Chaps’ burning question is answered!

July 31st, 2007 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and air conditioning lovers: Chaps had a question this morning, on his Wisenheimer Wisdom Stage. It was, “who invented air-conditioning?” Well here is the answer. Willis Haviland Carrier.

In 1902, only one year after Willis Haviland Carrier graduated from Cornell University with a Masters in Engineering, the first air (temperature and humidity) conditioning was in operation, making one Brooklyn printing plant owner very happy. Fluctuations in heat and humidity in his plant had caused the dimensions of the printing paper to keep altering slightly, enough to ensure a misalignment of the colored inks. The new air conditioning machine created a stable environment and aligned four-color printing became possible. All thanks to the new employee at the Buffalo Forge Company, who started on a salary of only $10.00 per week.

In 1928, Willis Haviland Carrier developed the first residential ‘Weathermaker’, an air conditioner for private home use. The Great Depression and then WW2 slowed the non-industrial use of air conditioning. After the war, consumer sales started to grow again. The rest is history, cool and comfortable history.

Willis Haviland Carrier did not invent the very first system to cool an interior structure, however, his system was the first truly successful and safe one that started the science of modern air conditioning.

Thank you Willis: You make the Dogs Days bearable! Slurp. More Later…Cat, Chaps and Emma

Lily’s Basset Bucks Bonanza!!!

July 30th, 2007 - 3:03 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Lily’s Basset Buck Lovers! Wow, it was a Basset Buck Bonanza today at the post office! I received 5 envelopes for Lily’s Basset Bucks. I also have one from a few days ago. Anyway, I am not going to open them yet. I am going to open them tomorrow night when I have time to make a Vlog and a splash!

Also, if you are a 501(c)(3) basset hound rescue you can sign up to receive Lily’s Basset Bucks on 6-15-08, my 51st birthday. Amazingly, only 10 rescues have signed up! I bet the 10 that did are totally jazzed. Well, approved basset rescues only have 16 more days to sign up and then I am closing Lily’s benevolent offer.

Are you just hearing about Lily’s Basset Bucks? If so watch my Vlog and find out all of the details!

The Mayor officially announces the DOG DAYS OF SUMMER!

July 30th, 2007 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Sirius Lovers:

The dog stars with the pup stars

Your Mayor, Chaps Rudert,

has officially announced that the Dog Days of Summer are here! They say every dog has it’s day, just like Lily, but this time of year, the dogs have more than just one single day. These are the dog days of summer — the end of July to mid August. This is because, Sirius, the Dog Star, rises and sets with the sun this time of year. Because Sirius is so bright, the ancients thought the Dog Star actually affected the weather this time of year….usually the hottest, stickiest, laziest days of summer. It’s the time of year when we all feel so dog-gone lazy from the heat, and wish we had our dog’s life! Tehehehehehehe, (Sirius-ly)

Do you have a Lily Book?

July 29th, 2007 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow hound and Lily book lovers: I have a favor to ask you. Do you have a copy of:

Lily, a Basset Hound’s Tail of Love

If so, would you be willing to comment on my book? I am getting ready to send out my national media packages. I will be sending out approximately 500 packages to different media outlets across the nation. Enclosed in these packages will be a copy of the book, a press release, a DVD of my TV interview, press clippings, a list of all basset hound rescues, a blurb about the Basset Hound Club of America, and your comments. I have received many comments and I will personally e-mail those who commented to ask for approval, but a few more can’t hurt!!! I have been saving up for this mailing and working like a dog, Tehehehehehe, to make this happen. I figured this would be a great way to get the list of basset hound rescues in front of alot of press folks. Everyone can count on me, if I get tapped to speak on behalf of Lily, I will speak on behalf of our breed with knowledge and joy. OK, they will probably just tap me if I bring the Mayor! (He only goes first class, I will be in steerage)! Thank you so much for any comments you have.

Blue Bonnet Beauties

July 26th, 2007 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Blue Bonnet Lovers: I received these pictures from a dear friend of mine who lives in Texas. Her name is Audra and she has Chaps’ son, Colby Chaps. These pictures are of her daughter and her other girl basset named Abby. Audra’s Mom found Abby as a stray puppy. She was wondering in an industrial area. Look at her now in a field of blue bonnets. It just is so sweet.

This was Colby Chaps’ blue bonnet picture last year…..
