Board waddlers! Check this out!

April 24th, 2008 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound Lovers: I am now your board waddle tourist guide! This is another attraction not to be missed. It is a national historic landmark just 13 minutes from Ocean City. (directions below)
She is called the eighth wonder of the world, (Chaps would beg to differ), and her name is Lucy. She is the world’s largest wooden sculpture standing 65 feet tall. She is very majestic and one of those “must see it to believe it” destinations.

My Mom and made the journey and it was well worth the photo op. Unfortunately, I could not find the pictures. I’m still looking. Anyway, charge up those cameras, brush the hounds and send me your photos!

Approximate travel time from Ocean City, 13 minutes according to mapquest.

Tri State Basset Hound Rescue Rules this weekend!

April 24th, 2008 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Tri State Basset Hound Rescue Lovers!

You have to check out this link! It will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know! Folks, this is bassetabulous!

BOARDWADDLE LINK

The link has a lot of area stuff on it. I just did a copy and paste for the Tri State stuff.

This event is not to be missed this weekend 4/25-26-27/08.

BoardWaddle TEN!!!
Our TENTH Anniversary!!
This April 25/26 will be the 10th Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue BoardWaddle. Ohmidawg, how did that happen? Where did the BoardWaddle start? It occurs to me that folks might not all know.

Back in 1998, Rich and Dawn and feyfey went to the big Michigan Basset Rescue Waddle. It was huge, it was fun, it raised moolah for the poor hounds of Michigan. Gramma Jo Smith, who created the waddle suggested Tri-State have one. They thought she was crazy.

The next year they were talked into fostering a little deaf basset. Whenever the slaves spoke to “Indie” or stomped their feet, he said, “WOO.” They took that as being told his correct name. The slaves hugely, flamingly flunked foster. To make up for having been so bad they asked Tri-State’s founder and president, Barbara Wicklund, if they could try and organize a waddle. Barbara took a little convincing, but the coffers were in really bad shape and there was a lot owed on kennel and veterinary bills.

The City of Ocean City was amazing and allowed the houndies to participate in the Doo Dah Pawrade and use their fields. The slaves charged the expenses to their credit cards and hoped there would be enough money to pay them and set a goal of raising $5,000 for the hounds.

April 17, 1999, brought 240 happy hounds waddling in the Ocean City Doo Dah parade to help their homeless friends! There was a dinner at the Homestead the night before, games and prizes for the top three! It is the first time that the slaves recall meeting Sandy Gera and Bob Arnold who won the pledge contest with over $700! Pat Dill and Carol Sharp were second, Karen Dimsey was third and my breeder slaves Hank and Sharon Scully were fourth! Caruso made a grand appearance and got his picture in the New York times with wannabe basset Happy!

Gramma Jo Smith blessed the event by coming from Michigan.
(If she laughed at Dawn and Rich, she was too pawlite to say so.) BoardWaddle 1999 netted $15,000!

Since then there have been 8 successful BoardWaddles! Thousands and thousands of bassets have waddled from near and far! Humans or houndies have come from 35 states, Canada and Europe. Each has contributed something to benefit the houndies! A unique and special shirt has become an annual tradition. BoardWaddle shirts have been sent all over the world! The weekend has grown to include the ever competitive Olympics and the fabulous pawction dinner! Attendance has more than doubled. There has been national and network television coverage and the slaves have been the recipients of the 2006 Ocean City Golden Hot Dog Award!

In 2007 Gramma Jo returned and was surprised with a plaque! Most importantly, tens of thousands of dollars have been raised to help the hounds.

None of this would have happened without our volunteers! We are incredibly grateful for all those who have volunteered. The weekend could not happen without the help of dedicated folks who commit their time. Individuals come from far and wide to work their paws to the bone. Please let the humans know if you would like to join the Tri-State Basset Rescue BoardWaddle team!

Got a great pawction item? Tell them that, too!
boardwaddle@tristatebassets.org Volunteer during the year? Love to have you.

Our surprising first year pledge winners have become the President and Vice- President of Tri-State! Write them at adopt@tristatebassets.org !

Each year has become a gathering of old and new friends. We thank everybody for coming back year after year and look forward to welcoming first timewaddlers. In celebration of our 10th Anniversary the slaves would appreciate waddlers sending their favorite BoardWaddle memory. Know that they plan to share as many as possible of them publicly, so ya re giving them permission to do that. 50 words or less, please send them to Cakie at Boardwaddle@tristatebassets.org

Have any of you houndies been to all NINE prior BoardWaddles and looking forward to number TEN? Please make sure to tell me your story!

The first Grand Marshall was selected as she was the then web site poster hound. Since then it is our highest honor offered to those houndies who have compelled their human to work very hard in gathering pledges and serving the BoardWaddling hounds. Brie Sherwin is reigning Grand Marshall 2007.

This year’s Grand Marshall is the youngest Grand Marshall ever! She brings not only her own too cute, hardworking paws, but an entire rescue family! Because the lovely young pupster who will serve as Grand Marshall 2008 was born as a Tri-State Basset! Please join me in recognizing Grand Marshall 2B Thelma Lou Dickson-Foth

The 2008 Grand Marshall will waddle in the pawprints of some very hard
working houndies! It has been a wonderful decade of hounds helping hounds and having a darn good time doing it! PACKETS ARE SENT IN MARCH.

If you are not already on our mailing list, please send me, Cakie, your name and snail address.boardwaddle@tristatebassets.org

Angelika and Ms. Brandy are Golden HOP heros!

April 24th, 2008 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Gold Rush lovers! This donation is just in from fellow miners, Angelika and Ms. Brandy. Aunt Angelika sent me old gold that had been in her jewelry box for a long time. Some of it was over 20 years old! (broken chains and other items)

We love Angelika and Brandy for that. As I always do, I took a picture of their donation prior to going to the jewelry store. A few of the chains that make the underline were not gold. However, they were the very smallest of their donation.

The grand total, as reflected in the check Ft. Thomas Jewelers wrote me is 74.40!

IMG_4459.jpg

I will over to the Firstgiving page and make the donation in our sweet Angelika and Brandy’s names!

IMG_4463.jpg

As you can see, I blur the signature and the checking account number. I would not want anyone devious on my blog to see that. I take every precaution to guard all of my vendors, readers, and site visitors.

More Gold Updates Later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. I had 2 packages today in my PO Box! Slurp! Stay tuned and please send me your old gold. The HOP hounds in their golden years need it very much!

You have got to be kidding me!

April 23rd, 2008 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Art lovers:

OK, I was having fun searching the net for a story I saw on TV at lunch about a glittering tiara featuring a 101 carat diamond estimated to sell for as much as $7.5 million when it is auctioned in Hong Kong next month.

As many of you know I have been collecting gold and stones for House of Puddles and I found it interesting. I thought that maybe someone out in cyber space could buy it for Marilyn because she is a Queen! Here is the picture.

101_carat_diamond.jpg

The report states, “It’s a tiara fit for a princess, but some worry jewellery sales may slow down in coming months due to a weakening global economy.”

That’s the part that cracked me up. “some worry”! LOL!

Anyway, I went to Sothebys website to try and find a better picture of it and that is when I ran across this.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME? CLICK THE PICTURE AND HAVE YOURSELF A LAUGH!

Who would buy these things? It just boggles my mind. I am glad that I don’t understand.

Grandma and Grandpa give Emma a toy for her birthday!

April 22nd, 2008 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and toy giving lovers:

Emma loves toys, just like the next hound, but unlike the next hound she is blind, (keep reading). She got such a kick out of this toy. She played with it for hours. Here is a small video of her getting her beloved-ed present yesterday on her birthday.

Well, this morning, after breakfast, she trotted into the living room and found that toy out of about 30 toys scattered about. She brought it to me and squeaked it, then trotted to her bed. She was so thrilled with herself. I made over her like crazy. It is the little things like this that matter so much to a blind hound. This was such a huge accomplishment for her and I could tell she was so proud of herself. I was just beaming for her. Just beaming.

More accomplishments and love later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Gold Fever! Gold Fever! Gold Fever!

April 22nd, 2008 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Gold Fever Lovers: Well the streets are really paved with gold in bassethoundtown. Yesterday we received a package from Cathy in New York that just blew our minds!

I rushed right down to the jewelry store last night and cashed it in. Guess what? It was worth 128.80!

IMG_4440.jpg

As you can see the check is made out for 149.80.

IMG_4450.jpg

I had another package of items with me from Marie in KS. I wound up just scraping one of her items for 21.00!

IMG_4337.JPG

The rest are rings that I really think, as well as my jeweler, are too nice to scrap. I forgot to get the sizes, so I am going to do that and then put them in the
HOP boutique on on website
. I will announce that as soon as I get them up. They are very pretty and unique. My jeweler thinks they should go for 50.00 a piece. I cannot wait to show them to you.
