Bassethoundtown.com has a baby!

August 28th, 2007 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Lily Lovers: I have some updated news tonight on bassethoundtown.com’s baby, Lily Summer Rose Browning. Did you know we have a baby that we are going to watch grow up? Well we do!

26903064

Here she is! How cute is she? Miss Baby Lily received her name in a very special way. She is named after Lily Browning, the hound and Mommy Melanie’s heart and soul hound!

Here is part of Melanie’s tribute to Lily, the hound of hearts….

My sweet basset Lily was my heart…she passed in our home this August 10th, 2007. Mack, baby Lily and I were with her when she passed. I held her and told her how much I loved her, I told her we named our first baby girl after her so that she would always be with us. Our little family was there with her when she was cremated in Sweetwater, FL. We brought her ashes home, they are in her favorite spot…the kitchen.

3069
(Lily being silly…she actually slept in the cabinet that afternoon as I was putting drawer liners in the other cabinets and drawers)

Earlier in August her appetite decreased…she could not hold food or water down starting August 5th…which meant she could no longer take her pain killers. I had asked Lily to let me know when it would be time to let her go…I knew I could not make that decision alone. The night of August 9th she sat next to me by the computer, I realized after that she had come to say good-bye…I had pet her and loved on her…the next time I looked down she was gone. Mack found her trying to bury her way under the plumbago bushes…she had been going outside to look for a quiet spot to pass since the 5th…each time, Mack would go find her and bring her back inside. By the 9th, I saw blood in her saliva, her eyes were glassy and her breathing heavy. That night we all slept together in the nursery…the image still warms my heart. Baby Lily was in her crib, Mack, Bella, Olivia, Hannah, Tootsie, Willie, Heidi, basset Lily and I were on a queen sized mattress on the floor. All huddled together. Our vet was on vacation, Mack arranged for a vet to come to our home on Friday the 10th to put her to sleep…it was so difficult to let Lily go

3066

I miss her terribly and am still trying to put the pieces of my heart together again. Lily was kind, gentle, so loving and silly. She was my friend, my companion and the one I would go to for quiet basset time. Lily loved to eat, loved to curl up on the couch next to me, she loved walking on the beach–without a leash. I would take her after hours on Perdido Key. I had a night owl pass, just before the sun set you could find me daily on Perdido Key walking Lily, Bear and Bella. I miss those walks…I miss you Lily…

3074

Love, Melanie, your Mommy. I know you will be watching over us, especially baby Lily.

3056

We will love you forever, your family, Mommy, Baby Lily, Mack (Daddy), Bella, Olivia, Hannah, Tootsie, Willie, and Heidi….

Dear Browning Family, I am honored to showcase this wonderful tribute to such a wonderful hound with such a wonderful story. We are looking forward to watching Lily Summer Rose grow.

Chaps gears up for the school season

August 28th, 2007 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and reading to kids lovers: Chaps is gearing up for the start of the school season. He is booking his appearance schedule as we howl. Chaps will visit schools in the area with me. We will read the Lily book and talk about hounds and hound rescue. I have a place on my website that details all of the information.

http://www.bassethoundtown.com/mainstreet/appearances/

If you know of any schools in the Northern Kentucky, or Cincinnati area that would be interested please pass this link to them. I give 5.00 per book sold to the school. Hey! that’s a good deal! It pays to book the Mayor. Slurp!

292

Thanks for any help you can give us. This is our first full school year and we are very excited about it. We have already booked a few schools, and we will share our experiences with you.

Oh, one more thing. Are you wondering why Emma does not go? She is my wild child. She can actually jump clear over a child’s head while lunging for a hair ribbon. The teachers might not like that!

2 of the OMBR 24 check in with bassethoundtown!

August 27th, 2007 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow hound and OMBR 24 lovers: I just received a few pictures from Rose who adopted Fred and Annie, formerly Fanny Mae. Rose reports that they are doing great and Annie is coming out of her shell. 3079

This is Rose with Fred on the left and Annie. What a great looking pack. Several weeks ago they were both sweltering in the weeds of an AK puppy mill. OMBR came to the rescue.

3076

Wow, time changes everything along with a healthy dose of love!

This picture is of Rose’s sister Helen, aka Godmother!

Thank you so much for the pictures and the update. We will look forward to our next installment in the life and times of your pack!

The SPCA of TN sends bassethoundtown a plea!

August 26th, 2007 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and homeless hound helpers: Last night my e-mail was poppin’! Celina Weissenborn SPCA of TN Founder & President needs help. Will you please read her plea and see what you can do to help. I know alot of people read my blog, so we are hoping someone will be touched by this and find some time for these hounds. I just love the Internet and how we can get information out so quickly. Here is Celina’s plea!

The SPCA of TN saves all animals in need but Bassets are my passion. Let me tell you about the Bassets. Bonnie and Clyde were in LA shelter and Looziana Basset Rescue couldn’t take them and Leslie e-mailed me if I could help them. I found a nice lady who pulled them for me and they are at the vet in LA and the lady can keep them for a short period of time but I will need somebody who can foster them for me in Nashville to bring them near me.

Karen from The New England Basset Rescue and I work as a team to help the Bassets in the South.

According to Dr. Saks they have great temperament and they love each other. I would love for them to be adopted together, but in the meantime I would like to find a foster home for them.

They are UTD on all shots including Bortadella, they both are altered and got dentals. They are HW negative. They are on HW preventative and frontline.

Details: Bonnie – has a wonderful temperament, altered, UTD in all shots including Bortadella and she got a dental. Bonnie is between 5-6 years old and she was found as stray with Clyde. Bonnie was going to be PTS tomorrow 8/27 and we got her on 8/23 from the shelter.
I NEED A FOSTER HOME FOR HER, IDEALLY WITH CLYDE, HER BOYFRIEND.

CLYDE

Details: Clyde as well as Bonnie has a wonderful temperament and he got altered all shots and he got a dental and he is UTD in all shots including Bortadella. Clyde was found as a stray with Bonnie. I NEED A FOSTER HOME FOR CLYDE. I WOULD LOVE FOR BONNIE AND CLYDE TO BE FOSTERED TOGETHER BECAUSE THEY ARE REALLY BONDED ACCORDING TO MELISSA AND THE VET!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Next we have: Danielle, Catherine and Nicholas are in a HIGH KILL SHELTER in TN and Leanne Potts from Belly Rubs Basset Rescue in Knoxville asked me if I could help. Karen and I have agree to take these 3 Bassets and we will be boarding them but we need a foster homes for them.
Details: Danielle is being pulled from a HIGH KILL SHELTER in Jefferson County, TN by my friend Leanne Potts who is with Belly Rubs Basset Rescue. She is 8-10 years old and she will be vetted in Knoxville and be at the vet until foster home is found.
Details: Nicholas is being pulled from a HIGH KILL SHELTER IN Jefferson County TN with Danielle and Catherine. He will be vetted in Knoxville at the same clinic until a foster home is found. Nicholas is 5-6 years old I believe he is a Basset/Golden Retriever mix! A Golden Basset!
Cathy, please post this as well.
I just got 6 Bassets from AR who were in 100 degrees weather and they are now with me and 3 are getting treated fro HW and 4 need to be altered. I just got another one from Williamson County in TN. I just need help with all Basset lovers to help us foster these babies until a forever home is found. Karen and I love seniors and we would love for all these Bassets to get a chance to be loved and have a family who can spoil them rotten.
Foster homes can contact Celina Weissenborn at spcaoftennessee@comcast.net or call me at 615-354-3531. Our website is www.spcatn.org
=======Cat here========
OK, let’s see what we can do. Anyone who is reading this and is in the area or knows someone in the area, please pass this blog to them. Wow, that Bonnie and Clyde really tug at the ole heart strings. Also, that Golden basset is just the cutest. Well, they all are. Needy souls all. I will update everyone as I receive any news.
