Riche Churchill September 7, 1931 – October 17, 2019

October 31st, 2019 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllow Fellow Basset Hound and Riche Churchill Lovers…Well, we all know I was one of those.  Our dear friend, mentor, basset rescue advisor, icon, comic, and pillar of our basset hound demographic has passed away.  She left us during the evening of October 17th due to complication from heart disease.  She had just turned 88.  October 17th was also Chaps birthday at the bridge.  He would have been 19 years old.  I am certain that Chaps was there helping Riche.  Not only Chaps but all of the hounds and animals that Riche has helped along the way.

I have so much more to write about Riche and I will over time.  I am going to set up a sub-blog in her name to recall much more about her long and often amazing life.  Riche was writing her life story when she passed.  She had accomplished a huge chunk of it but so more was left untold.  I hounded her every chance I could to write it down.  I devoured every episode she sent.

I also have a facebook page devoted to Riche.  I started it years ago in an effort to get her more subscriptions and it did help a little bit.

More, much more loving Riche later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps, what a good boy, and Emma ATB – getting belly rubs from Riche…)

Howlow Fellow Basset Hound and Reflection Lovers…

OMGAWD!!! Daisy Lynn went out the back gate last night!!!

July 24th, 2019 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllow Fellow Basset Hound and glad I am still alive lovers…

OK, by still being alive I mean I almost had a heart attack.  No lies…

I was in my office doing some rescue work and I realized that Daisy Lynn had been out back longer than usual.  I went out to check and one side of the gate was open.  I screamed at the top of my lungs…“DAISY LYNN, DAISY LYNN”…

See the gate back there?  This is an old picture, I of course did not have my phone with me.  I was near death.  The gate was open when I looked out.  I ran out the front door and I heard a woman and her small daughter talking to Daisy, “what are you doing? You are not supposed to be out here are you?”  I stumbled down the front steps trying to catch my breath.

The woman and the little girl helped me get Daisy back behind the gate.  They were so sweet, caring, kind, and tried to be comforting.  I lost some years off my life for sure.

So glad that Grandpa was looking over her.  I know he was.  Those 2 gals were there for a reason.  I know that.

The case remains open as to howl the gate was open.  There is a little boy down the street that has a bad habit of terrorizing the neighbors.  I have seen him climb my gate and told him not to do anymore.

He is just like Dennis Menace.  In fact that is what we call him.  I am now getting a double lock on the gate.

OK, let’s get back to normal.  Put this incident behind us…

More loving that she is safe later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB watching over Daisy Lynn…)

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and night stand lovers…

Look at my little night stand.  Isn’t it cute?

I could not find a night light I loved so I designed it and put it together myself.

I just wanted to share because it turned out so cute with the picture frame and Daisy Lynn’s look.

“Now I don’t want to get out of bed”…(that is a quote from Daisy Lynn;)

Happy first day of summer – 2019 and welcome to KYbassethoundrescue at bassethoundtown!

June 21st, 2019 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllow fellow basset hound and first day of summer lovers.  This is the basset hound day of the year!  Howl is that possible?  It is the L O N G E S T day of the year!!!  hahaha!!!

This is not the best image for viewing Daisy Lynn’s length but it’s cute!  I get comments on her length all the time even from other basset hound owners…

Here she is on the turquoise velvet couch at 21c Museum Hotel in Lexington, KY.  We did a short book tour for my birthYEAH!!!  62 years young and I just realized that I have been rescuing basset hounds for almost half of my life.  WOW!!!

Always look for your light…

For my birthday I received our 501(c)3 IRS approved not for profit status.  The name of the new rescue is KYbassethoundrescue at bassethoundtown.  I have owned the domain for about 20 years. What a nice gift for me and for the hounds in the past and in the future that will benefit.

I have a facebook page that I post stuff on as well.

KYbassethoundrescue at bassethoundtown

You can like us and THANK YOU!!!

We used our time wisely at the 21c Museum Hotel Lexington, KY and did a photo shoot of a vintage Ralph Lauren pillow case snood designed and made exclusively by bassethoundtown enterprises.  100% of the money made from this snood will go directly to the new rescue.  I am not done with all of the details yet but residents will be given a first viewing shortly.

Before the photo shoot Daisy Lynn had room service brunch…

She is not one of those models who watches her weight.  A full model is a happy model!!!

Then she practiced her sitting up skills…

Then when the light was just right… we did the photo shoot!

Feast your eyes on this exclusive Ralph Lauren snood made from a vintage constance woodstock garden floral pillow case that was never used. So soft and elegant. 100% from the sale of this designer snood will go to KYbassethoundrescue at bassethoundtown and will include free greeting cards featuring our very own Champion, Ralph Lauren “Chaps” the late Mayor of #bassethoundtown. Thank you to our seamstress and friend #SusanGabbard.

Modeled by Internet Influencer Mayor Daisy Lynn Rudert…

What a great birthday spent with Daisy Lynn and the Vice President of our new rescue, Grandma!

Nothing feels so good as a refurbished gully blanket;)

May 29th, 2019 - 3:03 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and refurbished Gully blanket lovers…Well, the day finally came when we thought the Gully was on it’s last short legs…It was so loved that it was fraying all around the edges and rips and tears were taking their toll.  The famous Gully was Emma’s way back staring in 2006.

Emma was never far from her Gully, especially when she went blind from hereditary  glaucoma so young…too young…

Here is the famous Gully, all folded up in the background with Chaps and Emma.  Chaps never ever took it from her.

Well, now we have Mayor Daisy Lynn Rudert and she has nested under the famous Gully for going on 7 years.  The thing was almost in shreds until our bassethoundtown seamstress Susan took it back to her shop and saved it!

OMGAWD, OMDOG, OMGULLY!!! – You would never know that it is not brand new.  Every detail was paid attention to…

Life sure is Gully Good!

More nesting later…Love Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chap and Emma ATB under rainbow Gullies)

Wilbert the basset hound finds safe dumped in Branksome Park Woods, UK

May 10th, 2019 - 6:06 am KY Time

Howllow Fellow Basset Hound and Hounds in the news lovers…

As most of the residents know I love to follow the news on all things basset hound and when the story came up I just had to share!!!

Wilbert the basset hound finds safe dumped in
Branksome Park Woods, UK

A CANINE with a nose for crime sniffed out a safe dumped in a Poole woodland following a suspected burglary.

Wilbert the basset hound, who is nearly three years old, was being walked in Branksome Park Woods at around 11am on Saturday, March 16, when he made the surprising discovery in a bush.

The crime-fighting hound had managed to find a black square safe, which had its door taken off, and a number of clear plastic boxes, each one bearing a white label with a different quantities of cash written on.

Nine year-old Ari Semple was walking Wilbert at the time with his dad Stuart.

Ari said: “Wilbert started woofing at this bush and he found a safe that had loads of boxes that would have been filled with cash.

“It must have been stolen.”

“He was howling and we were like, ‘What’s going on?’ He was obsessed.”

Ari said Wilbert had been given a snack “and lots of cuddles” as a reward.

Following the discovery, Ari and his dad contacted the police who thanked them for reporting it and said they would be investigating.

Ari said while it was nice having a “detective dog”, it was “sometimes annoying” because Wilbert sniffed out Ari’s treats such as mint chocolate that he was trying to keep hidden.

Basset hounds have more than 220 million smell receptors, and the part of their brains responsible for the sense of smell is some 40 times that of a humans.

END OF ARTICLE…

Wow – what a story!!!  Can you believe howl cute Ari and Wilbert are?  Wilbert has some really fluffy fur for sure!!!

More searching the wires for basset hound news later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB admiring Wilbert’s expert detective skills…)
