Remember the goodie bag that the Brownies donated to House of Puddles?

June 11th, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Brownie Lovers……Today I finally got it together to mail 30 pounds of dog stuff donated by the Brownie Troop that Chaps visited last month. Wow! 30 POUNDS! Here is a long shot of all the stuff.

IMG_7166

Then I took three separate pictures of the stuff so you can see what went to House of Puddles today.

I had to laugh at the Frisbees. Can you see Hermey and Buttermilk flying through the air catching a Frisbee? I figure Marilyn can put some of this stuff in her raffle baskets.

Also, in this picture is a pink rhinestone collar for a dog the size of a guinea pig.

LOL

Here is the next shot….There is a plastic bag full of dog toys, including the famous mallard duck toy! Nice!

IMG_7169

Here is the final shot of the loot!

IMG_7170

There is so much cool stuff here. I bet Marilyn will have so much fun looking through all the stuff and the HoPpers will go bananas!

Thank you Brownie Troop!

Volunteer Day at House of Puddles a Big Success

May 31st, 2010 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Volunteering at House of Puddles for the Day Lovers….

On Saturday, May the 29th, Marilyn held the first ever House of Puddle Volunteer Day. I would have loved to attend, but that drive is just a bit to far.

I did an interview of Marilyn the day after the event and here it is:

This was your very first VD, are you going to make it an annual event or perhaps several times per year?

Marilyn: I think we’ll do it at least annually, but might do another one in late summer.

Can you tell us howl many folks showed up for VD?

I didn’t count, maybe 20ish?

Cars at HOPVD

Who was the first to arrive and what time?

The first two I remember seeing were Alisa Garbrick and Peter Roebuck, around 10:00 I think. Most everyone else showed up shortly afterwards, all eager to get to work. It was amazing how enthusiastic everyone was.

Can we expect more pictures?

I didn’t take any pictures, myself. I did take video, but a lot of it didn’t turn out very well because I was walking as I was shooting, so everything looks pretty wobbly. Lesson learned!

It looks like you had a nice day. Did you get most of what you want
accomplished?

Yes, in addition to the beauty treatment the houndies got, Lisa Wallace and her husband took down a tree that was threatening to come crashing down on the fence – they have obviously done this many times before because they had all the equipment for it. I’m glad they got a tidy truck full of firewood. Peter Roebuck cleared a place and dug the wholes to put to rest 6 Hopper angels and Susan Randolph’s Stanley, a former Hopper. They are resting under beautiful lilies donated by Annika Frances and Susan’s father.

Peter

Another group beat back the jungle trying to take over a big landscaped area. And after lunch, the dog room in the basement got a thorough vacuuming and mopping and the patio was power washed. Oh, and the obvious chore – Susan scooped poop!

Truckwithfirewood

The hounds look in fine form, did they all get a bath?

Yes. All the hounds got baths and walkies, which was the top priority, and many of them got a good brushing.

Bath time at HOPVD

Howl many hounds would that be?

22 (21 Hoppers plus Melynda’s Becky, also a former Hopper)

Who is the biggest old baby at bath time?

I don’t know, I didn’t see most of the baths.

BathingHOPVD2

Did Jeeps have fun?

I’m sure he enjoyed seeing all the people and getting extra attention, but being a long legged coonhound, I had to keep him in the back yard because he would have jumped the baby gates protecting the food in the dining room.

Kentuckyinthehouse

Did Buttermilk get a lot of belly rubs?

I’m sure Buttermilk saw to it that she did.

Buttermilk milking the attention

Did Hermey make any new friends?

Everybody is Hermey’s friend.

IMG_2481

Did Susan Randolph leave with any of the hounds (LOL)?

No, but she almost made Bessie disappear with the extra good brushing she gave her.

Bessie

Can you tell us who came from the furthest to participate?

I’m not really sure, but it was probably Susan Randolph, all the way from Delaware.

Who scooped the most poop?

Susan.

Susanpoopscoop

Howl was the food? I saw that Susan Randolph brought her pupcake tree!

The food was fabulous! Susan’s cupcakes with their wicked fudge and cream cheese frostings are to die for. We had many other fantastic desserts, too, and chips & dips, meat balls, chicken, shrimp and sides. What a feast!

Susan Randolph Pupcakes

What time did VD wrap up?

Late afternoon, I think the last ones were gone by about 4:00.

VDHOP

Did HOP smell like wet hounds when everyone left?

No, they were all dry by then. But now I have a whole new crop of fur tumbleweeds floating around the house (but they’re very clean tumbleweeds).

Hoppers

Did all the hounds sleep sound at the end of the day?

Yes, they were pretty tuckered out from all the excitement.

Would you consider VD a great success?

Absolutely! I am so grateful for all the hard work everyone put in and we had a ton of fun, too.

VolunteerHOPVD

Do you have another function at HOP planned this year?

Other than another possible VD, I have a HOP pawty every year in October. It’s not a fundraiser or anything, just a time for basset lovers to get together and share food, fun & friendship, and it gives the houndies a chance to get some extra love & bellyrubs. I’ll post it on my Facebook page later in the year.

Meet the new HoPpers! Bogie & Ringo!

May 15th, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and wanting to meet the 2 newest HoPpers lovers!

This just in from Marilyn….

“Bogie and Ringo seem to be fitting right in. They’ve already been dashing out to the fence with the pack to bark at bunnies and deer. I guess they’re used to a doggie door because they’re comfortable going in and out. They’ve doused my face liberally with kisses several times so I think they like me. :)

I am pretty sure these hounds came to HOP from a death in their family. I am just so glad they are at HOP.

More, checking on Bogie & Ringo later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Marilyn states,

“Welcome Dora! She made it through doggie introductions quite well, explored the house a bit, drank a little water, did not feel like eating, settled down next to me while I’m at the computer and is now snoring away. She is a sweet, quiet girl (at least for now, they all seem to start out that way. lol)”

I love transports. They are very rewarding and a lot of fun. See if you are on the route! If not, pass this blog posting along. Click on the blog title and drag it into your e-mail or forum. That way just this blog posting will be crossposted.

Haiku du u?

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Haiku lovers!

Ginny Tata Phillips is a force of nature. The co-author of Dogku, Bassetku, Petku, and most recently Resku books of haiku poems about dogs and shelter rescues has a vivacious personality more akin to a cruise director or Disney tour guide than to a solitary writer. It’s hard to picture Phillips working in isolation for very long. “But then, I’m not,” she explains, pointing to the four basset hounds and one 10-year-old dachshund that inhabit her household. And this doesn’t include the rest of her menagerie of cats, birds, turtles, and fish.

In another life, Phillips owned a booming doggy daycare and boarding facility in California, work which introduced her to the rescue’ business. Her customers would drop off or leave animals they could no longer care for or didn’t want anymore. Since that time, Phillips has been keenly aware of the needs of rescue agencies. She and writing partner Diane Grindol donate a portion of the monies they receive from the sales of Resku to shelter and adoption groups. In particular, Phillips supports House of Puddles (www.houseofpuddles.org) and Senior Hounds Abound (www.seniorhoundsabound.org) because of their devotion to what else? Basset Hounds!

Other than her human family, Phillips loves her animals (maybe, especially the bassets). Her senior sweetie Charles, who is fifteen recently won runner-up in the Basset Buddies Rescue’s “Most Loveable Dog” contest. Charles’ photo brought in a whopping $126, out of the more than $1000 raised in support of Basset Rescue.

Phillips’ other passion is writing. Her ultimate goal is to produce a Dog Cookbook. But that will have to wait because bigger plans are in the offing. For her next writing project, Phillips will collaborate with author Tom Schreck, known for his Duffy Dombrowski mysteries that feature a Basset Hound as a main character. The duo’s plans for their book are top secret, although Phillips hints that rescues will feature prominently.

To purchase one of Phillips’s books, contact her for speaking engagements, or to meet this charming woman, email her at my4hounds@hotmail.com or friend her on Facebook.

From DOGKU:

The best thing about
a fire hydrant is that it’s
never occupied.

From RESKU:

If you buy a book mention HOP and Ginny will donate 2.50 from the sale to the HoPpers!
