Acton Fire 9/2/07 – evacuation for some residents

Greetings all – this was not the update I had planned on sending out.
This will be short and sweet…..

If you have seen the news or radio you know there is a call out for evacuation of Acton – we ARE NOT IN THE IMMEDIATE EVAC AREA. We are however in the path of ash and smoke, although so far not enough to move hounds over.

I would like to ask, if you want to help in the event we need assistance up here, that you join the Daphneyland@yahoogroups.com website, which I have open to all membership currently and you post all contact phone numbers, your name, your area and what you can help with.
Our emergency plan calls for us to load up and move the hounds to the emergency evac area in Tarzana, at which point we will require foster homes until such a time as we could return to the property – this is in an extreme case only as obviously we would NOT stress out the hounds by moving them unless we were in danger.

More likely currently is this: Animal fleeing from the fire, evac area and emergency triage for the local community may require our needing volunteers assistance over the next few days, we are very close to full as we sit, but could possibly be required to help out, and we will do so if we are able. If you have some free time in the next few days while this fire rages, please consider this…. we need help every single day between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., call before getting off the freeway so that we can get the gate open for you, it is not left open except during public hours of Sat & Sun 11 – 5 – outside of those hours the gate is shut and access is not easy. If you have some free time, the hounds will need you. That is true 100% of the time.

Again, WE ARE NOT UNDER EVACUATION AND NOT LIKELY TO BE UNLESS THIS FIRE MOVES A GREAT DISTANCE NORTH!!!

Join the Daphneyland@yahoogroups.com email list as that will make it easy in the event we have to move or evac at some time in the furture, anyone can sound the alarm and we can access all databases from any computer system.

Thank you everyone……
Dawn

500,000 people waiting on the riverfront for nations largest firework show!

September 2nd, 2007 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Show time – 9:00pm Sunday night – 9-2-07riverfest_60.jpg

Howllo Fellow Hound and Fireworks lovers: Every year, for the past 30 years the Ohio River hosts a fireworks show by the famed Rozzi Family.

As of 8:09pm, I cannot find a link for the public. I am trying really hard. It really is a fantastic show and if you attend you will never forget it.

This year, there is a new sponsor, Cincinnati Bell, and they are dedicated to showing the fireworks to the USA troops.

2007 Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Fireworks to be Dedicated to U.S. Troops and going GLOBAL!

CINCINNATI – July 20, 2007 – As the new title sponsor of the WEBN Fireworks, Cincinnati Bell (NYSE:CBB) is doing more than simply sponsoring the annual Cincinnati Labor Day tradition. The hometown company is dedicating the 2007 fireworks event to the men and women of the U.S. armed forces who serve our country locally and worldwide.

“Our troops continually go above and beyond to protect our great country, and this serves as a small way to show our appreciation for their personal sacrifices,” said Jack Cassidy, President and CEO of Cincinnati Bell.

In addition to dedicating the fireworks to the troops, Cincinnati Bell has established opportunities for the Tri-State to give back to these individuals and their families through contributions to the USO. Cincinnati Bell Wireless customers will be able to participate in the “Download for Donations” program and with each purchase of exclusive fireworks ringtones or wallpapers, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the USO. In addition, all official 2007 Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Fireworks T-shirts purchased at a Cincinnati Bell retail store will generate a $1.00-per-shirt contribution to the USO.

“The USO organization has remained steadfast in their mission to support our military personnel and their families, through hospital and other much-needed services. Now our community has a chance to help the USO support those who tirelessly serve our country,” Cassidy explained.

Supporting the USO and its programs is not new for Cincinnati Bell. For the past four years, Cincinnati Bell has been one of the leading sponsors of the USO Riverfest Gala-the country’s largest annual fundraiser supporting the USO Metro-D.C. hospital services at Walter Reed Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital. The USO Riverfest Gala, held at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse, is a patriotic evening that pays tribute to all military personnel and individual honorees who have been recently injured in the line of duty.

The Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Fireworks will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2007, with fireworks viewing areas and activities for all ages on both sides of the Ohio River. Additional information about the USO or how to support Cincinnati Bell’s efforts is available at any Cincinnati Bell retail store. For a list of store locations, visit http://www.cincinnatibell.com/storelocations/

About the USO
The USO is chartered by Congress as a nonprofit charitable corporation and is not part of the United States Government. The President of the United States and the Department of Defense endorse the USO. The mission of the USO is to provide morale, welfare and recreation-type services to uniformed military personnel and their families. The USO currently operates 121 centers around the world, including five mobile canteens, with 68 located in the continental United States, three in the Caribbean and 45 overseas. All proceeds from the Cincinnati USO Riverfest Gala benefit USO Metro-D.C. and help to fund programs and services for soldiers and their families. We had a great day in Rosemary Clooney’s Augusta, KY

September 2nd, 2007 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howello Fellow Hound and Rosemary Clooney Lovers: I am sure many of you know her sweet voice.
It was fun to travel to the historic town of Augusta, yesterday. It is one hour from my home. It is so quaint and sits right on the Ohio River. Chaps and Emma were a HUGE hit. At one point we had about 10 – 15 people gathered around taking pictures and admiring their beauty! (hopefully) Tehehehehehe!

We arrived just in time for a pizza lunch as the 12 person high school marching band proudly paraded down main street. What a treat. Chaps and Emma love pizza and Tubas! Here is a short video of the walk we took after the Labor day weekend event.

Howllo Fellow Hound and Road Trip Lovers: Today, Chaps, Emma, My Mom, and I are going to Augusta, KY as Chaps stated on the home page. Augusta is a river town and about an hour from where I live. Don’t blink, or you will pass right through it! Who remembers Rosemary Clooney? George’s Aunt? Well they made her home into a Museum.

My Mom and I will take turns watching Chaps and Emma as we wonder through her home and view her memorabilia.

There is also a General Store that carries the Lily book. I am taking them a few more. KY is dotted with these cute river towns and it is a beautiful day! Next stop….Rabbit Hatch, where they elected a dog as mayor! Really, Chaps’ isn’t the only canine Mayor!
I will write more about that one later.
