We the undersigned, ask for justice for the Davis family. Please charge, and prosecute, Christopher Delawder, for the unlawful shooting of Babyboy, a beloved member of the Davis family.
On the evening of Saturday June 28, 2008, the family of Terri Davis’, lives were changed. Their little bassett hound, Babyboy, slipped out of the safety of his backyard. Moments later a neighbor came to the Davis’ front door to report their precious little dog was hurt. Another neighbor, Christopher Delawder, had shot and killed Babyboy.
Surrounded by a crowd of people, Terri picked up his lifeless little body screaming to God, as tears ran down her face. At that point she didn’t know how babyboy had died.
They brought him home and it was then, as they looked him over, that they found the bullet hole.
Christopher Dewayne Delawder was part of the crowd that surrounded Terri. He was asking if, “Anyone had seen anything.” In other words, he was acting like he had no knowledge of the shooting. When the police arrived he lied to them.
It was after Mr. Delawder contacted his attorney, (2 hours later) he admitted to shooting the Davis family dog. His excuse? He stated he had every right to shoot the dog to protect his cats.
It is suspected that his cats, (if there really are any) are locked in an unventilated box in his backyard. In which case, not only is he guilty of a crime by shooting the dog, he is also guilty of animal abuse.
Alabama state law made it a class C felony in the year of 2001:
Title 13A. Criminal Code. Chapter 11. Offenses Against Order and Safety. Article 1. Offenses Against Public Order and Decency. § 13A-11-14. Cruelty to animals. Section 13A-11-240. Definitions. Section 13A-11-241. Cruelty in first and second degrees.
13A-11-14. Cruelty to Animals.
(a) A person commits the crime of cruelty to animals if, except as otherwise authorized by law, he intentionally or recklessly:
(1) Subjects any animal to cruel mistreatment; or
(2) Subjects any animal in his custody to cruel neglect; or
(3) Kills or injures without good cause any animal belonging to another.
(b) Cruelty to animals is a Class B misdemeanor.
(Acts 1977, No. 607, p. 812, § 5565.)
13A-11-240. Definitions.
(a) The word “torture” as used in this article shall mean the act of doing physical injury to a dog or cat by the infliction of inhumane treatment or gross physical abuse meant to cause said animal intensive or prolonged pain or serious physical injury, or thereby causing death due to said act.(b) The word “cruel” as used in this article shall mean: Every act, omission, or neglect, including abandonment, where unnecessary or unjustifiable pain or suffering, including abandonment, is caused or where unnecessary pain or suffering is allowed to continue.
(c) The words “dog or cat” as used in this article shall mean any domesticated member of the dog or cat family.
(Act 2000-615, p. 1252, § 1.)
This petition is to urge the magistrate and police of Odenville, AL to take action. Help us bring the town of Odenville, Alabama, to task, for failing to uphold the law.

Oh, my. I ran across this only by a Google Alert to your website, Cat. I’m just a blubbering mess after reading and watching this sad story about Babyboy. I’ve signed the petition, and hope this moron is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. My heart just breaks for Babyboy’s family….you can SEE the connection between Becca and Babyboy….
We are sending heart-healing drool to Babyboy’s family and know that Babyboy is whole again at the Bridge with other Basset Hounds who have welcomed him with their loving angel wings.
I agree with you Janet but he was whole before that low life shot him. He needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and in my book, then some.

hy friends ,i just googled chris delewder and found this page. i was babyboys mother.this has been the worst thing ever to go through.my daughter becca has really been affected by this terrible act of violence.i have a page on care2 as well that exsplains everything in detail.to this date hes still not been arrested.the police are affraid of a law suit.i believe mr.dewlawder has filed lawsuits agianst people in the past for petty things and they know his reputation.there really mad at me for telling my story on line.i am still contacting inportant people to see what can be done.i want to say thank you to all for being so supportive ,we miss our babyboy very much ,i dont think ill ever get over it.

This person is a sick piece of trash that needs to pay for what he has done. If the local police will not act then how about the State ? Another idea is to get the ASPCA and Human Society involved. A write in campaign to them just might do the trick.They have Investigators also and can File charges themselves with the State Attorney. Ken

great news ,the police came to my home today and said ill have my day in court to speak my side of babyboys story. i started crying when he was telling me this.i have made several calls and was contacting the d.a. in our county. and i think they got word of it. i told them when this happened i would not let this go.i have a little more info but cant really put it on here. so on sept.4th will be the day! i got alot of stuff to get together. thanks for all the support!

I have known Mr Delawder for a long time. It is not his personality to cause harm to anything. Without reason. The Picture you paint of him is a monsterous individual with no regard for life. This is simply not the case.
He should not have to pay to have a fence put around his property to keep other peoples animals out. As a pet owner, there are responsibilities that come with that. Including keeping your animals at home.
In a post you stated that you had to get in a truck and drive down the street to retrieve the dog. If that is the case you were not taking responsibility as a pet owner. If your pet was that far away.
If in fact his ( his wife’s) cats were in a box in the backyard. I am sure it was well ventilated and to keep dogs and such from harming them.
If you are speaking on this or any forum without facts about Mr Delawder or his character you could be subject to a lawsuit. Are you aware of that?
Lastly, I think it is in poor taste that you would photo shop your animals photograph into a background intended as a memorial for our Vets killed in combat to preserve our freedom.
I think it is only fair to hear from both sides.

I am sick on my neighbors dogs running loose and using the bathroom in my yard constantly! They have already been picked up by the dog people and paid over $200 to get them back. KEEP YOUR DOGS UP!!! this is not fair to others. I am not defending Mr Delawder, I also know him, but maybe he was sick of the dogs. I shoot at my neighbors dogs with bb guns, until they keep them out of my yard. One guys dogs are so vicious they actually have killed several dogs in our neigborhood. come on people TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR DOGS!

Strays are a big problem in the city. When you call to complain they will tell you that we are using Birmingham’s animal control people and that they only come out once a week for a couple of hours. I for one am not going to let a stray dog or even an unleashed dog that is not a stray destroy my property or threaten my children. I will pay the fines and if necessary I’ll do the time but the discharging a firearms ordnance will continue to be broken as needed. I have no problem with animals but if I wanted one in my yard then I would own one. People, keep your animals out of my yard if you want to keep them alive. I think I’ll change my screen name to “petvigilante”.

Hi, I know this thread is very old but I recently visited the Davis family and the man that killed Babyboy lives 5 houses down from them on the other side of the street, their house is a little higher up and Terri had a foot injury, that is why she was driven , also , her friend was trying to spare her the trauma of running down the street and seeing Babyboy in the street alone. I have read the court transcripts and Mr.Christopher Delawder admits he could have done other things to scare Babyboy away if he really was, in fact, afraid for his property.He did not have to shoot him in the back, this is a basset hound for Gods sake , not a vicious dog,people like this simply don’t deserve to live.
I agree – Kill the bastard! I hope he dies a slow and painful death. Delawder is a scab and scum. This idiot, moron, retard, imbecile, misfit, reject, lower than shit on the bottom of a boot piece of shit. I hope he dies a suffering death. I am proud to crap all over his name. DELAWDER SUCKS!
