Chaps feels the need to read!

September 6th, 2007 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Lily Book Lovers: The school season has started and Chaps and I are booking his public appearances. I have created a page on my website for it. It is still in progress, but near completion. It is located under Towne Crier, click Public Appearance, click School visits.

http://www.bassethoundtown.com/mainstreet/appearances/schoolvisits.php
If anyone is reading this and knows of a teacher that would like to book us, please pass this link to them. Please keep in mind that we speak to older students as well. We have met with University students to discuss self publishing, graphic design, and photography. (Chaps is a hit for any age group)!

Chaps and I live near Cincinnati. We will travel an hour to a school. To travel much more is too hard on the star.

This is a great way to help basset hound rescue as well. The more books I sell, the more I can give away to rescues and the more awareness will be raised for homeless hounds. Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you. Cat, Chaps and Emma (too jumpy for the small kids)

This just in from Devon – Look at her newest old guy!

September 5th, 2007 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and old hound lovers: Some of you in the basset world have been hearing about this old guy for a few days. He is a mix, a mutt, a basset, a beagle, who knows, but most of all he is a deserving soul reaching out with his eyes to an angel named Nancy.

________________________________________________________

Nancy states,

“As I passed by all the cages, I stopped short when I got to this senior
Beagle/Basset X. There he lay, wet and dirty and huge. He lay with the saddest,
most hopeless look on his face, as though he were already dead. He had
thick goop caked underneath his eyes, not because there was anything wrong with
them, but because never in his whole neglected life had anyone tenderly
cleaned them.

As soon as I saw his obese body, I knew that he was a tied-up outside dog.
Sure enough, when I asked what his history was, he was an owner surrender.
The owner said on his relinquishment form that he was “an outside only dog.”
They had him for five years [five years! How could they sleep after dumping
this dog to end his life at the shelter]. They said that he was “good with
children.”

I knew I had to take him outside to smell the grass, as it might be his last
time, maybe only time he had ever been walked. After a few tentative
steps, I knew that it would take all day before we got outside. So I put him on a
cart, got Laura and we went outside. What a trooper this little guy was.
He just waddled as well as he could, clearly delighted at the new smells.
When I tenderly cleaned the goop from under his eyes, he just stopped and had
the most content look on his face, as though he were thanking me for the
kindness.

Laura and I bathed him. He just loved it; as the years of filth and neglect
washed off his body he just looked like he could stay in the tub forever.
As the dirt and hair came off him he was so happy. He looked tenderly from
Laura to me, clearly knowing that he was being taken care of, probably for the
first time in his life. I hope that he does not die in the shelter, a sad
life with a sadder ending.”

It’s me again, Cat. I am not sure how this all came about, if you want to add anything to this posting just e-mail me, but I think Dawn at Daphneyland put a hold on him and Devon just picked him up! No sadder ending for this guy! He will be on his way to Daphneyland soon, I suspect.

Sweet Basset Girl needs a ride from Louisville KY…….

September 5th, 2007 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and hauling hound lovers: This just in from Bluegrass Basset Rescue. Anyone who can help see Susan’s e-mail below
Hello all! We have been contacted by the Humane Society of Ohio Valley (HSOV) to take in another basset (first one was Harley, who got adopted by the Browns.) They have Sadie, a beautiful black and white tricolor. One of the shelter volunteers can drive her to Cincinnati this weekend. From there we would need to move her southwestward–thru Louisville and Elizabethtown and as close to Murray, KY, as we can get. (She can overnight in Hopkinsville if needed.) She’s been at the shelter for a while and is getting depressed. She has been fully vetted (shots, spay, etc..) and is ready to go home (well, foster care is the best we can do right now…)

If you can help, please email Susan at froggie0310@bellsouth.net
Thanks

Lily Book spotted in School Library!

September 4th, 2007 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Library Lovers: Well, of course she is! My dear friends Audra and Jourdan took Lily to school with them! Audra reports, “This is the book you donated to Jourdan’s School. The kids can’t wait to check it out!”

I am so thrilled to see Lily in a school library in Texas. This means so much to me, you cannot believe it.

3104

How many kids get to enjoy this “tail” of love prior to drifting off? I hope alot.

Did you guys have anything to do with this? I am sure you did. Abby is sporting her pink bandanna and Colby Chaps (Chaps’ son) is the spitting image of his Daddy!

This news is certainly a highlight of my Lily book journey! Thank you so much! I love you guys,

Very interesting update from Dawn of the West

September 4th, 2007 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound Lovers: This just in from Dawn of the West. I found it very interesting about her location. She and the hounds are safe but here is an update on the area.

September 4, 2007 12:34:24 PM EDT

Here is her update:

This is at the fire location, what you are basically looking at is Shambala under attack.
For anyone not familiar with Shambala, it is Tippi Hedrens’s reserve and sanctuary, Lions and Tigers and various exotics.
Our good pal Tia (Villalobos Pit Bull Rescue) also handles exotics, Tia took these photos while awaiting evacuation at Shambala.

Acton is a large animal community, being one of the last places in Los Angeles County where you can have multiple animals, thus here in Acton we have many rescues, kennels, exotic animal rescue and refuges, Tigers, Lions, Panthers, Cougar, horse organizations – even an Elephant Rescue. You name it, and here in Acton they live.

Dawn of the West

Thanks Dawn. We hope all of the animals are safe. Please keep us posted.

We watched the fire for most of the night, it crested in our direction however the winds had died down for the night and it looks like they might have a pretty good handle on this one. Morning fire can be deceivinig tho and the wind is lightly breezing currently, For now things appear to be a lot better.
STay tuned, we have been advised this fire could go for several days….Dawn of the West

Fire updates from the scene
September 3, 2007 9:00:22 PM EDT

The Acton, CA fire – currently at 650+ acres and burning merrily away being fueled by winds and hot weather with thunder and lightening storm activity is in front of us, but is across the 14 freeway. Mandatory evac has been called for Soledad Canyon Rd between Agua Dulce Canyon and Crown Valley Rd.

It is very dry and we have ash fall out and the plume going over us.

Please signup for the updates at Daphneyland@yahoogroups.com (drag this address into an e-mail and sign up) and post your name, all phone numbers and what type of assistance in the event of an emergency that you can offer.

In our local area we have had, flash flooding, lightening and thunder, 2 fires, 3 tornados and 2 earthquakes in the last week. Rather scarey and very weird weather.

Thanks Dawn for the update. You know to keep me posted and I will get your messages on my blog ASAP.

More Later…Hopefully good news…Cat, Chaps and Emma
