2009 kicks off with a pressing question???

Howllo Fellow Hound and Pressing Question Lovers:

This morning I received an e-mail from Justin, one of our residents. He asked me a pressing question. “How long are Chaps’s ears?”

Hummmmmmmm???? I really do not know how to answer because I do not know how to measure. I think this is something we all need to get straight and be on the same page about. Don’t you?

Do you measure from the inside out?

If so, do you stretch the ear? Where do you put the ruler, on the skull where the ear attaches?

Or do you measure from the outside down?

This is not the best picture but does one put the ruler at the top where the ear attaches and then measure downward while a helper is holding the ear out?

Or do you measure while the hound is in the resting position, taking a tape measure and following from where the ear connects to the head then to the tip of the ear?

I am confused and I think we need a policy manual on this. In the past many a hound has claimed to have the longest ears. However, we do not know the measuring technique!!!!!

One thing is for sure, we do not want to measure when the hound is in the alert position!

That would not do at all!

Justin, my dear friend and resident, I will have to get back to you on this one. I need to call in the experts on this question and then I will officially make it bassethoundtown law! We can call it:

BASSET HOUND EAR MEASURING AND THE CORRECT AND FUNDAMENTAL WAYS OF MEASURING SAID HOUND’S EARS FOLLOWING THE AGREED AND ALLOWED UPON METHOD AS REVIEWED, TESTED AND APPROVED BY THE THE BHT BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND SUB COMMITTEES CORRESPONDING WITH THE APPROVAL OF SAID GOVERNMENTAL BODIES WE SHALL HEAR BY MAKE THIS LAW!

Sounds good to me? Anyone got any ideas?

More committee meetings later! Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I think you should measure from ear tip to ear tip, kinda like a wing span. That would give each hound the benefit of the doubt. Chaps certainly will fare well in this contest.

I am going to do some research over the weekend and report my findings back to the committee! Good Idea Josh. I will try that!

Slinky thinks you should measure from the outside tip of one ear to the outside tip to the other ear to determine a Basset’s earspan, including the head. I am not sure, but I think Jason the Hush Puppy Basset’s ears were measured in this fashion.

Also, Slinky thinks she give the Mayor a run for his earspan!

    With respect, of course!
