Angelika and Ms. Brandy are Golden HOP heros!

April 24th, 2008 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Gold Rush lovers! This donation is just in from fellow miners, Angelika and Ms. Brandy. Aunt Angelika sent me old gold that had been in her jewelry box for a long time. Some of it was over 20 years old! (broken chains and other items)

We love Angelika and Brandy for that. As I always do, I took a picture of their donation prior to going to the jewelry store. A few of the chains that make the underline were not gold. However, they were the very smallest of their donation.

The grand total, as reflected in the check Ft. Thomas Jewelers wrote me is 74.40!

IMG_4459.jpg

I will over to the Firstgiving page and make the donation in our sweet Angelika and Brandy’s names!

IMG_4463.jpg

As you can see, I blur the signature and the checking account number. I would not want anyone devious on my blog to see that. I take every precaution to guard all of my vendors, readers, and site visitors.

More Gold Updates Later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. I had 2 packages today in my PO Box! Slurp! Stay tuned and please send me your old gold. The HOP hounds in their golden years need it very much!

You have got to be kidding me!

April 23rd, 2008 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Art lovers:

OK, I was having fun searching the net for a story I saw on TV at lunch about a glittering tiara featuring a 101 carat diamond estimated to sell for as much as $7.5 million when it is auctioned in Hong Kong next month.

As many of you know I have been collecting gold and stones for House of Puddles and I found it interesting. I thought that maybe someone out in cyber space could buy it for Marilyn because she is a Queen! Here is the picture.

101_carat_diamond.jpg

The report states, “It’s a tiara fit for a princess, but some worry jewellery sales may slow down in coming months due to a weakening global economy.”

That’s the part that cracked me up. “some worry”! LOL!

Anyway, I went to Sothebys website to try and find a better picture of it and that is when I ran across this.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME? CLICK THE PICTURE AND HAVE YOURSELF A LAUGH!

Who would buy these things? It just boggles my mind. I am glad that I don’t understand.

Lucien the Love Machine Goes to the Rainbow Bridge:(

April 2nd, 2008 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Lucien Lovers: I know there are many of you out there. Melynda made sure the love machine’s stories were told and I was one of the many who waited for each and every one of them. I love how Melynda named him Lucien after the American trombone player, Lucien Barbarin.
Lucien_Barbarin_and_HCT__JC.jpg

20071021_023.jpg

Just one of the many stories that made Lucien the hound’s life so colorful. Melynda is a good friend of mine and I asked her to write a bio for me so I could do a blog posting in Lucien’s honor. He was such a good boy and many people and hounds are going to miss him. I count myself as one of them.

Lucien the Love Machine Goes to the Rainbow Bridge

3-29-08

37f26bb0.jpg

I adopted Lucien and his bonded companion Lillian from Homewoods Rescue for the Wayward Hound on September 10, 2006, about two months after my sweet Agnes Marie Basset Hound departed for the Bridge. This is her picture!

2711

I had seen Lucien (Logo) on Petfinder before Agnes passed and I thought he was the most handsome basset I’d ever seen. He was ten years old, a very striking light lemon-and-white, but he looked so sad to be stuck in rescue. A few days after Agnes made her journey, I checked on him and he was gone from Petfinder. I contacted the rescue to make sure he had been adopted and had not gone to the Bridge instead, and his rescuer Marth asked me if I could make room in my heart for him and his bonded companion, Lizzy (now Lilly).

20061019_596.jpg

Lucien’s original family had put him into rescue as a senior after a death in the family. His last year he had been kept outside in the yard and he was very depressed. He had been adopted but was returned to rescue for bad habits like separation anxiety and sleeping on the couch. Their loss was my gain.

Lucien was very suspicious of me at first and kept to himself, but after about three days he seemed to realize all at once that this was to be his forever home, and he looked at me with the happiest, most radiant expression on his face that I’ve ever seen on anyone, human or hound. After that, his personality really came through and he began jumping on the couch, in the bed, on my lap, and barking at me to make his dinner on time. He was just so loving and happy and he especially loved to cuddle with my housemate Amanda, and she loved him right back.

A few days after I got them Lilly went into heat just as I was getting ready to take her for her spay, and that’s when Lucien earned his nickname,

“The Love Machine.”

381592_1204945194.jpg

He was neutered but he didn’t know that. He really thought the world would be a much better place with some more solid-white basset puppies in it. It didn’t work of course but he sure tried.

Fishin.jpgOver the next year and a half, Lucien and Lilly learned to enjoy car rides and trips and we went a lot of places in our BUV. We went to Petsmart, to House of Puddles frequently, to the Boardwaddle in Ocean City, NJ and to the BROOD Ramble in Williamsport, VA. Everywhere he went he always found a new doggie girlfriend and made lots of new human friends. At the BROOD Ramble, Lucien conned a family into giving him some of their lunch (a hot dog, with mustard and ketchup, cut up, on a plate) and he spent most of the day hanging out at the adoption booth. I don’t think he was shopping for a new family though.

Lucien was also a proud member of Kaylee’s Sitteruppers Club. He is sitting up at the bridge right now, most likely with it’s founder Bernie Johnson who passed the same week as Lucien.

Lucien_Sits_Up_4_Cheez.jpg

Lucien suffered from what we thought was coughing brought on by severe allergies and hayfever, and his vet prescribed allergy medication, but it wasn’t really helping so I made another appointment last week. He lost his appetite so I bribed him to eat with all his favorites: ham and scrambled eggs, Popeye’s chicken and biscuits, bologna and cheez sandwiches, cheezburgers, pancakes and bacon.
381592_1201793265.jpg

By Friday night, he had become very weak, had lost a lot of weight, and was having trouble breathing. When I took him in Saturday morning, they x-rayed him and discovered he had end-stage lung cancer. We never knew because he never showed any symptoms until right at the end. There was no hope for meaningful recovery, and keeping him here would have been selfish. So I made the very sad decision to send him to the Bridge.

Lilly has been grieving very badly, but our friend Marilyn at House of Puddles offered to let me adopt Lilly’s bestest furend, Becky, to be her new sister and companion. We got Becky the same night Lucien went to the Bridge so Lilly never has to be alone. Girl_Power.jpg

Lucien had a paw in Becky’s adoption because he couldn’t stand for anyone, human or hound, to be sad. And I know Lucien’s not alone either, because he joined his kitty Max who also made a sudden journey to the Bridge less than a month ago.

IMG_0622.jpg

He’s with his sister Agnes Marie Basset Hound and many others, including his friend Rudolph who followed his path yesterday. He leaves many sad friends and furends behind though Lucien touched a lot of lives.

Mommy loves you sweet boy…..

You can see Lucien on his Dogster Page: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/381592

Your presence will be missed on this earth but your soul will always be with us.

Rudolph makes his way to the rainbow bridge today:(

April 1st, 2008 - 3:03 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow hound and Rudolph lovers: Our big red boy made his way to the rainbow bridge today after a sudden onset of grand mal seizures. Many of you will remember Rudolph as one of the Seniors that my Mom and I picked up from the Campbell County, KY high kill pound. A wonderful woman named Chris paid for their boarding costs until we could transport them to the House of Puddles. Rudolph soon came to live as a foster from the HOP with Gail at the Farm. Gail states,

“I just received a phone call from the vets office. She had called Marilyn first and told her that it didn’t look like the medication was going to help him any. He had started coming out of the sedative and looked to be going back into another seizure. Before the vet could contact me, Rudolph went to the bridge on his own.

I am going to go pick him up and take him to the funeral home to be cremated. He will come back home and be buried in the flower bed outside where he use to love to lay these past warm days we have been having.”

Marilyn states, “The vet thought it could very likely be a result of the heartworms, causing a blood clot in his brain. I am so deeply grateful to Gail for giving Rudolph the very best last 3 months of his life that he could have had. He knew he was loved. Rest in peace, dear Rudolph.”

Here is a YouTube video I made of both boys’ journey to the HOP!

Yesterday, Marilyn sent me a few items from her Cafepress store as a thank you for all of the fund-raising efforts I have made for the HOP. Both items featured Rudolph, who she knew I cherished. Here are pictures of the items which I will treasure forever.

Marilyn has a Cafepress Store and you can purchase these items as well. If you purchase a Rudolph pillow, it will help to defray his medical costs which were exhorbanent. Here is the link to the pillow:
CAFEPRESS RUDOLPH PILLOW

Here is the link to the “tote”lly cool tote:
RUDOLPH AND HERMEY TOTE

It is a just a suggestion, but buying any of these items will help defray the vet costs for our dearly departed Rudolph. He only knew joy for 3 months of his 12 years and those were the ones at Gail’s farm with her and her family. They loved and fostered Rudolph for Marilyn at the
House of Puddles.

Oh, how I loved that boy…………….

God Speed Rudolph, you made the world a better place.

Gold Rush Trading Post Opens for Business!

March 26th, 2008 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Gold Rush Lovers! For those of you that are new readers, Devon and I have a Firstgiving Page!

Please click on our FG link and send us gold! This is such a cool and fun way to help the House of Puddles. The vet bills are exorbitant, reaching over 10,000 dollars in just 3 months this year.

I have noticed another increase in my Blog’s readership. Over 1000 people a day are checking in. Welcome to each and every one of you. I am overwhelmed and thrilled that you come to bassethoundtown.com for your daily fix!

Today we struck a major vein of gold. Three packages arrived at the
Gold Rush Trading Post, (my PO Box) and we are so excited and busy. We photograph every haul and document precisely what our jewler gives us. Then we send 100% of that amount to HOUSE OF PUDDLES!

IMG_4099.JPG

Speaking of the HOP, this was the package we received from Marilyn herself! She is the Mom of the HopPers. This is just fantastic. I will be updating the Gold Rush Trading Post with what this is worth. The little ring has small diamonds in it. The pearl earring is so pretty and has a shade of pink to it. The other gold earring is a nice size as you can see!

Most of us have items we can give as you will see from the other two packages I received today.

This one came from Audra, Mom of Colby Chaps, Chaps’ only son! Audra, I love these items. As a matter of fact, if my jewler thinks I can sell the gold knot earrings for more money, I will do that. I will put them in the HOP boutique on my website.

Audra, thank you sooooooo much. You have some cool GOLD and a totally pawsome stone!

IMG_4107.JPG

IMG_4111.JPG

You can send all of your items and trust me. I will make sure everything is documented and showcased for the world to see. I think that this is a super way to give to a cause! Gold is at an all time high and many of us have items that have laid around for years!

How pretty are these items? I am just so jazzed.

Then, Ms. Linda Ferrell arrives at the Gold Rush Trading post and the beauty continues. Linda, you also have a item that might be able to be placed in the HOP Boutique. Those beautiful gold link earrings.

Believe me folks, I will research this and make sure these items go into the correct catagory for maximum return. I cherish your hard work in sending these items to me. I will make sure we get top dollar for the HOP.

IMG_4112.JPG

I will update everyone on my progress and I want to remind you, if your donation is over 25.00 Devon and I are offering a free gift!
Go to our
FirstGiving Page
and read all about it.

I am working on putting the Gold Rush Trading Post on my Home page with Devon and mine’s Firstgiving page. This will make it easier for all of you miners out there in cyber space to keep track of us.

As soon as I learn what all of this is all worth, I will be updating the Official Gold Rush Trading Post link.

I keep referring to My JEWELER. Here is the link to their store.
