Secret Treasures Along The Way…

November 14th, 2012 - 3:03 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Secret Treasure Lovers….I call this little town a secret treasure.  Grandma, Chaps and I were on our way home from Carter Caves back a few weeks ago, just pushing down the road because I was sick as sick can be.  Out of the corner of my sick eye I saw this.

I knew it was a must to turn around and get back to that bridge for a gorgeous photo op.  I was soooo right.

It really was like entering a magic world.  Look at that little white church!

The Goddard White Covered Bridge  is the only surviving example of Ithiel Town Lattice design in Kentucky, with timbers joined by wooden pegs. Actual date of construction and the original builder are unknown, but the bridge can be traced back to the 1820’s. A favorite spot for photographers, the Goddard Bridge frames the Goddard United Methodist Church in the background. A historically accurate renovation was recently completed on this bridge and it is again open to both pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

I just could not believe that this little secret treasure town and spot is only an hour and a half away from our home.  We will certainly go back and hopefully visit this tiny town during the upcoming holiday season.  I bet it just sparkles.

If you walk past the little church, across some farm land is this barn.  Look at that stunning barn quilt.

So, our little side trip was one of the best moments of the bigger trip.  As we headed back to the car one more snap of the bridge…

There is a picnic table right here where I took this picture from.  Just so beautiful and serene.

More loving secret treasures along the way later…Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB laying under her own family quilt (aka gully)

A Gift of Summer in November….

November 10th, 2012 - 11:11 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Summer in November Lovers…Today it was 72 degrees in bassethoundtown.  Freaky for sure!  It was such a gift because I had some last minute clean up to do in the garden.

I did all of the heavy lifting as the Mayor supervised on his first day of retirement. As I emptied the flower pots of dead flowers I also furminated his honor.

Finding it hard to give up his supervising duties, the Mayor followed me down to the garage as I put up the flower pots….

I was very excited to see this.  He has trouble going down steps so this was a sign that his acupuncture is helping.  He did it all by himself without me guiding his rear end.

What a nice gift of summer in November…

More loving more of it tomorrow….Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB guiding the Mayor’s hips…

The Mayor aka The Teacher’s Pet…Retires from school visits today….

November 9th, 2012 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Teacher’s Pet Lovers…Today the Mayor was booked to read the Lily Book to his favorite school.  He has been invited every year since 2006.

With his basket of apples for the teachers we headed out.

I had to snap this picture on the way in.  It was bitter sweet.  I kind of knew this would be his retirement day.

The kids were pawsome and so well behaved.  Chaps was the star he always is.

But now it is time to retire with his stellar Lily Book reading career a thing of remembered beauty.  Just like himz.

I was telling the kids today that in human years the Mayor is 84.  One of  his favorite things to do was reading the Lily Book to kids but I saw a little something today that said he was done.

I love you Chaps. We are going to have a great retirement.

More loving a job well done later…Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB with Lily smiling down…

Tugger the lab pup – YouTube Find of the Day

November 8th, 2012 - 3:03 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and YouTube Find of the Day Lovers….

This morning I was up with the Mayor at about 4:00ish am.  He has been restless and sometimes confused around this time, (could he wait a few hours?).  Anyway, we get up and move around a little bit.  This morning I was waiting for him to come in from the back deck and saw this video being passed around.

I thought I would share it with the residents…

After we went back to bed I had a dream that there was a pure white basset puppy laying on a table.  I went over and picked it up and started kissing her belly and laughing and laughing.  I was so happy.  Grandma walked in and I looked at her and said, “can we keep her?” and she said yes!

That is funny for several reasons.  After Emma we said never again to a puppy.  Isn’t that mean? I can remember putting her in her kennel at night and collapsing from exhaustion.  Gawd she was a handful but she was soooooooooo cute.

But I tell you what, if I walked by that table and that puppy was laying there it would be damn hard.

More loving dreams later….Cat, Chaps and Emma at the bridge probably laying on that table.  hehehe

Bassethoundtown find of the day!

November 7th, 2012 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and find of the day lovers.  As you can see, this find is from our very own town.

Oh, those were the days.  I can just see the glimmer in Emma’s eyes.  She was the master of fun.  What a darling memory.

More loving finds of the day later…Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB having fun with Natalie, Chloe and Lily…I miss my girls.

Wow! That was a wild ride…

November 7th, 2012 - 1:01 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and wild ride lovers….

Let’s face it!

Can we all agree to disagree again?

Only 3 more years until it all starts again!

Yes, a Presidential term is 4 years but really lets face it.  The last year is spent campaigning.

Carry on…

More congratulating the winners now and later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB sitting on the highest supreme court now…

As Bassethoundtown goes so does America;)

November 6th, 2012 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and America Lovers…

Well, it was souls to the polls and the bowls!

Souls to the Bowls!

Here my soul voting….

We had paper ballots which was different than last year. Paper? Really?

As predicted the lines were not long but there was a palpable energy!

Kind of like Freedom of Choice!

When I showed up at check in the woman asked, "are you here to vote?" Hum...Like I said it was early.

Look howl pretty!

Red White and Beautiful Blue!

I keep my I VOTED stickers on the mirror behind my desk.  Today makes 5 Presidential elections I have voted for in this home.

I asked for an extra sticker for our Mayor.  He voted for woman’s rights.

“As Bassethoundtown goes so does America!”  I am your Mayor, Chaps Rudert…

More loving election day later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB believing in women from the bottom of her pink patty….

The Mayor demands! “Get Your Soul (and rump roast) to the Polls Tomorrow”!

November 5th, 2012 - 11:11 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Souls to the Polls Lovers…

The Mayor would love to remind his residents to get your rump roast and soul to the polls tomorrow.

I have my alarm set and my red, white and blue outfit all picked out.

Red, White and Blue Sky Rights Forever!

red white and blue skys

My plan is to vote no matter howl long it takes.  Since I am not in OH, voter suppression should not be a problem but if it is, I will be ready….I carbo loaded tonight.

Interestingly, if you think about it, voter suppression is nothing new.  We have won many rights since the days of only white male property owners being granted the right to vote.  Many fought for our rights that we all have tomorrow.

I have always looked at election day as a holiday.  My marathon starts at 5:30am (Way too early with Willie Geist) and will go for 24 hours.  I might take a short nap with the Mayor.

We all have a voice!

More loving voices later…Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB, the sweetest soul of all, where no suppression is allowed!

PS – don’t forget to carbo load!

Colby Chaps Mommy sent me this picture the other day…

Like son, like father

Wonder what was for dinner?

Like Big Daddy, like baby boy!

More loving Kitchen Kids later…Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB hating when that dang dish washer was open.
