Chaps and Emma visit the Alley Page from the Lily Book

December 28th, 2008 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and windy walk lovers: Yesterday Chaps, Emma, Grandma and I took a walk in the more than pleasant 70 weather. It was a windy day, and this picture says it all!

This is one of my all time favorite pictures. Look how cute their ears look blowing in the wind. Just priceless.

Right behind them is the alley way in the Lily book!

I always thought that this alley way looked like a good place for a stray dog to tuck into. It still looks basically the same. What do you think?

You can click the picture to get a huge version. It might take longer to load on some computers.

After about an hour’s walk we headed home with Emma leading the way! She is just so cute. She was in the lead for most of our walk. No one is going to pass her up!

Mommy fixed dinner and then it was time to call it an early night. The kids were exhausted.

It’s hard to think that some kids don’t have nice warm beds like this and have to find a place to tuck into. I try to do what I can to help any stray. I still cannot believe that my Lily was a stray. I cannot imagine her fending for herself, but by Goodness she did. She was a little scrapper when she wanted to be and she fiercely defended our home.

For the first few months that I had her she always napped laying by the door with her ears cupped liked megaphones. I knew that this is how she slept on the streets so she could hear anything coming. I don’t think she took a deep sleep for quite awhile.

It was fun to re-visit the alley yesterday. I think all that wind blowing was Lily coming to visit from the bridge. Maybe that is why the ears blowing in the wind picture is now one of my all time favorites.

Thank you dear girl…………..

More wind blowing later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Cat….those pictures are so cute. Thank you for showing the Alley way photo, now I will think of this everytime I see that page. I can’t believe you found Lily, of course I can’t believe we found Abby either. How they change our lives. Abby still has a very different personality from her past life — we work through it everyday, but I am still so blessed to have her in our life. My favorite photo…..Emmers leading the way on the walk!

Thanks friends. I am so glad I posted that. The Lily book has so many meanings to me. There are about 50 on each page. That alley is about a five minute walk from my home. It always fascinated me as a child.

That photo of Emma leading the way reminds me of my favorite line of the Lily book – “We’re off like a herd of turtles”. That use to be my grandma’s favorite saying and I laughed out loud when I read it in Lily’s book.

Those were beautiful pictures. I can’t wait to hear on things turn out Monday with Homer. Travel safe!

That was a very touching post. It brought me close to tears when I read the part about the wind and a sign from Lily. She was so lucky to have you in her life. Just beautiful!

I hate to think of any dog abandoned and left to fend for themselves. There is no excuse for this kind of behaviour. There are so many places to help and that won’t be judgmental. In the future, if I ever want to adopt and I also encourage others to try rescues first. I think dogs from rescues give even more love.

I totally agree with you Maureen. I saw it first hand with Lily.

Candy – I got that line from my Dad. He has to herd 4 girls out the door. When we were little he always said that. The when we got home he would say, “Everyone out of the pool”! LOL
