Press Release FAA Certifies Santa’s NextGen-Equipped Sleigh for Christmas Eve

December 20th, 2010 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and immediate release lovers….

For Immediate Release to the Mayor of Bassethoundtown who is also one of Santa’s helpers:

December 20, 2010
Contact: FAA Press Office
Phone: 202-267-3883

WASHINGTON Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety inspectors at the North Pole certified Santa One, the reindeer-powered sleigh piloted by Santa Claus, for its Christmas Eve round-the-world delivery mission.
Santa One, led by Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, is outfitted with new satellite-based NextGen technology, which will allow Santa to deliver more toys to more children and animals with improved safety and efficiency.

“Children and animals around the world will get their gifts on time, regardless of the weather, thanks to NextGen,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. “We’re proud to say NextGen is bringing Santa Claus to town.”

Rudolph’s red nose has been outfitted with avionics that will broadcast Santa One’s position via satellites to air traffic controllers around the world with improved accuracy, integrity and reliability.

“Santa’s cockpit display will help improve his situational awareness by showing him and his reindeer flight crew their precise location in relation to other aircraft, bad weather and terrain,” said FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt. “NextGen will help make this an extra-safe Christmas Eve.”

The sleigh’s onboard systems have been upgraded with state-of-the-art, NextGen technology that will allow Santa One to maintain cruising altitude for as long as possible before making a continuous descent into cities and towns around the world. While maneuvering on rooftops, an advanced, onboard runway safety system will help reduce the risk of incursions between the sleigh and chimneys.
Santa’s reindeer-powered sleigh is already energy-efficient, but the NextGen technologies will further reduce Santa One’s carbon hoofprint. The shorter, faster routings means that Rudolph and the other reindeer will consume less hay, resulting in fewer greenhouse gases.
Unlike any other pilot, Santa has special permission from the FAA to fly thousands of domestic and international short-haul and long-range flights in one night. In keeping with the FAA’s science-based proposal to give pilots more rest, Santa will arrange his flight plan based on his circadian rhythm. Mrs. Claus also assured FAA safety inspectors that she’ll make sure he gets plenty of rest before the flight on Christmas Eve.

The howlowday cards are pouring in;)

December 20th, 2010 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Howlowday Card Lovers…..Well, we are certainly one of those in basset hound town! Look at the pile I am accumulating!

The Mayor even came into his satellite office to check it out!

This is pretty interesting. Remember howl I said I wanted to get about 2.5 million cards. I was kind of joking but ya never know, Right? Anyway, I was watching Sunday Morning, (the show) this past Sunday Morning and they did a small segment on a girl that was in the hospital with some disease (I was only half listening) until they said that she was requesting Christmas Cards to see if she could get into Ripley’s Believe it or not for the most Christmas Cards ever received. She received over a million cards from all over the world. Her request went viral.

Could you imagine if that happening in Basset Hound Town? Howl funny.

Well, I sure am going to enjoy opening the cards that are still coming in. I will be reporting back in the next few days with the total and my matching amount that will be sent to House of Puddles.

More Ripleys Believe it or Not later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Can you imagine us walking down the road together? Just a vision!

So, Emma got a bit “over it” and was not into showcasing the reversible side.

Our very own Trooper graces the cover of Basset Buddies Rescue of TX calendar!

December 16th, 2010 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and lovers of Trooper! I just love Trooper. Trooper is actually my hero. OMD he has come so far. Do the residents remember himz? If you want to read about Trooper just put his name in the search area on the blog and about 10 posts will come up.

We all worked really hard to raise money for his medical care. This guy really touched us all. Now Trooper is giving back and is gracing the cover of the 2011 Basset Buddies Rescue of TX Calendar!

Trooper just sent me a calendar and each month is better than the next.

Do you need another calendar? Sure you do! Here is the link to purchase a precious calendar featuring a real hero!

I was struck by a picture on BBTX. I am not sure who this couple is but it kinda choked me up…..

I asked Cindy Doyle, resident and fellow basset hound rescuer in this area to update us if she can. If you buy a calendar these kids will benefit.

Thanks Basset Buddies for all you do. I support you every paw step of the way!

Rachel Ray’s book debut in Birmingham is going to the dogs! To Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama that is!

December 16th, 2010 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama Lovers! Wow, I just saw this come over the basset hound breaking news wires….Howl cool is this?

Veronica Kennedy — The Birmingham News

Minnie Pearl will attend tonight’s book-signing with Rachael Ray at the Books-A-Million in Colonial Brookwood Village.

Miss Pearl is a Basset hound dumped by her puppy mill owners after she stopped producing litters. She will benefit from the $7,500 donation the TV chef and cookbook author is making to Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama on her stop in Birmingham to promote her latest book, “Look+Cook.”

“Minnie Pearl was almost literally bred to death,” said Trudy Phillips, treasurer and spokeswoman for the Basset rescue based in Birmingham. When she was taken in, the dog was malnourished and in general poor health. She was given lots of love in a foster home and gained some weight. Soon after she was spayed, she had a cancerous tumor removed from her head.

She has recovered, and is looking for her forever human. She will be one of about five Basset hounds at the event, along with volunteers from the rescue group.

Ray is visiting Birmingham because of her large fan base here. It will be her second trip to the Magic City.

“We love Birmingham because Birmingham loves us,” Ray said during a telephone interview. “We pull in Oprah-like numbers in Birmingham.”

Ray has two charities she funds through the sale of her branded products:

> Yum-O, created in 2006, focuses on helping families develop healthy relationships with food and cooking through education as well as scholarships and other financial assistance. The sale of items ranging from T-shirts to cookware funds the organization.

> Rachael’s Rescue focuses on animal shelters and animal rights groups throughout the country. Profits from the sale of Nutrish pet foods and Just 6 pet treats are donated to national groups such as North Shore Animal League, Bad Rap, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and America’s VetDogs as well as smaller local animal rescues.

Ray is known for her enthusiasm for cooking on The Food Network as well as her weekday syndicated talk show, which airs in Birmingham on Fox6.

She is just as enthusiastic about animals; in fact, her choice of dog breed is political to her.

Isaboo, Ray’s personal pet, is a rednose pit bull. She said she has owned at least one pit bull for the past 20 years.

“It is my breed for life,” she said. “There is no such thing as an evil animal; there are just evil people.”

Ray loves to mince veggies on her TV shows, but she doesn’t mince any words when it comes to her feelings about pro football player Michael Vick, who served 21 months in prison after being convicted of interstate dog fighting.

“I held his bait dog in my lap,” she said of Vick. “He should be given an allowance and forced to give the rest of the money he earns to animal shelters. Anyone who tortures animals or small children is evil.”

Ray has put her money where her mouth is. Since founding Rachael’s Rescue in 2008, she has raised — and donated — $1.4 million. On this current book tour, where she is setting up what she calls “pop-up adoptions,” she is handing out $775,000 to rescue groups in the dozen or so cities she plans to visit.

“We’re still pinching ourselves,” Basset rescue’s Phillips said. “Two weeks ago, when we found out we were going to be featured at the book-signing, I almost fell out of my chair. And then, when we found out how much we were getting, I almost fell out of my chair again.

“This is awesome.”

Phillips said the money will be put in the rescue’s medical account.

End of article!

Ahhhhhhhhh……..Take some time to read more about the beautiful Minnie Pearl on the Basset Hound Rescue of Alabama’s website

Congratulations on your win Alabama! We are so proud of you. Tell Rachel hi from basset hound town!

Do you believe in JINX?

December 15th, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and not loving JINX lovers?????

I have been wondering if I should do a blog about this for a long time. I was worried that I would JINX basset hound town.

So, I decided, in honor of the good vibes of basset hound town, I would talk about the following….

I am thrilled beyond belief! I am jumping over the blue moon of Kentucky! Can you believe it?

Hey, I am not going to question it. I just wanted to see what the residents thought? I know there are many homeless bassets across the other states but not in our immediate area.

What a nice thing this holiday season. I no longer believe in JINX! I refuse!

Neither does VooDoo, our last homeless hound that is now living very large in Ohio!

More loving not hearing from pounds later…Cat, Chaps and Emma
