number of mugs and then they would have to pay her in the future.

I donate art work and items all the time to rescues and most artists are willing to do the same but you have the ask.

Here is the picture that the publisher picked to use in the Boswell Book.

I am not sure who owns the copyright to Evelyn’s published images anymore.  The rights have changed hands over the decades.  That is why I never wanted a publishing company to buy the rights to the Lily book.  I want to own my art forever.  I want to be in control of my hard work!

As in this bath scene from the famous Lily Book!  LOL!

I love this image that hangs in my bathroom in poster size.  It also sells as a blank greeting card.  It has been donated on several occasions for basset hound rescue bath days.  It is up to me what I do with it because it is mine and I like it like that!

More keeping my art protected later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB loving that rainbow image;)

Gearing up for the bassethoundtown walking club spring event – and I had to share this Evelyn Leavens drawing!

May 13th, 2015 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset and walking hounds lovers…I had to share this wonderful drawing by the late Evelyn Leavens.  I just adore it.  Evelyn sold me the original years ago.  It reminds me a boy that comes to the walking club event.  I am going to frame a small copy of it as a free gift give away this Sunday.

Daisy Lynn the Great Pyreneeses and deer poop!

September 7th, 2014 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Great Pyreneeses lovers…One Mom we know you are one of both!  So, if you see 2 Great Pyrenees are they Great Pyreneeses?  Whatever…we did and they were majestic!

GreatP

Of course this picture does not do them justice.  Things moved too quickly for me to get a better shot as I was struggling to get myself off the ground the woman warned us that her male was not friendly.  So, we moved off to the left where Daisy Lynn quickly began to roll in deer poop!  GREAT!

Someone was in store for a bath when we got home!

Of course I did not get a picture.  I feared for my IPhones life!

So I offer this…

This is an image that the late Evelyn Leavens sold to me along with the copyright.  I just love it.  I think it will fit perfectly to highlight Daisy Lynn’s Day Trips.

Bassethoundtown.com welcome matt!

November 21st, 2013 - 11:11 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and welcome matt lovers.  I wanted to share!

Before Evelyn Leavens passed away she sold me the copyright to some of her images.  This is one of them!

Welcome!

leavens copyright bht copy

I had to put the copyright thing across it because most images on well read blogs show up in google images and people tend to take them as their own.  Since bassethoundtown is the number one blog on the internet for basset hounds my images are farmed by google everyday.

I love this image.  It is kind of fitting since bassethoundtown is a physical and internet welcome place.

More making everyone and every hound welcome later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB wandering over to visit Evelyn)

Purple Cone Flowers from Evelyn Leavens to Daisy Lynn Rudert

July 26th, 2013 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Purple Cone Flower Lovers…Today I was taking our new young Mayor on a spectacular summer morning walk.  Daisy Lynn stopped to smell around at a front yard garden that I love.

Ppurple Cone4

She usually pulls right past it and I get a fleeting glance at the ever changing beautiful flowers that bloom and glow.

Purple Cone2

So we rested and reflected.

Then it hit me.  I think my buddy Evelyn was one of the bumble bees buzzing the purple cone flowers.

Evelyn used to end some of her e-mails with,

“Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn’t know it so it goes on flying anyway.”

It was really appreciated today!

What is the history/roots of Basset Hound Rescue?

May 8th, 2013 - 3:03 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Basset Hound Rescue Lovers!

I want to pick everyone’s brains about the past. What are the roots/history of basset hound rescue? I have been working with some of the old timers in Rescue, the BHCA, The Bugler, and just anyone else that I can ask. From what I have learned in my research, bassets were fairly rare before the mid-50’s when “The People’s Choice” aired and starred the basset named Cleo. I have heard from several of my sources that this show kind of jump started the basset hound popularity during the late 50s/early 60s.

People's Choice Cleo

Cleo became so popular that a Little Golden Book (Simon and Schuster) was quickly developed and rushed into the hands of the new basset hound lovers…

cleo

I know my friend, Evelyn Leavens, who has recently passed away, adopted Boswell in 1953 from Lyn Mar Acres in NJ because of the popular TV show mentioned above.

Boswell Pedigree

It was a perfect time to write and illustrate her wildly popular children’s book, Boswell’s life of Boswell, (Simon and Schuster) which was number 2 on the New York Times Best Seller List for a brief period of time. I am sure many a kid wanted a basset after pouring over the amazing artwork and fun words.

So, with the combination of these 3 events bassets became more popular and entering more and more families. One thing is for sure, when a dog gets popular on TV and in books it is not always a good thing.

I was thinking that this would be about the same time that demand created a supply.

So, what do you know about the roots of basset hound rescue?

More loving the history of bassets later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB) knowing the answers to every question…

PS – I have the entire People’s Choice TV series on DVD.  I have not watched it yet but I will soon.  I will try to share a few clips with the residents.

New sub-blog for Evelyn Leavens…

May 4th, 2013 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Evelyn Leavens Lovers…I am in the process of adding a new sub-blog called Evelyn Leavens.  This is the design that I created for it.

730x297 evelyn header

Here is where I will share some more details of her life and some more of her art work.  Evelyn, had an extensive collection of Boswell sketches that have never been seen by more than a few people.  I am please to say that she gave me access to all of them.

Evelyn was not a huge fan of looking back on her Boswell years.  It never sat well with her that Boswell could be her only claim to fame.

A few days before she died I had sent Evelyn 2 final Boswell books to sign.  I am a collector.  I have about 30 or more copies.  Oh, but that is for another sub-blog posting…

More Evelyn and Boswell memories later….Love Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB) having the Boswell book read to them…
