Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and cherishing Chaps Daddy lovers…..

It is with great sadness that I deliver this sorrowful news. The great and wonderful Magnum, Chaps Daddy, has departed for the rainbow bridge along with his best friend Cheyna.

Daddy Magnum

This great gentleman and Father to Chaps was 13 and 1/2 years old and his family, Karen and Tim are heartbroken. All of those who loved him are heartbroken as well. I know that Magnum had many lovers in this town. He was held up as a magnificent elder statesman as the great and wonderful Daddy of Chaps.

Karen writes,

“I cried so hard this year when the azaleas started to bloom. I knew it would be the last time Magnum would enjoy walking under the bushes and slowly tickling and scratching his back.”

Karen continues….

“Ever since we adopted Cheyna as a senior dog she has followed closely behind Magnum. For the last couple of years they have been close and would take walks like an old married couple. They loved each other and followed each other closely in life and death. Cheyna was over 14.”

It is my wish that Grandpa met them as they crossed over the rainbow bridge. My Dad, greeting Chaps Dad, and his best friend. That makes me feel good.

Back in 2005 I designed this rock that looked like a heart for Magnum. I found it in my garden. I never sent it to him because I enjoyed looking at it every day. I think deep down I was waiting for this day. Now I will send it to Karen and Tim. There is also room on the rock to add the name Cheyna.

I have tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. That was so very beautiful Cat. They both sound like they had great lives and knew they were loved. They will never leave the hearts of those who love them.

I know that Grandpa is giving treats and pets right now. I can see it.

I am so sorry for the loss. I know all the Richlen hounds and farm critters are there to play and greet them. I can see your Dad sitting on a bench encirled with hounds to love. Run free. I lift you all in prayers. Henri and Riley send drool and love.

What a wonderful tribute to Magnum and Cheyna. My heart goes out to their human family – it has got to be unbelievably hard to lose two dogs at once but they can take comfort in knowing that they are together forever. Bumper and Abby are sending lots of drool today!

So sorry to hear this sad news. What beautiful souls … I love thinking of your dad greeting them at the bridge and giving snacks and lots of belly rubs.

    Dog speed, indeed.

My prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time. I hope you can take some consolidation in the fact that you gave Magnum and Cheyna a wonderful loving home, and the best quality of life.

Makes me so sad when our family friends leave us. When my Dixie left for Rainbow Bridge, I wasn’t the same. I think what hit me harder was because she was only 3 and I was not prepared for her departure. I know how this family feels and I well think about Chaps daddy tonight 🙂

Magnum was a beautiful and a glorious hound. He will be missed by many. For some reason he always reminded me of a nice old sophisticated English gentleman. Sad to see him go. RIP Magnum
