Hal’s Adventure…..

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Hal from Tokyo Lovers….

I so enjoy keeping up with Hal and his new English version blog. It is so much fun to see where he gets to go. Tokyo seems so much more relaxed about letting dogs do stuff.

Here is the link to the actual blog posting and believe me, it is well worth the read!

Hi Cat — I haven’t written for a very long time — I live in Northern Ontario with our Basset Paisley. I was in Japan during the earthquake — actually only 2 days before but you do see dogs everywhere. Mostly little dogs dressed in their Sunday best. In Harejuku we came across a little boutique just full of tiny dog clothes — nothing that would even fit Paisleys paw. Our first morning I saw a lady pushing a basset in a carridge from the hotel window. Paisley is trying to talk me into getting her one but so far its a no go.

Hal is gorgeous! I think that is way cool that dogs seem to be accepted everywhere. Of all places it seems like the USA would do that ya know?

Hi Sandy – Nice to hear from you again. I had a nice chuckle over the basset in the stroller! hehehe

There would be know way I could even lift either one of my kids into a stroller.

Mostly little dogs….That is very interesting.

Cindy – I have no idea why the USA is so uptight over dogs. We I visited Paris I saw dogs on all of the public transportation and even in cafes. They had entire teams of public workers that tended to poop patrol. There were big cans on every corner just for dog poop. Everyone seemed to follow the rules.

I know what you mean Cat, there seems to be such discrimination about dogs here in the USA.

Hal’s pictures are beautiful, and I am glad that Japan is recovering from the quake.

Cat another interesting thing. Japan is VERY clean — no garbage or poop. BUT there are also NO garbage cans. If you create garbage you must take your garbage home with you — poop too!!! — I guess thats why they have little dogs????? We were told they discourage eating on the streets but there are also tons and I mean tons of vending machines grouped in certain areas — still no garbage cans. You can get everything you could possibly want out of a vending machine there, even eggs although we did’nt see one of those

Well, there ya have it. “Everyone seemed to follow the rules”. We have a problem with people following rules in the USA. So, everyone gets punished.

Yep, Cindy that is so true. I went to China once and our driver that took us to the Great Wall of China was having a smoke and he tossed his butt in the street and within 3 seconds he got a ticket for 50 dollars.

Sandy – that is very interesting about the garbage thing in Japan. Vending machines…..that would be pretty cool.

I remember watching Oprah once years ago and she was telling a story of one of her trips she took with her beloved cocker spaniels. She was at the hotel check in with her crew and she told the person she had her dogs with her. The desk clerk told OPRAH! that the hotel did not allow dogs. I think it was the Hyatt. Oprah was shocked and replied, “What do you want me to do with them, tie them to a tree?” Her assistant got on the horn and the entire entourage packed up and went across the street to the Marriott. Right after the story Oprah called the CEO (on the show) of the Hyatt and ask him to re-consider the policy. He was very polite and said that they would, but who knows. Hotels are the worst. That is why I want an RV. I bet that clerk got all kinds of heck!

I couldn’t leave a comment on Hal’s site, so I’ll leave it here:

Wow! Hal’s excellent adventure! Can’t imagine Sophie (our basset) in a ski lift! What a fun and beautiful post. Hal does look very “puffy” … I would love to smoosh that face.

What a good boy riding on that ski lift. Chaps would have needed a helicopter to take him up the hill.

What a beautiful Basset, he is so lucky to be able to go to all their places, would’t that have been so much fun if we were able to have taken Chaps and Emma into
Some of our places on our last trip.

I know Grandma! At least we had the basset hauling vehicle all decked out for them and the weather was perfect for them to be in the car. Perfect!

This is a little late, but loved seeing Hal on the ski lift with his tail hanging out. The next post is also about the trip and shows him with a Corgi. Must have been female, he was so persistent.

The newest post is a video of her trying to get him to play a game. Watching him, I can tell why so many bassets get lost. They don’t pay any attention to what we are doing. They really do think they are the center of the universe.
