I have to tell you all something.  When I looked at, and then picked this picture to share, I swear I could smell them.

It was a very nice few sensory seconds!

I do miss them so.

More loving the sense of smell later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB stinking up the rainbows)

Extra Grainy Selfie!

November 4th, 2013 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hounds and Extra Grainy Selfie Lovers..

Daisy Lynn has a new “trick”!  She leaps up on the couch, crawls behind me, and lays on the arm.  I’m not proud but I did have my camera.

Grainyselfie

See her paw trying to keep me from getting her off the couch?  See that begging look in her eyes?

As we speak, Daisy Lynn is really wearing me down on this couch thing.

November 3rd, 2013 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Autumn Leaves us all Falling Back Lovers…

Yes, well the time change is upon us now.  The days are shorter and the evenings will be darker sooner in bassethoundtown.

Daisy Lynn’s clock listens to no time change.  So off we went then…

Dog Friendly Kentucky – with bassethoundtown! Part three – (Bluegrass Driving Tour)

November 1st, 2013 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Bluegrass Touring Lovers…Here we have the third and final part of our Bluegrass Driving Tour.  What a great trip and can you believe it was only an overnight???  It was a whirlwind of dog friendly fun, fun, fun!

After we left Keeneland we hit a few more of the 42 points of interest along the tour.  This place, called Post Castle, is within minutes of Keeneland.  This was someone’s dream that was never reached back in the 1960s.  It has been vacant over time but now it is owned by a Lexington Attorney named Post and he and his team have turned it into a hotel of sorts.

It doesn’t get the best review on TripAdvisor but we would never stay there anyway.  They don’t allow dogs!  (The nerve)

The rumor when I was at UK was that Lee Majors was looking into buying it for Farrah Fawcett but… enter Ryan O’Neal.

We carried along our merry way past several more horse farms that were jaw droppingly beautiful. Horse barns the size of hotels.

Our next stop was at the Headly-Whitney Museum.  It was unfortunately closed on Tuesdays but this gives us another good reason to return soon.  This is a rare collection of distinctive Jewels and a Library on the scenic La Belle Farm. It is number 24 on the map and it is tucked away on the back roads of this tour.

As stated on the website…

“After nearly a decade of success on the West Coast, Headley returned to his family farm, La Belle, in Lexington and continued his career designing jewelry and bibelots. Bibelots (pronounced “bib-loh”) is French for knickknack or curio, and are small, ornate decorative objects of beauty rather than being functional pieces.

In 1960, Headley married Barbara Whitney Henry Peck (d. 1982), sister of noted thoroughbred horseman Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney (1899-1992) and daughter of the sculptor Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (d. 1942), founder of New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art.”

Just your average couple;)

Then it was off to the Kentucky Horse Park.  WOW!  We had such a great time.

BGDTP2-8

This place is huge and you actually need about a day if you want to linger through the entire place.  We could have seen more during our several hours but…..The Future Farmers of America were coming in by the bus load from all over the USA and Daisy Lynn seemed to be the main attraction!!!

This picture does not begin to show the slew of teenagers that were waiting in line to pet Daisy Lynn.  It was a bit overwhelming.  Daisy Lynn did not miss a beat.

BGDTP216

There were so many first for our young Mayor!

Check out these massive draft horses.  It was like Daisy Lynn was in a trance.  The sounds of their clip clops were so pretty.

BGDTP2-9

They had just left what they call the “Big Barn”, after getting groomed and harnessed up for a walk around the park.  We missed that but here is the barn!

BGDTP2-10

Now you see howl it gets the name!  This place was a clean as a whistle.

Then another first!  A young man in a 10 person golf cart pulled up and asked us if we wanted a ride over to the show, Horses of the World!

Daisy Lynn loaded right up between Grandma and I, white knuckling it around her.  Her ears were flying and people were pointing.  It was so much fun.

Look at Daisy Lynn’s favorite!

BGDTP2-17

We saved Man O War for the way out.  Considered one of the greatest horses of all times.

March 29, 1917 – Faraway Farm, November 1, 1947

BGDTP2-13

He is buried under this memorial which reflects his proud nature.

What a great trip!

We left for home and continued to listen to the audio book I bought for the ride.  It is 13 hours long so I have to get busy planning our next dog friendly road trip.

More Dog Friendly Road Trips with Bassethoundtown later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB – riding in rainbow golf carts over to visit Man O War…)
