Ice, Ice, Baby

January 27th, 2009 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Ice Storm Haters: Well, it ice raining on top of 6” of snow. Every one was home from work and school today for the most part. Tomorrow is going to be even worse. Poor kids. They hate the cold stuff and so does Mommy.

I was talking (aka complaining) to Grandma on the phone this morning about shoveling snow and the door bell rang! It was a neighborhood kid wanting 5.00 to shovel the front walk. OMG! I love that kid so much I gave him 10.00! I heard him yelling to his brother down the street that he was going to go to Subway today! The money was burning so hot in his pocket that it could have melted the dang snow! LOL It was kind of a bribe to get him to come back tomorrow.

See that baby gate next to Chaps. I had to close it after this picture because of the ice that is coating the back steps. I can’t have the big guy breaking a hip. You can see Emma in the background peeking out the dog door. She barely makes it out to do her business. Sometimes her tail is still inside. Now that is a close call!!!!!!!!!!!

When it comes to cooking, I’m a one trick pony!

January 26th, 2009 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and favorite dish lovers. OK, maybe I am better than what I give myself credit for, but I have a very small repertoire when it comes to cooking. I had to show you this dish that I rarely make. Grandpa wanted a KY treat after being in the hospital and I gladly obliged.

It is called a Kentucky Hot Brown. It was invented by the chiefs at the world famous Brown Hotel back in 1923. It is a pretty famous dish in these here parts. Bobby Flay even did a Throw Down with the Brown Hotel. Bobby lost! LOL

My version is a bit more substantive. I use English Muffins so the cheese sauce soaks into the nooks and crannies.

If you do not have real turkey you can substitute rotisserie chicken from your grocery store deli. I dice the white meat and sauteed it in butter and red onion.

I add broccoli spears, drained of all water.

I spend the most amount of time on my cheese sauce. It has 7 different cheeses and I could have easily added 3 more. I am a cheese freak.

Add sliced cherry tomatoes to the top and bake at 350 for an hour or until golden brown. You could probably do this in a larger casserole dish for a family. Don’t forget the cookie sheet.

img_9218

Cook bacon to almost crisp and add on top during the last 15 minute of cooking.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh………..Comfort food!

img_9225

Look how cute. These little cast iron skillets come with a handle holder so you can dig right in!

img_9226

What could be better than a KY Hot Brown delivered on a basset hound tray?

I guess if I must be a one trick pony, this is the trick! Slurp!

UPDATE! SOLD! Emma proudly re-gifts one of her holiday items!

January 24th, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

UPDATE!!!! SOLD

EMMA’S ITEM SELLS IN LESS

THAN 24 HOURS!

THANKS TO OUR FRIEND.

I THINK IT IS A GIFT SO I DON’T

WANT TO TELL HER NAME. IS IT

OK FRIEND?

Howllo Fellow Hound and Re-Gifting Lovers: Come on! We all do it and Emma is proud of it. Her dear friend Jackie (my co-worker who alerted me to the photo contest that Chaps is in), and her two sweet daughters Trista and Maddie, sent Emma this fancy, fancy collar for Christmas.

img_9197

Well, Emma and I just love it, but we both know that she cannot wear a collar like this. She is so allergic to any material that is not 100% cotton. So, Emma is going to donate it to House of Puddles Boutique in honor of Jackie, Maddie and Trista. How generous is she? I am so proud of her. She does not have a bad bone in her body!

img_9187

My Mom and I did a photo shoot today so Emma could always remember this beautiful gift. Jackie, I hope you are proud of our Emma. Please tell Maddie and Trista for us.

At the end of the photo shoot Chaps was just besides himself with jealousy. Grandma looked down at him and said, “Chaps, this is too feminine for you”!

img_9201

But Mommy said that Chaps is really in touch with his feminine side so Grandma put it on him for one last photo!

img_9214

Boy was Grandma glad! What a pretty boy indeed!

Water as a bonding experience!

January 24th, 2009 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Drinking Water Lovers : There is absolutely no way on this planet that Chaps and Emma could ever eat out of the same bowl. However, anytime one of them goes to the water bowl the other one follows. I wonder what the reason is? Is it fun?

img_9170

Grandma always says it sounds like 2 horses at the trough. I have a mini bucket in the hall that they even drink out of together. They can barely fit their tongues in at the same time, but they still do it. Odd, or is it a bonding thing?

Just an observation.

Young 3 month old Emma…They grow up so fast!

January 23rd, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound And Knowing They Grow Up So Fast Lovers: This is a picture I took of our Emma the day after I brought her home. What a young pup she was, only 3 months old.

She was a wild pup. Flying through the air. I remember I called her my flying white tiger with razor blade teeth!

emma-3months1

Grandma had about 5 band aides on each arm from Emma’s loving ways!

I had a kennel for her in the living room where Chaps and I slept. I remember telling Grandma, “This kennel is worth a thousand dollars to me!” Emma would leap over your head and grab your glasses and any hair thing right off of our head. She was (and still is) wild!

emmacrate

OMG, Emma wore me plum out! Chaps was one happy guy when Mommy tucked her in for the night. She is so smart that the kennel only lasted about 2 weeks.

I transported her from BoBac Bassets in TX to KY in this kennel. Can you believe how cute she was?

She tripped over her ears and just turned our world up side down. Our Emma was the definition of puppy!

More real moments later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and they grow up so fast lovers, Emma!

P.S. When I picked Grandpa up from the Hospital yesterday, I heard him bragging about Emma to the nurse. He was telling the nurse how Emma is blind. He said that she is the smartest hound ever. The nurse was so interested and kept talking about Emma. It really made the check out easier. (((((((Emma)))))))))

P.P.S. on a sad note………..Mommy misses those eyes. It’s only natural.

I know my dear readers know what I mean. I feel it every time I look into Chaps’s eyes. My goodness. Who would not want their hound to see?

img_7906

Who is the pretty girl? Emmers!

More seeing with your nose later. Sniff, sniff! Is that Chappers? LOL

Our Emma!

Grandpa came home last night!

January 23rd, 2009 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Grandpa Lovers: I am pleased to report that Grandpa came home last night after waiting close to 50 hours for an MRI of his head.

I thought they they were going to have to admit both my Mom and I with anxiety attacks. Come on, it does not take 50 hours to schedule an MRI.

Grandpa insisted we drive through McDonald for the kids. He had a short visit with the kids (it does not take that long to eat a small fry) and went to bed. He is doing much better and so is Chaps. I am also please to report that the Mayor’s stomach is back to normal.

When the Mayor is really content he lays piles of his toys and nibbles on his favorites. That’s when you know all is well in his world.

Nibble little boy nibble!

More worlds being right later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Excuse me, can you scoot over?

January 22nd, 2009 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and scooting over lovers! It’s just so sad that Chaps and Emma have such a tiny bed.

I worry…….

January 21st, 2009 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Boswell Lovers! Have you heard of the book
Boswell’s Life of Boswell? OMG – It was written by my friend, Evelyn Leavens back in the 1950s. She really hit the nail on the head when she drew this picture of Boswell.

boswelliworry

In the book, this page says, “I worry”.

Boswell looks just like Chaps, (the worry wart). I also wanted to let my dear readers know that Ms. Leavens is doing fine. Her and I are very much in touch. She is my mentor and dear friend.

More about Ms. Leavens and Boswell later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Poor Grandpa

January 21st, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Grandpa lovers: Well, they did not release Grandpa today. I told Chaps and Emma, chins up and lets look forward to tomorrow.

So far so good with the Mayor. I have seen no signs of hurl.

I think I told my dear readers that I gave Chaps the middle name of Wayne, the same middle name that Grandpa has. This is them the day after I brought Chaps home back in 2005.

untitled-17_2

OMG – they were the talk of the town on their walks. Cutest thing ever.

More updates later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
