Pretty, pretty pictures…

Howllo fellow Basset Hound and Pretty, pretty pictures lovers…

Today Grandma and I took our Darling Daisy Lynn out for a drive and a walk.  It was another picture perfect day.  The only problem is that Daisy Lynn does not like to ride in the car.  She whines and cries and just seems generally confused.  Dog knows we have had her in the car many, many times.

She loves it when we get to our destination.

We all do, and have so much fun!

She is 100% better on the ride home, probably because she is tired.

I love this picture that Grandma set up for us.

This entire car thing with Daisy Lynn is perplexing.  We hope she grows out of it.

Howl do your hounds do in the car?

More loving pebbles and October later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB loving riding on clouds…)

When Ollie was younger he rode in his crate in the backseat. Now he is content on short rides laying in the backseat. We still use the crate on long trips. He will not ride on anyone’s lap or in the front. He doesn’t like to look out the windows either. It took me trial & error when he was a pup as to why he would be nervous in the car. Once I put his crate in the car & him in it he relaxed. This might work for Daisy Lynn.

Our Basset does fine in the car and is a ‘typical’ dog, looking out the window and watching the sites go by. Our Basset mix HATES the car and plants her feet when she realizes we’re headed towards the car. She doesn’t make any noise in the car but is obviously relieved when she can get out. Then again, when we first got her when she was 5 yrs old she hated going on walks and planted her feet, refusing to move. My husband dragged her down the driveway. Once she got to the end she “started rolling” as DH says, and never looked back. Her 3 daily walks are now her favorite thing!! Maybe she just needs a few more car rides?

    I agree. PRETTY, PRETTY PICS!

Jethro is like that. He seems uncomfortable when traveling and cries at times. He was worse when he was younger. Sometimes I think he has a little car sickness but he’s never thrown up. When we traveled to Michigan he was fine though. We had a big comfy bed set up in the back seat and he slept a lot. Maybe they’re just scared they’re going to the vet to get poked.

Yes, Cindy A – Daisy Lynn does the same thing. She hangs her head when we start towards the car and just is not happy at all. She even does this when I get her harness out for our morning walks. She loves the walking part but there is just something odd about her with all of this. With my other hounds I could not even say the word “walk” or “let’s get in the car”, or they would go crazy! My Mom and I love to go and we want her to as well. She seems to love her walks and pulls and sniffs for hours. When we get back to the top of our street she lays down in the same patch of grass and watches the world go by. It’s like she does not want to go home. She is sure a mystery at times.

Sandy, Mom and I were talking about putting a crate in the car for her. We were wondering if that would work. I think I will try that method if this does not get any better for her. Today we are going to try again and this time I am going to put a bit of rescue remedy on her. I even have a note on her harness. I report back later today with the results.

Cindy,JOandR,ATB – I thought of that as well, (the vet thing) but Daisy Lynn has only been there a very few times but maybe she remembers that day long stay when she got spayed. I don’t know what goes on in that cute little head of herz. I sure wish I knew. I am going to put this on the list of questions I am going to ask the psychic. A few weeks ago I was giving the name of a communicator and I just might try it. I guess it can’t hurt!!! It might be fun!!! We will see, you know for sure I will blog about it. hehehe

Bumper and Abby absolutely love to ride in the car. They look out the windows and then they lay down and go right to sleep. Never a peep out of them in the car!

Poor Daisy Lynn!:((( My gentlehound, Biggs, does horribly in the car, unfortunately, which is why we rarely take him anywhere. As soon as he gets in the car he hangs his head, drools uncontrollably and has often vomited, as well, so we must lay towels and sheets all over the place. I guess even dogs get car sick, poor darling. Even down to the corner and back makes Biggs very ill. Harley and Leo do very well in the car…
