The Day Lilies bloom right around my birthday which I love. Of course, I take this as a birthday present from Lily!

Lily with lillies

Some of the Lilys that Lily is posing in front of are behind Chaps. My Dad dug some of them up and brought them to our new home! Oh, howl much do I love that?

Anyway, Chaps gets hot and waddles in when he is done…..

He lays right by the AC vent that is behind this cabinet! See the hole?

BJ came to visit the Mayor and Shimlette!

June 18th, 2011 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and visiting lovers….Our dear, dear friend and resident of Bassethoundtown, BJ, came to visit us recently all the way from Palm Springs, CA. We were absolutely thrilled to have her and her step Mom June for the day. BJ looks great and is soldiering on with her treatments for Cancer. For her to make this trip was a blessing for all of us!

This picture cracks me up. BJ is wearing a lanyard I sent her with Chaps and Emma’s pictures on it. I ask her to wear it during chemo so the kids could be near her heart. I have on the shirt that was air brushed in Gatlenburg of the same picture of the Mayor.

It is kind of blurry but you get the idea!

This one is a little bit better….

We had a great time.

BJ always says….”Just Believe” and believe we do!

JeTaime – Mamoru Oshii and his basset hound!

June 14th, 2011 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and JeTaime Lovers. JeTaime means I love you in French.

I love you and your basset hound Mamoru Oshii and I have for years…..

These are the blogs I have done about the Japanese writer and director over the years.

2/24/09 – Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

6/8/09 – Website stats explode on Sunday

10/20/09 – For my anime friends…Gabriel Oshii and his Father haunt Hollywood

Now Mamoru Oshii has made an animated short film, about 13 minutes long, staring his basset hound, whom I am assuming is still Gabriel. Looks like Gabriel anyway.

JeTaime

I loved it. It appears to me that Gabriel is dreaming. In his dream he perhaps saves the world unknowingly with his tennis ball? Anyway, that’s my take on it. I would love to know what it really means. I have watched Mamoru Oshii animation for years and I am just not a huge SiFi fan but I am a huge fan of his art and his love for basset hounds.

Enjoy….

Article on the internet….

“That Ghost In The Shell director Mamoru Oshii has a thing for basset hounds is not exactly news for fans. The man has been tucking the sad eyed, droopy eared dogs into his work – both live action and animation – for decades now and it’s been suggested more than once that the director has more affection for his canine friends than any bipeds on the planet. So the fact that recent animated short film
Je T’Aime features a basset hound as the lead isn’t really a surprise. If anything the surprise is that it’s taken this long for a hound to take the lead.

Je T’Aime had a brief festival run before being released as part of a DVD package for Japanese pop stars Glay.”

GLAY

See them on the billboard in the background? Love it…

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Sunday Pot Roast Lovers…..

I don’t think I have ever cooked a pot roast in my life. Well, maybe in 7th grade home economics class! I am pretty sure tonight’s roast turned out much better than my 7th grade one!

Poor Emma has a dry nose!

June 10th, 2011 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and pity the dry nose lovers…Poor Emmers….

OK, Emma has a dry nose. I am pretty sure it is because she bumps it so often. Oh, I watch her every step of the way and I never change a thing in the house. But she still bumps:(

IMG_1789

I have a tube of vitamin E that I dab on her nose after she eats.

I feel her bump my leg about 50 times a day. I see her bump Chaps about that much.

Emma is the best girl in our world. We love her nose so much….

More putting some Vitamin E on her nose later…Cat, Chaps and Emma

Animal clinic gives Ellie Mae a second chance

June 9th, 2011 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Auburn Lovers…..

Wow, what a story!

Animal clinic gives Ellie Mae a second chance
Auburn
Ellie Mae, a basset hound found in the tornado wreckage of Collinsville is in need of knee surgery, a costly procedure. Auburn University’s college of veterinary medicine has necessary emergency funds available and will be able to cover the cost of the operation.

Renee Weidler, founder of Help For Our Furry Friends, rescued Ellie Mae and more than 50 other dogs shortly after the April tornado devastation occurred.

“No one really knows where she came from,” Weidler said. “She’s a doll though.”

Weidler noticed that Ellie Mae was limping after she was rescued, and it was becoming progressively worse. The original prognosis by veterinarians was a broken hip.“She had been up there for two weeks, but no one claimed her,” Weidler said.

The shelter could not afford to pay for the operation or medical care for many other rescued animals.

“There are disaster funds for us two-leggeds. That’s what we call ourselves,” said Kristie Ness, a volunteer for the foundation. “There has to be funds for four-leggeds. They are injured. Why can’t we get disaster funds for them?”

Ness began the search for funds and contacted the Small Animal Clinic at Auburn University. She was referred to Vic Walker, manager of client services, who then determined if funds were available.

“The college of veterinary medicine has a good samaritan fund that can contribute to these dogs that don’t have owners and have terrible injuries,” said Jamie Bellah, professor and head of clinical sciences. “That is the fund we will use for her (Ellie Mae’s) care.”

Ness received a phone call from Walker confirming that funds were available and surgery would take place.

Walker then set up a time for Ellie Mae to travel from Birmingham to Auburn June 6 to be diagnosed.

“I communicated to Walker that we should take a look at the dog and see if we can help it,” Bellah said. “We’re certainly a hospital capable of helping animals with medical or surgical problems, so we certainly like to help when we can.”

Bellah said it is a teaching hospital and they do sometimes have the means to help out dogs like this that are not in a normal circumstance, but they can’t help every dog in this situation.

Dr. R.D. Montgomery, professor of orthopedic surgery, took Ellie Mae in for examination and was able to identify the medical issue.

“It is not a broken hip, but rather a torn ACL,” Montgomery said.

Montgomery will be conducting surgery on Ellie Mae June 7 to correct the knee. After the surgery, Ness said Ellie Mae has plans to be adopted in Tallassee.
