Homer has gone to the bridge……….

April 27th, 2009 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Homer Lovers: Oh I know there are many of those in Basset Hound Town. We loved our Homer. The poor boy that was dumped at a damp and dank KY high kill shelter on Christmas Eve, 2008.

Well Homer found his angel in Joni Brooks and she in true angel fashion sent him to the bridge today. Homer was suffering from bladder cancer and his old body was ready to go.

This is a picture I took of Homer, just sprung from the pound

Homer had the best 4 months of his life when he met Joni. She was his Christmas angel and all of us helped him spend some quality time with her before his passing.

Homer went to the bridge knowing he was loved.

Please light a candle tonight in his honor. Here is a blog posting with a movie I did for Homer the day I picked him up. You might enjoy watching it again in his memory.

HOMER THE MOVIE……

GOD SPEED HOMER……….God speed dear soul……

Joni, This is never easy, you can have them for days, months, and years, and the hurt is alwys the same–heart breaking. Tonight the sky will be brighter because a new star is in the night sky. One so bright because Homer had special people tell him all was not lost and he was not trash to be put out at the curb, but a sweet old soul to be loved and loved by many, but the biggest love was from Joni who took him kissed him on his head and told him he had a family that would see him through to the end and that is just what you did Joni. We have Homers candle burning bright here at Camp Toast and I am sure Melba Toast and Lily and Chloe and Natalie and all the others that have gone on before met Homer at the Bridge and are helping him pick out the just right fluffy cloud to watch over his one and only mama–Joni. Our tears are with you tonight.
Cat with out you all this would have never happened. So thank you and tonight just look up to see this new light in the sky shining ever so bright.

Sandy of Camp Toast – what a beautiful tribute. Your words will soothe Joni, I am sure. I know they did that for me. Our Homer came out of prison, proud and strong for his 4 months to be loved and cared for. So many loved him. I get comments almost every day on his YouTube video from around the world. His story touched so many. He was a poor boy lifted up by the love of many. Now he is lifted up to the bridge with all of us who will never forget him.

    ((((((HOMER and JONI)))))))

    We love you both……

I am so, so saddened by the news that Homer has made his journey to the Bridge. I remember his story very well and cheered when he was sprung–it was a wonderful day! Thank you, Cat! And Joni gave Homer the gift of her love–he was truly blessed. Now gentle St. Francis has him in his arms and–I have no doubt–he will carry him safely across the Bridge. Thank you, Joni, for giving Homer a loving, nurturing home these last few months! Your sweet boy will never be far away from you because he’s ensconced in your heart, forever and always.

Mary, Harley, Biggs and Leo–and the kitties, too

We are so sad to hear of Homer’s loss; but, it consoles both of us that the last part of Homer’s life was in such a loving caring home.

We were glad to be able to help Homer when he was getting adopted.
