Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Old Comic Lovers: I was going through some very old stuff yesterday, looking for, well old stuff and I ran across this comic from the Wall Street Journal from 1995. I had cut it out and saved it. It sure made me smile again and I am betting it will do the same for you!

Sunday morning nappee poo……..

April 5th, 2009 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Nappee Poo lovers!

Wow, It’s Sunday morning and the road in front of us is still very long. I have to give my Mom and I, A+ for our efforts. I am sure we can keep it up. We still have about 6 more weeks of recovery.

This morning when I woke up this is what I saw. I sleep with my camera on the stand next to me.

img_0649

Look how cute that rear end is standing up. Who knew those short little legs would be so important in making my day! Then she turned around and this is what I saw.

img_0654

Mommy, I’m hungry! After breakfast and a physical therapy session it was time for our Emma’s Sunday morning nappee poo………

Grandma got her into bed and made sure she had her blankee.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Snood Lovers!

Have you guys seen this video I did back in October of 2006? I just had to show it to you again. A fan from Japan sent Chaps and Emma these snoods. I was very touched by her snood gifts and made this video. I have not watched it for years. I love seeing old, classic movies! Hehehehehe

Beautiful pink dolphin spotted….Meet Pinky!

April 4th, 2009 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Pink Dolphin Lovers: I cannot believe I have not heard of this sighting, but I caught this on the Today Show this morning. I could not see the footage because I was in bed with Chaps giving him some good ole lovins. I figured I could google it, which I just did.

article-1158494-03b7c744000005dc-485_634x425

The reports on the Today Show said that the dolphin is an albino and the color could be from the blood showing through the translucent skin.

These are the stunning pictures of a rare pink bottlenose dolphin spotted swimming in a Louisiana lake. The dolphin is referred to as Pinky.

The mammal was pictured by local charter boat captain Erik Rue, who has been studying the dolphin since it first surfaced in Lake Calcasieu, an inland saltwater estuary, north of the Gulf of Mexico in Southwestern USA.

Since it was spotted with its pod of normal coloured dolphins last year the animal has been wowing visitors on the lake.

Capt Rue, 42, originally saw the dolphin, which also has reddish eyes, swimming with a pod of four other dolphins, with one appearing to be its mother which never left its side.

There is a species of what is called “pink dolphin” that lives in South America in the Amazon river. This sighting in Louisiana, however, is considered rare because it appears to be a bottlenose dolphin but pink ones are virtually never seen.

Marine Biologist Dagmar Ferti told ESPN that it was an albino calf and that bottlenose calves don’t have much blubber so the the blood circulating under the skin is more visible, especially if the calf had been working hard to swim. He said this sighting was only the third that he knows of in the Gulf of Mexico. There have been 13 total sightings dating back to 1962.
There is also a species of Humpback dolphin called the Indo-Pacific Humpback dolphin found mostly in Southeast Asia. Some of them have pink-colored skin because of blood vessels used for keeping the body temperature cool during exertion.

Well, that is the jest of what I found on the internet for your reading pleasure.

Back when I had my precious Lily, I used to call her my bottlenose dogfin. She always reminded me of one of those beautiful creatures.

Chaps and Emma get some time together!

April 3rd, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and time together lovers:

Well, all went without a hitch on this front and once again I was surprised by what happened. Keep in mind that Chaps is watching Emma every step of the way and Emma knows that he is right on the other side of the gate, they kiss many times a day. The purpose of the separation is to keep Emma from not jumping and getting too excited. Also, when Chaps enters the area she is in, he will automatically jumps on the couch which entices her to do the same. Also, Chaps wants to play. Poor boy.

However, what I found interesting, is when he entered her recovery room he was adement to go right into the ladies room.

img_0561

Look at the concern on his face. He was frantic to protect Emma with his manly smells and once again, I dropped the ball on that one. He wanted his scent all over where she was going potty to ward off any other dogs who might be in the area.

img_0540

He went potty right by the gate. Chaps never uses the ladies room and I know that he was trying to protect her. He also went poo poo potty in this exact same spot on his way back in. (I refrained from that picture)! LOL

When he entered the recovery room he went straight for her bed and rubbed his scent all over it.

img_0557

As he was doing this he picked up the toy that Cindy sent and pitched it over to her to play with. It was if he was on a mission. I am still kicking myself for not realizing that Chaps had more purpose and thought in his brain than any human.

Next he focused on Emma. He swooped over to her. This picture is not that good, but we were all frantic thinking he might knock her down. That is me holding her up with her towel sling.

img_0544

Next he kissed her. I cannot believe my Mom captured it. Those are Grandpa’s legs on the other side of the gate watching and gently talking to them.

img_0537

Next, Mommy gave them a treat together.

img_0578

Then another kiss………

img_0580

Then, just like clock work, Chaps jumped on the couch. We held our breath as Emma tucked into her bed, on her own.

img_0598

Sometimes you just have to listen to an Alpha male Mayor and not the doctor. Today’s lesson was better than any class I have ever taken. My heart is so full.

OK, Emma got a bit restless and wanted on the couch later, but Chaps was satisfied and left the area. I blockaded the couch and tomorrow he can mark his territory again.

That is just how life goes………one baby marking at a time!

More protecting later………..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Is there such a thing as a slight fiasco?

April 3rd, 2009 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow Basset Hound and Emma exercising more lovers:

Well, it was a bit hairy and scary at times with all of the excitement but all went pretty well. Grandma and I had a plan to exercise Emma a bit more now that she is getting better. She cannot be on hard wood floors so I set her up a carpet runway of sorts. We wanted to do this first to kind of tire her out before getting with her best friend, our Mayor, Chaps. The plan was to walk her down the runway in her sling and back a few times.

img_0527

As soon as we started out of her holding tank she went crazy veering off the carpeted runway and making a mad dash to her beloved bed. My idea was a complete bust and Emma had to be hoisted into the bed to avoid injury. I was just besides myself and realized I had made a big mistake by trying this exercise. Of course we let her lay in her bed and relax. She was crying and loving her bed and we were so upset that we had to get her back off after a short time. I had no idea she was going to be so determined to get into her bed. Wow, I really missed the mark on this exercise. All is OK and we got her back into her safe area with a few beloved french fries. Whew………

She took a short nap and then we let Chaps in to see her. I am still loading those pictures and I will have them up in a new blog posting shortly.

That endevor went without a hitch and was a great way to get Emma’s spirits back up. She was a bit depressed she had to leave the comfort corner of her huge doggie bed.

I felt like a real heel. She was not ready to do that much exercise and was way to excited.

Oh well, live and learn from my mistakes. If you are reading this for back surgery information. Do not get too over ambitious with your hound’s recovery. We are nine days out and she is making great progress but this is an eight week recovery process.

More soon with some better blogging news! Here is a preview, Chaps was such a good boy!

Emma’s Homecoming Poem

April 3rd, 2009 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Emma Homecoming Poem Lovers:

When Emma came home our friends Maureen and Slinky wrote her a poem. I am going to post it here for everyone to enjoy. I printed a copy for Emma’s recovery room and we enjoy reading it. Here it is! We really love it…………

Emma’s Homecoming Poem

Hello, my name is Our Emma, I am a Basset Hound.
Some people say I am short and low to the ground.

Even though I am blind, I still enjoy running, playing and sniffing around.
Humans are amazed that I see with my heart, soul and sound.

My best friend Chaps is the Mayor of Basset Hound Town,
I help him keep things running so nothing breaks down.

I recently had surgery for my back discs.
I went through it with flying colors even though there was some risk.

Now I am recovering with a lot of attention and rest.
My doctor and physical therapist are quite impressed.

On Saturday, I will go home, but I still have some therapy to do,
Before I can consider myself through.

When I have fully recovered, I will be able to swing and sway
With my well-rounded bottom and sweet sassy sashay.

MAUREEN AND SLINKY……

img_0394
This is the day she came home which was a red letter day and today is the day she get’s to be with her Chaps, another red letter day!

Thank you so much Maureen and Slinky – we really love all you do for us.

Emma in her gilded cage…….

April 3rd, 2009 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and gilded/wrought iron cage lovers: Well, today is a big day. Emma’s is going to be around Chaps for a bit. The doctor did not want them together until her staples came out, but based upon her good progress he said that as long as Chaps does not excite her too much they can visit with supervision. They are together all day long but seperated by a wrought iron gate. Every morning, noon, and night they touch noses and kiss. I was making their breakfast this morning and when I went to give Emma hers this is what I saw.

img_0525

This is Emma’s gilded/wrought iron cage. The couch is where I sleep at night and to the right outside of the gate area is where Chaps sleeps so he can see us. Emma is laying on her bed, but you really can’t make it out too well.

I am looking foward to our get together later today. You know I will have pictures. It has been 9 days since Emma’s surgery. The recovery period is 8 weeks. I talked to her therapist today and she said that Emma should never go down or up steps again. Does that seem a bit extreme to anyone? Just wondering.

I want to thank everyone for all of the comments and well wishes. They mean the world to us. I have been so consumed with our Emmers that I have not been able to blog about much else besides her. Not, that there has not been a lot to say! LOL

You get the picture! LOL

Well, today’s show are scenes from last night. The air is cool. I am outside in what we call the ladies room cleaning Emma’s potty area. I left the sliding glass door open so she could get some fresh air. I am sweeping up twigs and I look over and who is standing next to me? Our Soap Star, Emma!

img_7996
This is not last night, just a picture so you can see what the area looks like….

Standing on all 4 paws and wagging her tail. I held my breath because I was afraid my gasp would knock her over. She decided she had enough and turned right around, took a tinkle, and walked back in to her bed. It was a stagger but she did it all on her own!

I have decided to give up the internet……..

April 1st, 2009 - 7:07 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Internet lovers:

I have decided to make a life change.

I no longer feel the need to be on the Internet and I want to get as far away from it as possible.

Everyone knows what good deals there are in housing and I have found my dream home.

There is just one small problem.

I cannot bring the hounds.

Oh, I am sure they will be well taken care of.

Grandma and Grandpa are very good to them.

Wanna see a picture of my new home?

It’s a little fixer upper off the coast of no where’s ville.

Just perfect for me and my need not to communicate!

A P R I L F O O L S!!!!!!!!!!!

I know, pretty lame huh? Me leaving the kids was a dead give away.

Actually, today 12 years ago, I bought the dog house we live in. I absolutely love it and when I fixed it up I did every thing with basset hounds in mind. This home is very lucky to have these wonderful souls in every nook and cranny.

Be careful out there folks. Don’t get fooled…………
