Oui, Oui, and not the tinkle kind! hehehe

July 5th, 2009 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Eiffel Tower Lovers! About 17 years ago I went to Paris with my sister and her husband. It was all so magical. I could do a bunch of blogs about that trip and I am sure I will in the future but for now………….

Let me tell you about a perfect moment in the Eiffel Tower gift shop. Forget the Tower itself – Forget the men in berets – just focus on the gift shop! I entered and went directly to the men’s section. I love wearing white men’s button down shirts. I thought I was going to faint as I was going through the shirts in a tiny sale section.

img_2272

I grabbed it like my life depended on it. The dogs are embroidered on the shirt. I still remember that it cost 99 US dollars. Can you believe that? 17 years ago this shirt was 99 dollars on sale? I had to have it.

Who ever designed this shirt knew that the basset hound was top dog! The hound breed is french you know!

I love looking through old pictures and finding themes!

July 5th, 2009 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and theme lovers: This weekend I took out all of my old pictures and tried to do some organizing. Remember when we all took rolls of film in to be developed? Wow, that seems like the dark ages. I think I took at least a roll of film a day when Chaps and Emma first came home. I was a maniac. I also had triple copies made so I could keep a set, send a set to the breeder and then give away copies to my friends and family. Let’s say I could have probably bought the lap top, IPhone and more several times over with that doe.

OK – back to the theme that emerged this morning…….

TOUCHING

What’s the worst that could happen?

July 5th, 2009 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and wondering what’s the worst that could happen in regarding to noise phobia and Chaps? Hum, I would say someone letting off a home made bomb next door to me. Yes, folks there was terrorism right on our street last night. It was freaking the loudest scariest thing I had ever heard.

The bomb was placed in the grassy patch right by the curb. This picture was taken this morning out of my dining room window. The grassy patch is right by the street.

img_2261

The explosion actually rocked my home. Chaps was so scared I think he went into shock. I immediately called 911 and ran out front. The blue smoke was so thick I could not see the other side of the street. Everyone was coming out of their homes looking dazed. A few seconds later a fleet of Police cars arrived. Many of them had heard the explosion from across town.

A car that was parked right by the bomb had the windows blown out and debry was scattered in most of our yards.

I am so freaked out over this. Who does this? I consider what happened terrorism.

I sure hope I find out what is going on. I guess it is not the worst that could have happened. Someone could have been hurt, or worse.

More wondering about why later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma

Way back, before the days of blogging! LOL

July 4th, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Way Back Before the Days of Blogging Lovers! This posting is going back to when my Mom and I drove from KY to TX to pick up Emma and Chaps. That was back in August of 2004 and I had never ever heard of blogging or social networking. I am guessing many of you had not as well. Anyway, my Mom and I set out on a 2 week tour to get our kids. I wanted to make it special for my Mom and I. I had the entire journey set up at hotels that would take dogs. We visited them on the way there so we could stay on the way back!

When we got to the first Hotel we saw a picture frame in a huge bookcase that had no picture. I thought that was odd. So, I took the picture I had of Emma and put it in the frame! WHY NOT? It would only make the bookcase more beautiful! INDEED! My Mom and I called it the EMMA CAPER!

So, when we came back through on our way home my Mom took these pictures!

img_2251

Here is a close up!

img_2244

It’s funny that this image was numbered 224 when I loaded it. That was my house number growing up. It is home to me. I often wonder if Emma’s picture is still in the frame at that hotel.

UNION STATION – A Wyndham Historic Hotel

If you look really close when the lobby comes up you can see the bookcase in the way back. You cannot see the picture however. Just the book case. hehehehe

I wanted to make one stop both ways really special and this was the hotel to do it! It was a 5 star! Emma tinkled on the fancy 5 star carpet and we did not tell a soul!

We still talk about it. It was so much fun!

More 5 star tinkling later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Kerry of OneMom submits ear lengths for Nell and Sophie!

July 4th, 2009 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Ear Length Lovers! BHT residents Nell and Sophie want to be a part of history! Yes! We are thrilled to add these two beauties to the archives.

First off we have our Nell!

nell2008_11

OK, OK, this is not a long haired basset but a sweet Sussex Spaniel named Nell. OMG! I just love Sussex Spaniels. As far as I can tell they are pretty rare. Here is a blog posting that Kerry of OneMom did about rescuing Nell. THE TRANSFORMATION AND STORY OF NELL.

This year at Westminster a Sussex named Stump won Best in Show! This is how I met Kerry of One Mom! I googled Sussex blogs and found a new friend! We have so much fun being basset hound town friends. Her daughter Hannah is so cute and loves Chaps and Emma!

Here is Nell getting measured!

100_4454

One more for posterity!

100_4455

Good girl! What a sweet heart. Looks like it is about 7” – Not bad for a wannabe! hehehehe

Now for Sophie the basset hound. I have to tell you that when I saw this picture I was sipping OJ and most of it wound up on Emma. Chaps had fun licking it off. I always crack up when I see the faces of hounds getting ear measurements. It looks like they are being tortured!

100_4448

Well, little Miss Drama Queen! Looks like we have a solid 8”! You are still growing so please feel free to re-submit your growth spurts! We will look forward to your next measuring session!

I sure hope no one was drinking while viewing this photo!

More LOL later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma!

Our new car magnets arrived! Please do not be blinded by our beauty as we drive by!

July 4th, 2009 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and new Car Magnet Lovers: I just love car magnets and the first set I bought to advertise the Lily Book were stolen.

I also ordered a pair of the original magnets but yesterday we tried out these! Feast your eyes upon the Mayor and his magnet.

img_2217

Now for the first lady of Basset Hound Town and her magnet!

img_2225

Grandma and I call this her glamour shot. I wanted to pick a sighted picture of Emma so she could help us make our way on transports and rescue missions.

We had just left the vet when I took these pictures.

I am please to announce that Emma has shed and kept off 10 pounds as requested by her physician. She weighs in at 55 pounds.

img_2205

Chaps looks on for moral support

Chaps was also there for a tail check up. The cyst is healing but still there. We might get it removed. Poor boy has about 20 of them all over his bod. This one is the biggest.

All and all a great visit to the vet and a wonderful maiden voyage with the new magnets. When I say wonderful I mean McDonalds french fries! (what a great way to celebrate weight loss) hehehe

More wonderful moments later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Founding Fathers and their dogs!

July 3rd, 2009 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Founding Fathers Lovers!

Here is your Mayor, the Founding Father of Basset Hound Town, the day a stamp was issued in his honor. Today he would like to take a little time to tell you about some of the other founding fathers in USA history.

chaps-stamp

George Washington, Revolutionary War hero and first President, was a man of many interests and pets. Among them were over thirty dogs with names like Sweet Lips, Drunkard, Taster, and Tipsy.

washingtonfoxhunting
His preference ran toward hunting hounds, and he was gifted on several occasions by the French general Marquis de Lafayette with French foxhounds and others, including the first basset hounds in America. Washington himself used these gifts to develop the American fox hound breed.

Washington’s favorite was Vulcan, a huge black American fox hound, reported to be big enough for a young boy to ride like a pony, with powerful jaws and an infamous appetite. A legendary story tells of Vulcan developing a taste for Virginia hams, and sneaking into Washington’s Mount Vernon kitchen, snatching a one, and running “straight to the kennels with it locked in his great jaws.” First Lady Martha was justifably upset, but the event openly delighted George.
The first pets to actual live at the White House belonged to second President John Adams and his wife. He built the first stable at the White House for his horse Cleopatra, but the first dogs to live there belonged to his wife Abigail. Their names were Juno and Satan.
Thomas Jefferson, our third President and primary architect of The Declaration of Independence, was also gifted by Lafayette with Buzzy the Briard, a French working breed. Buzzy would provide later provide him with puppies. Jefferson also had two bear cubs and a mockingbird named Dick.
Although never a president, founding father Benjamin Franklin was an inventor, statesman, and a co-contributor to The Declaration of Independence. No research revealed his having a dog, but rumor has it that he and his wife had a cat . . .

What would we do without House of Puddles?

July 2nd, 2009 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Bassset Hound and old Basset Hound Lovers:

You think you have heard most of the stupid dog stories before but NOPE, there is always someone that proves to be more stupid when it comes to dog owner ship.

THIS WAS A POST THAT MARILYN DID A FEW DAYS AGO………..

“Meet Loretta (renamed from Lucy because we already have one), who arrived on Sunday. Her owners took her to the vet for a bath, had a big argument about who was going to pay for it, and ended up leaving her there to be euthanized. What’s really odd is that in looking at her vet records, which go back a couple of years, they had been taking her in for a bath every 2 to 4 weeks. Why argue about it now?

She’s not really thrilled with being surrounded by 19 other dogs, but trying to make the best of it. She sounds like she’s been debarked – has kind of a high pitched squawk instead of a deep basset bark. Despite all her baths, she was pretty dirty when she arrived so she had another one last night. Needs a nail clipping really bad, too.”

Thank you Marilyn, Thank you……….
More scratching your head stories later……(unfortunately) Cat, Chaps and Emma

I had a lunch date today with a beautiful girl!

July 2nd, 2009 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Lunch date lovers! OMG! I had so much fun today on my lunch day with a very beautiful girl. I had a cheese sandwich and she had impatiens!

I took my sandwich outside to look at my flower bed and get away from the phone and hang out by the cherry tree I bought in Chloe and Lily’s memory. Just then my date showed up! Get this, my camera was right inside the door, laying in hallway. (don’t forget to click on the picture to enlarge)

img_2179

I had to crack up because the people who live across the street (second floor) had just put out their pots to get more sun and rain on them. They are really into their flowers and enjoy tending to them. hehehehe

Too Bad, So Sad! My date was hungry! She was chewing on her flowers and I was chewing on my cheese! Hi pretty girl

img_2180

CHOMP, CHOMP, CHOMP – Hey, those flowers across the street look good. I like the flower buffet on this street!

img_2185

La dee da, la dee da – LOOK BOTH WAYS!

img_2186

Poor girl, looks like life gave her a few hard knocks. That’s not going to get her down….

MORE FLOWERS!

img_2190

And then she said good bye.

img_2191

I saw her wander into the woods behind my home. I sure hope she comes back for another lunch date!

So does the Mayor!

img_2194

I wonder if she will dine on our flowers?

img_2200

She can have um, we don’t care.

img_2196

I hope she enjoys Chloe and Lily’s tree as much as we do.

More beautiful lunch dates later…..Love, Cat, Chaps Emma, and pretty girl!
