KY Hound in the Pound….Sigh:(

June 1st, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Hounds in the Pound Haters…..Well, we are all one of those.

Today I had a list of things to do as long as a basset’s body when the phone rang. It was Terry, my Animal Control office.

She told me a sad story of woe. Elmer is an owner relinquish at the Campbell County Pound. In KY, owner relinquished dogs can be put down the same day. At my pound they give a grace period if they are not full. Well, my local pound is almost full.

So, Elmer moved to the top of my TO DO LIST.

Grandma and I zoomed down to the pound to take pictures.

IMG_6874

Hi Lady, you seem nice…….

Then I heard his sad story….

I was chained to a tree for two years, (I am 2 years old). Mez never had a human to lubs…..

IMG_6894

That is why I look so sad and kinda growled at the nice lady holding the leash. But then the Grandma lady looked nice and I smiled at herz!

IMG_6895

Then that grandma ladyz gave mez a tweet and I smiled bigger….I never had a tweet. I barely had food or water. The ugly lady that fed me every now and then got pregnant and told some man to get rid of me. He dumped me at the pound.

IMG_6896

My ears went up I was so happy after my tweet! Then the lady who smelled like basset hounds gave me a pat on the head and I smiled even more!

IMG_6903

Look howl long I am! Even though I have never walked on a leash I didn’t do too bad!

IMG_6877

It was time to go back to the pound. Actually, I have never been off my tree tie so I kind of like the freedom….

IMG_6905

They give me fresh water which is a real treat…..

IMG_6910

I never had a place to sleep. Just on the dirt under a tree.

I wonder if someone will want me? No tree people need reply!!!!

IMG_6912

I am 2 years old and not neutered. I have never had human contact. That is why I growled at the basset hound town lady. It was a very light growl. She told me not to worry about it.

Oh, the nice lady wants to change my name if someone wants me. She figures that my name is not something I connect with anything good.

She thinks I look like a Frank. In honor of her Dad’s Dad. Frank the Fantastic!

I think I am going on something called Facebook. OK! Sounds fun! Let me know if you know anything you can do.

The nice BHT lady will contact all of her contacts.

More about Frank later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Oh, I have had just an awful day, and now to read “Frank the Fantastic’s” terrible tale of woe, I am just balling. What is the matter with people?! People cheat, lie, are mean to dogs and little kids. Poor Frank. Is there anything we can do to help the pound keep him a little longer? It’s not his fault that people are idiots … he deserves to be loved and know the good life of a basset hound.

My mom always said that she would rather be around dogs than most people …

Oh my what a sad story. It doesn’t take much for me to have a breakdown anymore especially when it comes to grandchildren and dogs. I am having one now after reading this and listening to the message my son left about a letter he got about Paige. What is wrong with people – do they not realize how precious life is either human or animal? I just do not get it. I wish I could help Frank but Bumper only tolerates his cousin dogs and there will be several staying with us for the next 2 weeks. He will be done then!

    frank is beautiful!

i think those rescued know deep inside which people are safe deep inside…almost instinctively…i have been to sheltersn tro pull dogs with similar stories and while they may have not positive people stories to draw from they routinely know that there are some good people out in the world.

you my friend & grnadma are 2 of them.

will they hold frank for a while?
shall we take up a collection for mr frank??? after all he will need travelling attire for a trip or at least toys and such for his stay at chez pound.l

He is just beautiful! Love all the black with the white. He’ll come around just fine as soon as he gets some love. I sure hope he finds a home! Let me know if you need anything. There’s not much I can do from such a distance but let me know if you think of something.

Frank is a real sweet guy. I have never seen such expressions all in the span of several minutes.

Poor thing is like an uncaged animal. He was soooooo excited to walk with GM and I today. Just smelling like crazy.

I will keep us all posted on himz.

BTW, I could not believe all of the mixed pups at the pound. About 20 or more. All those little faces. They are the ones that get adopted out first.

Never, fear Frank…..We are on the case! The case of a forever home!

You have the best of the best pulling for you! Bassethoundtown!

I just don’t understand how anyone could treat an animal like that. My neighbor just adopted a beautiful hound that is just 2 years old had pups. They never feed her and she was abused. Out of 6 pups she could only feed 3. He named her Angel Rose, and she sure is a doll. If folks don’t want to treat animals kindly with love and as a member of a family , don’t have a pet. I guess being a farmer who has saved a few animals from such treatment it gets under my skin to easily. If there is a fund to help Mr. Frank please let me know, I would love to help him. He is a handsome hound who will I am sure find a wonderful home thanks to folks like Cat, G.M. and OneMom
    God Bless you all

OH man this really gets to me and Beau 🙁 In fact, he look almost like my Beau and it makes us so sad to hear stories like this. I want to drive up to KY right now and help him find a home. Cat I never told you but I have family up in KY and OH and I use to hear about the pounds up there. Down here our shelter has a no kill policy. Wish he was in my shelter so that he could find a home. Not that I wish he was in a shelter just that if he was to be in one that it would be one like ours. I hope he finds a home today. Here is why this story touches me so much. Here is a picture of my Linus Beauregard and why Frank reminds me so much of our Strawberry Thief 🙁

These were the only pictures I had a work and when he was just a pup http://www.flickr.com/photos/parariggerman/4663302184/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/parariggerman/4662681399/

I can’t add anything more to everyone’s anger about Frank’s past life. He sure is handsome. We will keep our paws crossed that someone will give him the love he deserves.

  13. June 2nd, 2010 | 9:55 am

Thanks Boyd. I put Frank on FB last night and I only got two comments. Sigh……

  14. June 2nd, 2010 | 11:07 am

I have a friend on youtube who has a ton of subscribers that will do a video about him this week. I also contacted another friend who has a lot of subscribers too, we will find Frank a home. Beau and I want to drive up right now to help find him a home.

  15. June 2nd, 2010 | 11:38 am

Thanks again Boyd. All the help he can get is great. I just talked to the shelter director and told her Frank is generating some good help and she is happy to hold him awhile longer. I might need to pull him before the weekend. I will know more tomorrow. ((((((Frank)))))) A diamond in the ruff! Look at that spot on his back. It looks like a diamond! He’s our little diamond back doggie!

I was afraid to open this blog….in fear we would see another photo like Troopers. Thank you Cat & Grandma for going to the pound to help our Frank! You two are just angels for all Bassets in Kentucky! I think the woman who owned him should not pay a fine….just tie her to a tree for two years. That should fix the problem. Please keep us posted. I will have to email you and tell you what your Granddog did….

Suzanne – No one has picked him up but the shelter director will hold him for me for a bit longer.

Can we get him on a flight to the Jersey Shore? Hey Frankie!

😉 That would be too cool!

For goodness sake – someone close to Kentucky – go grab this dog and worry about finding him a forever home later!

Grab him – Make sure he is safe!

  27. June 2nd, 2010 | 6:38 pm

Beverly – I sent you a private e-mail with a few details about the pound where Frankie is. I just wanted to post here so everyone could see that I responded to Beverly.

I sure hope to hear back from ya!

    Cat

  28. June 2nd, 2010 | 6:41 pm

Joani – He is safe. They are holding him for me. I can’t foster so when I pick him up I would like to have a place for him to go.

I know the shelter wants him out but they are giving me a few days to network the handsome boy.

    I will keep everyone posted.

Boyd, they look like they could be twins! Your Beau is so cute! Thanks for sharing.

The pound does not open until 10:00 this morning. I am going to need to get him today or tomorrow. As most of you know I cannot foster. It is too hard on Chaps and my Mom.

    Oh Frankie!!!!!!

So, is Beverly going to be able to take him? If not, maybe we can come up with enough money to kennel him until he gets a home? Some kennels will give rescues a discount. I know your not a 501C3 but if you explain to the kennel maybe they’ll at least give us a discount.

How about the rescue on that farm? I can’t remember the name of it. I wonder if they could take him in if nobody else can or maybe at least keep him until you find him a home?

    June 3rd, 2010 | 10:33 am

Well, Beverly never did e-mail me back so I don’t think that is going to work.

Outlaw Basset Hound Rescue had an outbreak of Parvo and has shut down intake for the summer to sanitize the kennel/chicken coop!

My vet does a 10% and that’s it. 18.50 per day.

I am going over to do a more detailed blog post.

Maybe there are other kennels in the area that are cheaper? Sometimes the kennels are cheaper than vets who kennel. If you offer to supply the food sometimes they’ll come down in price too.

Either way, we may be able to come up with $20 a day if we all pull together and pay for a day or 2.

Heck, as a last resort maybe someone in the area would foster? Long shot huh?

  38. Cat
    June 3rd, 2010 | 10:48 am

Yeah, it is a long shot. KY is just very strange in that it does not have an organized state rescue. Bluegrass does some in Western KY but the pounds around here don’t even call them anymore.

I cover the 3 Northern KY counties and interestingly bassets get adopted out pretty good.

I use my vet because it is 3 minutes from my house. It is very handy for me. I can go over several times a day and walk and work with the hound that is boarding. I can meet transports and it is about 5 minutes from the interstate.

So, it works well for me.

Anyway, I am rambling. I am going back to my blog posting.
