I am so disappointed. What is wrong with America? How did 30,000 people care more about hair than precious lives?

    Oh my goD!!!! WHAT????!

I am so disappointed right now! What has this world turned into??

    March 28th, 2007 | 8:12 pm

This is shocking! I can’t believe that people wanted to reward someone who wanted hair (vainity) over someone who wants to give to animals that cannot help themselves. I am sick.

    OMG. I cannot believe that!

What is wrong with people and their morals & values in this country?
    Are we that superficial?

Hers was the only respectable unselfish cause on there.

I just found this website in the bugler. That is how I found out about the show. When I heard, I told everyone I knew to vote. I got on message boards I participate in that aren’t basset related to help spread the word outside of the basset community.

I personally voted several times. Lets see, it was 5 per phone line & 5 per email.
    5 House
    5 Cell
    5 My email
    5 Moms email
    5 Sisters email
    =25 votes

I honestly cannot believe he won, or that it was even close. That is so ridiculous!

I just got on the forums I posted on and asked people to donate.

I still cannot believe that guy won.

What is wrong with people, really????

    March 28th, 2007 | 8:17 pm

We can’t believe Devon didn’t win!!!! That guy can live without hair but the houndies can’t take care of themselves. We are very disappointed, I can’t believe that is what people care about.

Devon, let people know where they can donate to your wonderful cause.

    I sent ABC a comment:

“I am extremely disappointed in the outcome of this show. You put some very frivolous competition up against a truly worthy cause, saving the lives of animals who would otherwise be homeless, neglected and euthanized. And the frivolity won. Shame on ABC and shame on America for voting for such a silly, stupid, frivolous thing–let the young man use Rogaine or Propecia. Living creatures are far more important than vanity.”

We’re heartbroken for Devon and the MANY senior hounds at Daphneyland and all over. Too bad the other contestant didn’t have a “cause” for anything but himself. At least this blog goes to show that there are still many of us out there who DO CARE!
THANKS A MILLION to Devon for her efforts!

Simply shocking that America would vote for some guy who wanted hair over the countless basset hounds that would live in such a beautiful sanctuary.
So disappointing! Not only that but to look and see all the things they gave to this man for being on the show. Ridiculous. Breaks my heart to see what all of that money could have done for the hounds.

Add a big “DONATE NOW” button to the top of this blog and Devon will raise more money than she could have ever made from the show! Since she lost animal lovers are going to start searching the internet for ways to donate to her cause.

Spread the word and tell your friends and family to donate!

I cried. I can not believe that the people in this world chose that disgusting VAIN man over helping homeless animals. I am so sick to my stomach right now. I haven’t been this upset since the news about Steve Irwin. I searched the name “Devon Smith” and basset hounds until I finally found you guys here. I want to know where I can donate. SHAME ON THIS WORLD

  13. Leanne Roberts
    March 28th, 2007 | 8:33 pm

On the forum I posted at asking people to donate, I sent them to daphneyland. Is that the right place to send them?

    March 28th, 2007 | 8:39 pm

Sorry for another comment, but how can we make donations?!? (I didn’t see any links on this website.)

Please don’t miss this opportunity to make it very clear to everyone how they can donate to this wonderful cause!!!

I am so sad – I had to write again. I kept this “Joke” of a show on to see the other contestants. The final two womans dreams are to get their “Slacker” kids out of the house. This show is a joke – what a shame that these selfish people are being voted forward and someone as wonderful as Devon has been voted off. What is happening to this world?

I am so upset. I feel sick. In know that Dev has to be just heartsick over this.

For those of you asking to donate – you can go to http://www.bassetrescuenetwork.org/ to donate! There is a pay pal button.

This cannot be true. I’d like to see a coalition of bald guys that went out there and voted like we all did across this country!

  18. March 28th, 2007 | 9:09 pm

    My Dearest Devon.
You are my hero and you always will be regardless of some fur-less guy.

    We will OVERCOME!
We will raise the funds anyway!!!
Please spread the word!!! GRANT DEVONS DREAM!

Devon – I await your visist as I know I have tears to help dry….
    Ever yours….

I am also heartsick. I will never watch this stupid show again. My two hounds and I just donated $20 to Devon’s cause via Paypal. We will raise the money for what she needs!!

    Write to OPRAH about Devon.

She has posted on her website if you are in the Los Angeles area (which I think Devon is)”are you in desperate need of a dream come true?” It’s a show the producers are working on. Cut and paste the link below, scroll down to the Los Angeles section and click on the dream come true link.

  22. March 28th, 2007 | 9:24 pm

I can’t beleive this!!!! Why doesn’t he just where a hair peice?

  23. Luvalea
    March 28th, 2007 | 9:36 pm

OPRAH is an animal lover!! Let’s all send letters to Oprah to make Devon’s dream come true!

We all must fight for Devon’s cause!!

Tawny (still in shock up in Canada)
Oakley (we’re all gonna be seniors one day)

    March 28th, 2007 | 10:01 pm

I am in total shock too! Where are good old fashioned “American Values”? I think the Oprah thing is a great idea! It can’t hurt to try. I also know Oprah is a huge animal lover. Let’s do it!

  25. March 28th, 2007 | 10:22 pm

I am in absolute total shock. Since I read the first postings to the Drool just after 5pm Pacific Time, and knew the outcome, I have been trying to come to terms with the fact we lost to that bald idiot! I know I’m biased, but I really can’t believe that the “Great American Public” were more motivated to vote for him than for Devon.

Weighing up the vast support throughout the Basset community, plus the numbers of animal lovers out there in the world at large…. I can only assume this was rigged in some way. Either by ABC or by some computer rigging by the guy’s friends at University. I wonder if he’s a computer major???

Well, I’m still mopping the tears here in the Bay Area. We are stunned….

    March 28th, 2007 | 10:27 pm

I had a friend who suggested a good idea. What if everyone donated a dollar for every vote they made on Devon’s behalf? An easy concept that could make her dream come true. Never under estimate the power of the drool!

If you haven’t been to Daphneyland and you have the chance you should go, when I die, I want to come back as a basset at Daphneyland. That place is truly beautiful beyond what words could ever express.

The time to act is now, think of Devon as the FairyAuntie for all the senior houndies across the world, and even then her heart would still have room for more.

Melinda (almost comatose in Central Ohio)

I can not say in polite company what I think of ABC or that stupid show,Someone should send the guy a can of turtle wax for his head. Who needs hair anyway. I think that that show is a sorry attempt
to keep up with Fox. Devon was wonderful and her
dream is a noble one that can be done without the likes of ABC. If every Drooler donates that voted
she will have her dream. I would like to see every state have a home like Devon wants for the older Hounds. God Bless you Devon , Lets all pray for Devon’s dream to come true without ABC
And lets all show them what the power of drool can do when the Droolers get fired up. Donate, donate, donate I’m going to. Ken

It’s an absolute tragedy. We’ve already sent a letter to Oprah.

    We will OVERCOME!
We will raise the funds anyway!!!
Please spread the word!!! GRANT DEVONS DREAM!
    DONATE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. March 29th, 2007 | 12:52 am

I refuse to believe that America actually voted the bald guy in. There must have been a glitch or ABC made the outcome up.

Did Devon and the hounds get ANYTHING?

  31. Mary & Scully
    March 29th, 2007 | 1:00 am

I am so so sad, and shocked! Congrats and thanks to Devon though for all her efforts. I really hope and believe that with our help, her wonderful dream can still happen!

  32. March 29th, 2007 | 1:08 am

I just found out that Devon didn’t win her wonderful selfless dream…to provide a loving, caring place for such adorable dogs. I am horrified and I hope that the self-centered balding guy sleeps well tonight. Can you imagine when it’s time to meet his Maker and God asks, “So son, what did you do to spread my love on earth during your life?” “Well God, I took lots of money that could have been used to help others and got this cool lookin’ hair weave…after all, it’s just about me!”

  33. March 29th, 2007 | 3:35 am

I had to answer this one, because I know Devon is just to classy to answer it herself…..
    “What did Devon get?”
She was given $40.00 and told “to go out to dinner”
I cannot publicly express my thoughts at this moment.
    That may however change.

I feel so sad for Devon and the hounds. IT is so wrong.

This really makes me sick too. This also kills what little faith I had in people to do the right thing. Hopefully enough people will donate so Devon can still make her dream come true.

To Devon and her Dear Sweet Bassets: We are devastated at the outcome of the show. I watched in disbelief as the winner was announced. What is this country coming to were a man in need of a hair transplant takes the place of an animal who can’t care for itself. Do people not understand that animals have feelings. They cry, they starve, they have anxiety, they have fear, they have happiness and what they give back to us, which is unconditional love is far more priceless that a BALD MAN getting Hair. God Bless you Devon. We are on your side. For all those out there wanting to know how to help go to http://www.firstgiving.com/devonsdream and give. If we all give $25 each Devon will have her money in no time. We are the proud owners of two bassets and we commit time and money to our favorite cause, the Basset Rescue of Old Dominion in Virginia. As Devon would say, help us help them….

    Sincerely The Leamy/Bailey Family

I do not even own a hound – Well I have a lab (guess that counts) But I am DEEPLY disappointed in America – I can not beleive that outcome. I voted via home phone/work lines included and cell phones. I even had people who did not watch the show voting, just becuase…. so you tell me how this happened! I was so nervous I could not even watch Wednesday night…. but Devon you were great and I hope this dream comes true!
