The bonded pair have names
Howllo Fellow Hound and Old Hound Lovers: I am sure many of you already know most of this from other boards but the Sr. Bonded pair my Mom and I picked up from the Campbell County Animal Shelter have names. Marilyn from the HOP has named them Rudolph and Hermey. (The misfit elf) Pictures coming very soon, I just have to load them.
I have to congratulate Chris Dowd for her wonderful spirit. Chris e-mailed me minutes after I posted the previous blog about helping these kids. Here is her e-mail.
Message from Chris:
Hi Cathy!
I read your blog about the 2 seniors in the
Campbell Shelter. I
emailed Susan at Bluegrass to let her know I will
help out with the
boarding/vet bills if we can find a place for
these guys. I am in
tears that they would be rescued from an abusive
situation only to
face the death penalty.
Please let me know what more I can do to help.
Chris
End of e-mail
This e-mail bought the Sr. Boys more time and they were sprung the next day. Chris, I cannot thank you enough for that e-mail. My eyes were burning so hot I could hardly read it. You touched so many souls. These boys are now on an unbelievable journey due to your kindness and hasty decision making.
We have started a request for drivers, hopefully to start on 12-8-07, but we are still in the beginning stages. Please help us if you are in the path from Northern KY to Fredricksburg Maryland, ending at the HOP.
I am waiting for the route and will post it ASAP. Please consider driving to a town we are coming through to pick up the boys for the next leg.
These boys need Marilyn really bad. She has to start the magic she works right away.
Unfortunately, I had some Holiday plans last night and today which is severely hampering my blogging performance and it is killing me.
I also want to go up to the vet and see the boys today so that will take a bit of time and it is an extra treat for all of us.
I have some video of the boys and also some more pictures that I hope to work on during the day.
Please check back often because I will be updating often.
I will tell the boys to hang in there a few more days until us humans get their ride in place.
Please contact anyone and everyone you know that could potentially help up. These boys deserve it.

UPDATE! good news! Time running out for Sr. bonded boys in KY!
UPDATE – UPDATE – UPDATE!
Sr. Bonded Boys get new lease on life! Marilyn at the HOP has opened her heart and her doors to the boys. I will be picking them up first thing in the morning. I will be waiting in the parking lot prior to anyone getting to work. I will transport the boys to my vet for boarding and very good care. They will not be there long because we will all work on a transport to get the boys to their new wonderful home. So, stay posted and see if you can pick up a leg for us. These guys need to start their new life and Marilyn needs her holiday hounds!
I am just so thrilled beyond belief.
I wonder what she will name them?

Hellow Fellow Hound and Sr. Bonded Boy Basset Hound Lovers:
Today I received a phone call from the Campbell County Animal Shelter about two bonded, senior, basset boys, they are the first two on the list (overweight and not neutered), that were picked up from an abuse situation. I am still trying to find out what that is all about, but the volunteer at the shelter said they were good friendly boys. One is 10 and the other is 12. The shelter director wants to euthanize them tomorrow unless we can find them a place.
I cannot take them in. Both Chaps and Emma were sick after my last foster and Chaps attacks male dogs. Plus, I am out of town right now.
I can have them moved to my vet’s kennel, but I just cannot afford it. I have contacted Bluegrass and Ohio. Eva is full and cannot take any more dogs. Susan of Bluegrass is networking this as well.
My vet would charge 70.00 the first day for both. That would include isolation fees, food and fecal examinations. The charge every day there after would be 47.00 for both. However, if they have fleas or need anything else the cost goes up! I have no money. So any suggestions?
Well, I better get on the horn and see what else I can come up with. Please pass this to any rescues you think can help.
The Shelters phone number is 1-859-635-2819. Another contact is Kathy at 1-859-341-0359

Elvis Smith – departs for the rainbow bridge
ELVIS SMITH 6-19-91 – 11-24-07
Howllo Fellow Hound and Sr. Hound Lovers: This Thanksgiving most of us celebrated good food and family fun.
Devon and Todd Smith had planned on doing the same, but instead they suffered the loss of their dear, dear Sr. Hound Elvis. Devon and Todd had family by their side when Elvis suffered a stoke.
Elvis was Devon’s first basset and she had him since he was a pup. Elvis became famous via this picture. That is Elvis on the left, the distinguished black coated gentleman. The word gentleman fits him to a tee, he actually defined the word. Devon states, “He was the most stubborn dog I ever knew, but also the biggest lover.”
Elvis suffered a stroke on Thanksgiving Day and Devon and Todd were by his side every paw step of the way. His rainbow bridge trip on 11-24-07 was guided by his surrounding humans and canines that loved him.
**************************************************
Elvis is survived by his Mom and Dad, CoCo, Cha Cha, and Beauty Smith.
CoCo and Cha Cha
Devon with Beauty
Rest in PEACE sweet boy.
You were a true champion of Sr. Hounds just like your Mom and Dad, Devon and Todd.
You will never be forgotten as long as I live.
Your memory will live on and on in the Sr. Fund Raising Project that your Mommy is working on.
What a great way to remember a special hound. We love you Elvis
You are a Champion!

Sick of your family yet? Just kidding ;)
Howllo Fellow Hound and Dog Show lovers: OK, the day has just started, but many of us are already looking for something to do! What is better than gathering around the tube and watching
It is on 12:00 noon, so in one hour the show starts KY time. They must re-broadcast it for the different time zones because it is the most widely viewed dog show in America.
So, grab your favorite hounds and sink into the couch for 2 hours of family fun.
Chaps in his hey day!
