United Rescues of Kentucky needs your signature!

October 22nd, 2008 - 7:07 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and helping hound lovers: I received an e-mail asking for my signature on the below petition. This is kind of a long post, but as you will see, well worth the read.

I have personally worked with Delsie of
Hilltop Haven Animal Rescue and Halfway House on several occasions in the recent past. Without Delsie, more than a dozen basset hounds would have been lost to high kill KY shelters not to mention the countless other souls she has saved along with her family. Why is it, in this time of chaos, are folks like this called into to question? For the love of God, we should be supporting and caring for these souls while they do the work, for the most part, no one else wants to do, especially in KY. As a state, we are in desperate need of people like this.

Delsie Williams, owner of Hilltop Haven Animal Rescue and Halfway House in Coxs Creek, Kentucky desperately needs our help and support. Delsie has been called to appear before The Joint City-County Planning Commission on November 13, 2008 as a result of a complaint lodged against her for “running a business” on her property in violation of the area’s ordinances.
The only thing Delsie is “running” is herself into the ground and her finances into bankruptcy on behalf of the animals! Delsie, a member of United Rescues of Kentucky, has been a “lifesaver” for our group and for animals throughout her association with its members.
It’s impossible to count the number of lives Delsie has saved at NO CHARGE as she has temporarily held animals waiting to be transported to their rescue groups.
Delsie and her husband use their personal resources to do this work with an occasional small donation for food or gas that comes nowhere close to covering the expenses they incur. In addition, the Williams’ drive animals long distances, using their vehicle and their gas, to ensure they arrive safely at rescues, fosters and adoptive homes.
Should the Joint City-County Planning Commission refuse to grant Delsie a “conditional usage” permit, the loss to our animal rescue community will be immeasurable. Hundreds of dogs will be euthanized that otherwise would have had a chance at a new life vie Delsie’s Halfway House.
PLEASE JOIN ME IN SUPPORTING DELSIE BY SIGNING THIS PETITION, WHICH WILL BE SENT TO THE COMMISSION PRIOR TO THEIR HEARING.

Now for the best part. Want to see an e-mail I got from Delsie a few days ago?

START OF E-MAIL FROM DELSIE:

This wouldn’t have been possible without you!!! Don’t you just love a happy ending!!! Thanks, Delsie.

(Then she attached an e-mail she had just received so I could read it)

Hi all,
Arden is doing great. She has a few nicknames now. We call her Ardie Mae or Mae Mae. We call her Arden if she is doing something she shouldn’t be doing. She fit in so great here, her and Buddy love to play so much. It was so good for him also, she wears him down. It really surprised us that there were no fights. The only thing that happened is that Buddy let her know that she is not to get near his food or him while he is sleeping. All he did was growl at her that first time and she knew not to do it again. We were just so amazed at how Buddy took to her because he is so stubborn and it was always about him. But they are so good together. Lucy took longer to warm up to her, at first she would just ignore her, now she will bathe on Ardie and mother her. She is very sneaky when it comes to feeding time. She will eat her food then sneak around the furniture waiting on the others to finish hoping they will leave something for her. We are so happy with her, she is so lovable and loves to cuddle. Thank you again for rescuing her and letting us adopt her. I sent a few pics of her. Hope you like. Take care and talk to you soon. Robyn (Arden’s new forever Mom)

End of Email……….

I will keep everyone updated on our KY friends.

Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I signed it and told them that every animal saved by them is one less that animal control has to deal with and that is a savings to the County. Ken
