Carpet sparks and scaring hounds?????

February 3rd, 2010 - 11:11 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and wondering about carpet sparks friends. OMG! This phenomena has become a real problem for us. I was just wondering howl you deal with it?

Every day and night I walk throughout my home and touch my hounds. It always seems at this time of the year I create sparks.

I will reach down and touch a hound and it generates a spark. Emma never flinches but Chaps acts like I am hurting him. He jumps and flinches. He looks at me like, “Why are you doing that Mommy?” Sometimes I can see the spark. I feel it as well!

Do any of our residents deal with this? Chaps never holds a grudge. But I know he is a bit upset by it. I totally understand that he does not understand.

More just wondering what you think later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Ya know, that happens to me in wal-mart every time I pick up a metal can. I try not to buy many goods in cans. Ha! I think shuffling your feet along the floor causes that sometimes. And I think wearing slippers may make it worse. Try touching something else before you touch him and see if that works. I’m sure someone else has a better idea cuz I’m just guessing.

Spraying some Static Guard around the house will help and also a humidifier.

Have to use a humidifier. Just tell Chaps our Miss Riley says he is “Hot Stuff”

We have the same problem here. We have decided to install a whole house humidifier. It will reduce shocks to dogs and kid, and will reduce our heating bills and improve general well-being. Anyway, they are not very expensive and I have a handy-dandy husband who can install it. It has been way too shocking around here!

Great ideas everyone. Also, on a very serious note. I heard that you should never, never, never leave a gas pump unattended by getting back in your car. You can potentially create a static charge by sliding back out of your seat, igniting the gasoline fumes.

    Be careful friends!

Cat, it must be your “electric” personality;)! BWHAHAHAHA! Static electricity does hurt–I have also had this happen to me once or twice with the boys. Thanks for the tip about the gas pump–never thought about that!
