Stewie and Mikey are pawsomely cool!

August 21st, 2010 - 3:03 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Stewie and Mikey Lovers.  Well, today we left basset hound town and traveled to Dayton to collect some of our homeless residents, Stewie and Mikey.  They were in the Montgomery Animal Resource Center and it is very nice.

IMG_8809

First things first, I paid their debts so they could be sprung from prison.

2 boys vetting, neutered, micro chipped, and boarded for over a month….150.00.  Priceless

IMG_8811

Heather is the gal who worked relentlessly to get these blue eyed boys out of there!  Thank you Heather!

IMG_8812

Now we are off to collect our Stewie!

IMG_8814

OMD, I about lost it.  As soon as we came to Stewie he did this to show us his neuter surgery scar.  It was like he was saying, “They hurted me!”  I actually heard my Mom gasp at his beauty!

Then it was off to collect our Mikey….

IMG_8817

Man O Man was he itching to get out of his pen. Another handsome blue eyed boy!  I felt like we had just discovered hidden secret treasures…..

IMG_8820

Then, get this…..I was interviewed by Channel 2 in Dayton, OH. Last night when I was talking with Gary Penny of ABC – All Bassets Cherished – he suggested that I contact them so they could report a happy ending to this story.  I jumped all over his suggestion and e-mailed the original reporter.  They were on the phone with us off an on the entire drive up to Dayton making sure they knew when to show up.

IMG_8824

Grandma was a bit nervous hence the blurring…..

IMG_8829

Then we moved outside!

IMG_8832

Stewie gets his close up…..

IMG_8833

Mikey gets his close up…..

The we loaded up in the Basset Hauling Vehicle for our ride home and to wait for our 2AM transport rendezvous!

IMG_8847

The ride home was perfect.  Stewie and Mikey are perfect gentle hounds.  My next blog posting, later today will be some fantastic picture I capture of utter and true joy to be out of the pound.  These boys are going to be the perfect addition to some one’s family.

Please check back later today.  I have to go to bed.  I can barely keep my eyes open.  I just got home from the transport rendezvous and I will have more about that as well.

More pawsomely cool stories later……Love, Cat (Yawn), Chaps and Emma

Wow, this week flew by….

August 20th, 2010 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and flying week lovers.  I guess with all of the hoopla with the blue eyed boys, this week in basset hound town flew by.

The poor Mayor is all worried because I have to go get the homeless residents.  Himz is “making” his worry bed.  Scratching and scratching….

IMG_8177

What he doesn’t know is that the boys will be in the basement for about 8 hours.  His worry bed will need a seat belt.  Talk about a bumpy 8 hours…..

IMG_8486

Howl much you wanna bet his ears get a bit whiter by tomorrow?

More needing seat belts later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emmers….

Fasten your seat belts, it’s going to be a bumpy blog…..

August 19th, 2010 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Bumpy Blog Lovers.  OMD, it has been crazy this past week for the OH blue eyed boys.  At least that is what I call them. Each boy has one blue eye…

Do my dear readers remember the story of the crazy woman who dumped her 4 bassets and 1 blood hound at the the dog park?  I did 2 blogs on the case.

FIRST BLOG POSTING

SECOND BLOG POSTING

Well, here is the update…As some of you may have read, a plea was sent out over the Daily Drool to help 2 of the remaining 5 hounds that were dumped and were still at the pound.  Hum, still at the pound huh?  Sup with that?  So, I jumped on the pound’s PetFinder site and I could not find the hounds.  Interesting.  Round about this time I am getting e-mails about the duo and can I help, blog, or whatever.  I always do my home work so off the bat I e-mailed the pound and asked their contact why they were not on PetFinder.

Come to find out, Stewie and Mikey were both food aggressive.  At this pound and many others if a dog is deemed food aggressive they can be put down without question.  Hum, I did not realize that but I guess it makes sense for some breeds.  But for a basset hound?  Anyway, Stewie was only food aggressive towards other dogs coming to his bowl.  This is our Stewie….

rescue1 126

Chaps has been food aggressive his entire life.  I never feed Chaps and Emma together.  Goodness, she is already blind she does not need to lose an ear!

Mikey was deemed food aggressive to a fake hand.  That cracked me up.  When they put a fake hand into Mikey’s bowl he growled but did not bite the fake hand.  Who puts their hand in a dog’s food bowl?

Anyway, here is our Mikey the fake hand hater!

rescue1 129

Heather is the woman who is their advocate and was given some time to find a rescue that might be better suited to deal with the “food issue”.  Yes, us basset hound owners know all about food issues!

So, as I was contemplating the fate of these blue eyed boys I get a DING!  Incoming e-mail!  It’s from Erica….

“Hey Cat!
Just wanted to send a reminder that if you know of a transport needed to the east coast, I’d be happy to help out!  We will be leaving Cinti the morning of Sunday, August 22 to travel back east. ”

Ha!  Can you believe that?  The boys might be able to land in a rescue up north east!  Dogs from the South always fare better in the North.  In  my entire rescue life I have never sent a hound south.  It just does not happen in my world.  My mind begins to spin…..

If I am going to get them in spot in a Northern Basset Hound Rescue I better learn more about these hounds.  So, I ask Heather at the pound my questions…

Age, neutered, HW status, medical status, all of the biggies that matter for rescues and adoption.

Stewie age 2, Mikey age 3.  Neither neutered.  Neither vetted and the past owner who is now facing criminal charges claims to not remember when they have been to the vet.  Heather tells me that for 75 bucks a piece she can have them vetted and neutered.

Hum…..75 bucks a piece, almost seems like a no brainer.  Heather is also willing to keep them until the 21st.  So, basically at that point the hounds are mine.  GULP

OK, I have over a week to get them a hard to find spot in a coveted basset hound rescue.  I have significantly raised their profile!

Young Good Looking Hounds
Neutered
HEART WORM NEGATIVE
Totally vetted
Perfect Heath Certificate and ready for transport

I check on them everyday and the boys are getting a bit sad as you can imagine.  The days are ticking by and the boys have no takers as of this morning:(

The e-mails are flying and the networkers are tap dancing.  I spent the entire day today working on their case.

Then, DING!  It’s the wonderful Shelly Gordon of ABC (All Bassets Cherished) Rescue in New York State….

It was so hopeful!  GUESS WHAT?  They have a van coming to the town next to mine Sat at 2:00AM.  They are meeting GABR to pickup some homeless hounds!

IS THERE ROOM FOR THE BLUE EYED BOYS?

Stewie grabs a drink of water while he waits…..

rescue1 124

And waits to see if he will find a place at ABC….

rescue1 125

Mikey is also waiting…….

rescue1 118

OK, I am at the door.  Someone open these bars please…….I am ready to blow this pop stand!

Then the ultimate call comes in, from Gary Penny, President of ABC!

THE BLUE EYED BOYS ARE CHERISHED!

Yipeeeeeeeeeeee

rescue1 117

Stewie is totally jazzed!

rescue1 130

Mikey is all like, wait, What?  I am loving me some New York!

rescue1 127

Yes, Mikey we are all loving us some New York!

Grandma and I are schlepping up to Dayton in the morning.  We will collect the blue eyed boys from the shelter and stash them in the basement until the 2:00am transport meeting.  Is there an Ap for that?

hehehehe

Lastly, I did not want to needlessly stress out Basset Hound Town residents so I tried to do all of the heavy lifting and hopefully report good news instead of stressed out news.  It was Emma’s suggestion.  She is the Public Relations Official for BHT!

More ending the bumpy ride later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I am a tattle tail! I told on the Mayor!

August 18th, 2010 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and not tattle tail lovers….

Today the weather was so great that the kids were outside a lot. I think that dog door got a run for it’s money today!

IMG_4616

No humidity and no vial beating oppressive sun shine.  So, being the helicopter Mom I am I was checking on the kids constantly.

I have to be honest, one of the reasons I check so much is because Chaps likes to feast on Grandma’s green onions.

This is Grandma planting her onions earlier this summer….

IMG_6521

Chaps has been obsessed with green onions ever since!

So, I decided to tattle on Chaps and tell Grandma that her Grand dog was back at it and she should go ahead and harvest them RIGHT NOW!

I went out front because I heard her watering our plants and what do I see in my front yard?

Abby Alessandro, of Judy, Bumper and Abby.  Remember, she just had a large tumor removed from her side?  Well Abby was coming back from the vet because she had her stitches removed.  The tumor was benign BTW….Thank Dog!

IMG_8801

I cannot tell you howl happy I was to look out of my front window and see this precious little girl enjoying my front yard.  Ahhhhh, life is good!  I was kissing, and kissing that chop!  What a great way to take a break from work.

But before all of the kissing I had to tell on Chaps.  We all knew he was not noshing on the onions at that point because he was in his worry bed, at the front window, crying and pawing at the window….”Mommy, oh Mommy why are you kissing that strange hound?”

Not only did he endure his Mommy kissing a little girl hound but he got told on!  Grandma dashed to back and pulled her coveted crop!

IMG_8804

All in all a pretty good haul.

More pretty girls and pretty onions later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Made my day:)

August 17th, 2010 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and making your day lovers!  Today Grandma and I made plans to go to AAA to pick up some major travel stuff.  OMD – I am sure many of you know that if you are a member of AAA you can go in and get books, maps, and advise about any trip you are taking.  We left with 6 books and about 12 maps regarding VA and the Blue Ridge Parkway.  As we were talking to the travel expert I heard a little girl, outside of the building screaming…”It’s the basset lady, the basset lady, the basset lady!”

The little girl and her Mom saw the Basset Hauling Vehicle – Howl can you miss it?

img_2217

img_2225

The little girl was adorable.  She had on a purple bathing suit complete with a purple cast!  Turns out she fell off the monkey bars.  Also, turns out Chaps and I had done a Lily book reading at her school!

Oh the fame…….

More loving being called the Basset Lady later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Meet the newest HoPper – Chloe!

August 16th, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and newest HoPper lovers!  Chloe is a very tiny, skinny girl but the sweetest little bug, ever!  I posted her story as a note on House of Puddle’s Facebook page, which I believe you should be able to access even if you don’t have a Facebook account

Look at how skinny she is.
image
You can see how petite she is next to Buttermilk, even though she’s lying down.
image
This poor girl lived outside on a chain.  Her left hind leg was broken some time in the past and never fixed so she can’t walk on it.  But she does use it a little for support when she goes to potty and to help her up the step to the porch.  She can get in and out the doggie door OK, with a little struggle at times.  But she doesn’t let that bad leg slow her down much.  She follows me around the house and in the yard, even tries to run with the other hounds.
She came with a $1,400 vet bill that BROOD paid for Chloe’s spay, hernia repair, leg x-ray, HW test, dental and medications.  I just made a personal donation to BROOD to help pay for it, via Jodye & Peter Roebuck’s Firstgiving page (Peter transported Chloe to HOP).  If you can, please make a small donation to BROOD to help pay this huge vet bill.

Pretty Pink Patty:) A frosty beverage!

August 15th, 2010 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Pretty Pink Patty Lovers!  Well, I know a lot of residents are one of those!  For those of you that might not know what a Pretty Pink Patty is, it is Emma’s belly when it is in near pristine condition.  Kind of like this!

Emmasummerbelly

Well, every morning when Julian wakes up we lounge in the dog bed and talk about our dreams.  Emma always goes Patty up and Chaps nibbles on the pillows.  It is a magical time.  So, this morning I was calling Emma, Shimlette.  Which turned into Shimlette Gimlet.  We laughed and I told Julian that a Gimlet is a drink.  He suggested that we name a drink after her.  The Shimlette Gimlet!  Well, I told him that we needed a drink that did not have an alcohol meaning and he suggested the PINK PATTY!  So the Shimlette Gimlet has Vodka and the Pretty Pink Patty is without the hard stuff.  Keep in mind all of this took place in the dog bed at 7:00am!

This is what I love about us.  When we get an idea, we follow through.  We designed the drink, discussed the recipe, and made it happen!

First off, you must get in your car and go to the Hawaiian Shaved Ice Stand.

HSISFTT

You rush home with 2 large shaved ices.  We made sure Emma was supervising!  After all, it is named after her Pretty Pink Patty!

IMG_8756

Then you do the set up! This is Julian rimming the frosted mugs in lemon.  Then he squeezed the lemon into the bottom of the mug.

IMG_8761

Now we add the Raspberry Lemonade….Notice howl the color matches the original Pretty Pink Patty!

IMG_8765

Then you add the Pomegranate Juice.
The parts are about 3 parts Raspberry Lemonade to 1 part Pom Juice.

IMG_8767

OMD!  This concoction is as sweet as the PATTY!

We toasted our new drink!

IMG_8772

Grandma loved it!

IMG_8771

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh,,,,,I love early morning conversations and making dreams come true while in the dog bed!  Emma is so inspirational!

IMG_8774

We miss you Julian…….

Did you know that Basset Hound Town has its own Fisherman’s Wharf?

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Fisherman’s Warf Lovers!  Ah, who does not see the resemblance between seals and basset hounds?  Look, seals even go belly up!

Staycation!

August 14th, 2010 - 12:12 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Staycation Lovers!  Who does not love a good Staycation?  We had a lot of fun today.  Julian is still over and we had planned to go to Coney Island amusement park today. Howl ever, the heat index was supposed to top 110 and we decided to change our plans and not suffer from dehydration.  We opted for a film and ice cream instead.  We went to one of our traditional favorites, the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal.  We were blessed to see the OmniMax Film. Mysteries of the Great Lakes….

It was so cool in so many meanings of the word!

Oh, if you have an OmniMax Theater you must see this.  I was weeping like a baby.  I am kind of a weeper in movies anyway, but this one will uplift you beyond belief!

Then, we cooled off further with a rainbow sherbet cone!  OH MY DOG, it was so good it gave me a brain freeze!  No 110 heat index for us!

IMG_8716

Then we did the museum and had fun, but no trip is fun without the GIFT SHOP!  LOL!

So, we meandered through the high priced items and I asked Julian, “Why are there never any basset hounds carved out of the sparkly gold stone?”  I love me some gold stone!  Here is Julian standing next to the case of various animals carved out of various stones.

IMG_8727

Kind of miffed I opened the drawer beneath the display….

IMG_8689

What? I felt faint!

IMG_8733

Could it be?  YES!  A basset houndish goldstone gem!  I know, it might be questionable, but I grabbed it like it was a chunk of gold in a mining pan! It is about the size of half of your thumb.

IMG_8728

The front view is a bit odd, but I can totally see it!  I saw it so much Grandma bought it for me!  hehehe

IMG_8736

She also bought Julian a piece of AZ sandstone! Gotta love Grandmas!  (no picture but it is totally pawsome)!

I also love cool days in the museum!

7th Grade here we come!

August 13th, 2010 - 10:10 am KY Time

Hollow Fellow Basset Hound and 7th Grade Lovers!  Well, we are sure one of those in BHT!  Yesterday Grandma and I had a welcome to 7th grade party for our boy Julian!  First off we took him to his check in day.  We filtered through a series of events like, school picture!

IMG_8635

The we did eye examination, pick up school atheletic wear, booster table, school supplies, and English reading novels.  One was the Princess Bride!

Then we went to his locker and stocked it up!

IMG_8650

I was checking out the other kids near him.  I saw a cute girl!  I remember, I was in 7th grade once, 100 years ago!

Then it was home for a pizza party! After we ate Emma actually crawled into Julian’s lap for a fantastic movie!

HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY!

She hitchhiked through 2 hours of dreams and never moved….
