A Pound Cake for Mother’s Day!

May 8th, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Pound Cake Lovers! Yummers! Chaps, Emma and I wanted to make Grandma a cake for Mother’s day. I decided to use my Dad’s famous pound cake recipe. He made this cake for each one of us every birthday!

Here Emma helps me get all of the ingredients together.

I have a lot of pictures.
Here is the loaf pan all buttered, floured and ready for the creation!

IMG_6579

It is basically a pound cake with lots of good stuff added in. I slice one banana. I never add the banana end pieces. Emma gets one end.

And the Mayor gets the other end. I have never liked banana ends for some reason. Just look at that face, a face that loves banana ends!

IMG_6582

OK, all hounds out of the kitchen!

IMG_6593

Then I add a 1/3 cup of Philly Cheese Cake filling to the banana slices and a 1/3 cup of lemonaid and mix it all up. My Dad taught me never to use the water a recipe may call for. Be creative!

Add a 1/2 stick of butter, 2 eggs, and the banana mixture to the pound cake mix. Add 1/2 of the mixture to the loaf pan and then the best part…….

Layer the top with macadamia nuts, chocolate chips, and then drizzle with caramel sauce. OH DEAR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Repeat, then bake for one hour at 350 degrees.

Now I am just rubbing it in! LOL

IMG_6595

Add an entire canister of milk chocolate frosting.
YES! I mean it! An entire canister!

IMG_6596

Are your teeth hurting yet? Wait….You have to encrust the top with about another cup of chopped macadamia nuts….

Look, the pound cake is smiling….Just like you will be it you give it a try!

Happy Mother’s Day!

More pound cake memories later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Oh my goodness! That is the yummiest looking cake I think I have ever seen!!! I tried to bake a pound cake once and it multiplied itself many times over in the oven – what a mess!!! I never did figure out what I did wrong, so I’ve been worried about trying a pound cake again. That sure looks good though.

I’m with you Cat – I have never liked banana ends!

Happy Mother’s Day Cat to you and your Mom. Extra slurps from Nell and Sophie.

Good Morning and Happy Mothers Day to all 2 and 4 legers Moms!
Cat you can come to CT any time and bake for us. I also wanted to let you know that I am a new mother to a 12 year old, we took Al after the fire at Puget Sound Basset Rescue and fell in love. He has bone cancer and doing well. We have only one step in our home so he is doing well here and yesterday we told Alexa we would like to adopt him and Al seemed to know as he wanted to sleep in the bedroom with the Camp Toast hounds and humans. I guess the HOPers and my kids at the Bridge Melba Toast, Mama and Sir Boxer felt it was time for another oldie but goodie to come to Camp Toast. Happy Mothers Day and eating cake day!!! Sending love to one and all–Sandy and the Camp Toast Gang, Yola Bean, Toshi, Harry, Toki and now Ally

Sandy – Wow! What great news about Al. He is so lucky to have you and I am sure you feel the same way. It sounds like the perfect set up for the old guy.

I would love to visit Camp Toast and bake my Dad’s famous pound cake for your guys. While I am there we can call it Camp Cake! hehehe

    What great news!

Thanks for the update Sandy. I hope Alexa is gaining some strength after the terrible fire. I am looking forward to more update. Please, please keep us informed.

    Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
