Remember Richard? If not I can refresh your memory!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Richard the stray lovers: If you don’t remember Richard, let me refresh your memory. Here is a blog posting I did about him on 4-16-09.
CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS??? VERY LONG POST FOR A NEEDY BOY NAMED RICHARD IN TX
So, this past weekend I get an e-mail from Audra with the subject line,
“Richard finds a forever home!!!!!!!!”
I was shocked because I know how attached he is to her Mom. Audra’s Mom, Charlene, is the one fostering Richard as you have just read in the blog posting above.
Audra and I have been exchanging e-mails about him for months. He is attached to her like glue to paper. Even when he is sleeping he will wake up just to make sure she is still sitting on the couch. So, I was a bit concerned, but I totally trust their screening process and I know Richard will be fine.
So, here is the e-mail………
Start of e-mail!
Hi Cat…….your not going to believe this, but Richard has found a FOREVER HOME!!!!! It is the most wonderful home ever. More love than he could ever imagine. He will be so well cared for and able to live out the rest of his life in a home and held in the arms of a lady that loves him with all of her heart.
YES — My Mom has declared it………Richard’s home is with her!!!!! I think she knew it the minute they found each other. He has been in love with her ever since she rescued him from the horrible life he knew, and now his only purpose in life is to love her and stay by her side……this wonderful lady that showed him compassion, love and hope for a future is all Richard wants and needs.
Now he will spend his days following her around, and sleeping by her side and taking leisurely walks with his roommates Bailey and Clancy. Oh, life is good!!!!!
My Mom only wishes everyone would give an older Basset (like Richard) a second thought when adopting or looking for that ‘special’ companion…….they don’t know what their missing she says. And, if ONLY that horrible owner that Richard had, knew what a wonderful blessing he is in her life now!!!!!! I guess God knew, because he led Richard straight to her. Don’t you just love happy endings!!!!!
We love you……and thank you for all your help! ~Audra, Charlene and Richard
What a happy beginning for Richard and his new family. I am just bursting with joy for them and the grand message they send about adopting a Sr. They really are the most wonderful creatures on earth.
Welcome Home Richard! Slurp! YES!
More wonderful creatures later……Cat, Chaps and Emma
End of e-mail……….
I almost cried! I was so scared that he was adopted out and he may not be as happy as he is right where he’s at. And wow…didn’t Richard turn out to be a pretty boy!? Congrats to Audra’s Mom! Sorry, I don’t know her name.
That is wonderful news!!! You are one lucky boy Richard!
I was scared too as I was reading this! How wonderful for Richard! Thank you Charlene!
I was freaked out and then I laughed. Audra really had me going! It would have been a great April Fools Day gag!
I cannot wait to hear more about Richard. Can you believe how big his paws are?
Cat
He is all paws isn’t he? Too cute!
Oh sniffle sniffle SNIFF!
I adopted Bailey when she was seven years old. She fit right in and had no issues whatsoever.
My next Basset will be a senior.
The puppy stage is cute, but too much work.
What a wonderful outcome for Richard, who is a gorgeous gentleman!! I cried when I read this awesome news:)…Thank you, Audra and her mom!
Mary, Harley, Biggs and Leo
I did cry reading this for it has a beautiful ending. Thank you for sharing the update and the wonderful photo’s of Richard and his new furever Mommy. May God bless you all.
What a handsome fellow, but this is why I believe and promote rescue adoptions of older Bassets. There are so many advantages for everyone involved.
What a match made in heaven! Congrats to all.
Congrats to all
Nice story and Richard is not the only lucky one. Looks like I’ve got my clearance from the boss-wife to start fostering bassets. I’m really looking forward to it. I work from home but my work may suffer cuz I’ll need to keep the visitors happy. 😉
