Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Holding Tank….Haters???

OMG! I had to put Chaps and Emma in a “Holding Tank” when a worker come over today. Keep in mind the holding tank is a small room full of beds, couches and soft pillows!

My printer died yesterday and I called a doctor to come fix it. My printer is from the 1990s! can you believe it? The printer got fixed, but the hounds howled the entire time!

IMG_4384

You can see Chaps, being a hang dog, hound dog! He did not howl as much as Emma who is slightly obscured.

Here is a shot of them over the gate area!

Very dapper indeed! Thanks Grandpa and all of the others who are celebrating this day.

Right after I did this blog posting, I received an e-mail from Julian. He wrote something in school today called…..

To a Veteran

To a Veteran,
You are the core of American spirit. You are the very meaning of our freedom and protection. Without you, this country would be wiped out of history and into denial. Your occupation is the most difficult to achieve of any in the history of our world. But you still chose to fight. Because of this, may you find serenity in your friends, family, and the very country you are giving your life to protect.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Chloe Lovers! I just love this old picture of Chloe. Look how white her face is. The blue and white blankee she is under was her most treasured possession.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Nephew Lovers! For some reason I do talk (aka brag) about my nephew Henry too much. I opened a letter my sister sent with some fun items. Look at this!

IMG_4371

My Nephew takes Mandarin Chinese and is making an A+! Nin or Henry, if you see this blog posting, what does this say? That has got to be one hard subject. Plus, Henry is in the drum line.

IMG_4374

One thing I know for sure is those Southern States take their drum lines very seriously.

Just as seriously as hounds wanting to sleep with boys when they visit. Hope to see you soon Henry…..

I just got this update from Cesar Millan. Howl cool, November is Adopt a Senior month!

November 8th, 2009 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset hound and Cesar followers. First off I have to say that I know many of you who read my blog are lovers of Seniors, especially our beloved HopPers. So, when I really enjoyed reading this update from Cesar.

I like getting Cesars updates and I found this one very interesting. I really like some of his wisdom. I also really like Daddy, his Sr. Pit Bull. I will be very honest, I am not a fan of the pit bull. I will just leave it at that, but, I like how he helps them.

Cesar and Daddy

Here is his posting…..Senior Dog Month: Find Your Own Daddy!

November 8, 2009

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and I can’t think of a better way to honor a dog’s life than to give it a balanced and loving home in its twilight years. I’ve spoken before about the benefits of adopting a senior dog: they have a much calmer energy, require less strenuous exercise and less often, and are most often already housebroken. They can also be invaluable tools for attempting to balance other dogs in your pack. Nothing beats a senior dog when it comes to showing younger dogs how it’s done! Daddy has filled that role for me for many years, and I hope that I can expect many more.

Adopting a senior dog is a noble decision in another important way, too. In many shelters and rescues across the country, senior dogs are the first to be euthanized. Between an adorable, young puppy and a seasoned old veteran, the decision is almost always made in favor of cute faces and tiny, tumbling bodies. Most people don’t want to deal with the extra care and commitment that comes with adopting an older dog, despite the many advantages. So by adopting a senior dog, you may be saving a life. That’s no small accomplishment!

Once you’ve brought home your senior dog, there are some very important things you can do in order to ensure that you provide the love and the care that he or she deserves. For starters, find the absolute best veterinarian in your area – someone that you trust implicitly – and establish a good relationship with them. Older dogs should receive medical checkups more often than younger dogs; ideally about once every six months. Have your new vet bring you up to speed on all conditions that are common to your dog’s breed, especially as they age. Research canine nutrition, and consider customizing your dog’s diet by preparing the food yourself at home. Pay special attention to your dog’s teeth and maintain good dental hygiene. Keep your house as clean as you can make it, especially the areas of the house most often occupied by your dog, and take care to control and stamp out any infestations of fleas or ticks. And be sensitive to your dog’s abilities when it comes to exercise. Senior dogs should remain active, but not all of them will be able to keep up with a rigorous routine like younger dogs. Adapt the walk to your dog’s abilities.

In my hometown of Culiacan, families care a great deal for their senior members. They are valued for the contributions they made in their youth, and respected and loved at a time when they need it most. I believe it should be just the same with dogs as it is for people. By adopting a senior dog and giving it calm assertive leadership, care, and affection, you are doing a wonderful service and spreading good karma at the same time. And your reward? Unconditional love and companionship. Everybody wins!

Stay calm and assertive!

Cesar Millan

Thanks Cesar – your words are wise.

City announces 2010 summer art display

ST. JOSEPH, MI –
St. Joseph’s downtown will go to the dogs next summer – 30 large, colorful, fiberglass dogs on the downtown street corners and sidewalks.

The 2010 public art display will feature larger-than-life-sized dogs, including basset hounds, great Danes, bulldogs, huskies, Newfoundlands and a single mutt named Buddy.

City Communications, Marketing and Aesthetics Director Susan Solon on Tuesday announced the project, called Hot Diggity Dogs, and gave members of the St. Joseph Improvement Association and the media a sneak peek at the unpainted figures.

Hot Diggity Dogs will be the city’s sixth installation of summer public art. Like the safari animals, boats, cars, bears and carousel horses of years past, the dogs will be painted by local artists over the winter and spring, then positioned throughout the downtown’s shopping area from May to October.

The city was teetering on a decision about whether to cancel the display this year because of the tough economy and tight money, Solon said, so the St. Joseph Improvement Association stepped up to help pay for the pieces.

The organization is pitching in $25,000, which is half the city’s budget for all marketing activities, Solon said.

“Public art has been successful in bringing visitors to the downtown,” said the association’s president, Bob Gerbel. “It is important to continue projects such as public art to sustain a viable downtown.”

End of article….

Well, I contacted Susan Solon about this project. I wanted to see if I could follow the basset hound artists and she said, “Absolutely!” Guess what? Susan is a huge basset hound fan! She has loved many basset hounds in her life. It was such a joy to e-mail her back and forth.

Oh howl I love meeting basset hound fans. This is going to be fun and I plan to keeping everyone in basset hound town up to date on how the basset hound artists are doing.

I love art projects!

Cat’s Movie Pick for Saturday Night!

November 7th, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Valley of the Dolls Lovers! Beware, this is a somewhat racy film, especially for it’s time! This is a 1967 American drama film based on the novel of the same name by Jacquelin Susann.

valley_of_the_dolls

I am such a fan of movies of this time period. Patty Duke knocks it out of the park. The music is fantastic. To date the film has earned $44,432,255 at the box office and $20,000,000 in rentals.

Want to indulge yourself in a camp classic? Then this flick is for you.

Put it on your list dear doll…….

LOL!

More picks later, Cat, Chaps and Emma who are laying on the couch.

Pop corn, not dolls!
