Howlin’ at the Vacuum Cleaner?!?!

January 10th, 2014 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Howlin’ Lovers…I know that most hounds and dogs in general don’t like the vacuum cleaner, heck, I don’t like the darn thing either.

(see her under the chair?)

DLV1

Daisy Lynn went nuts today!  I don’t recall her ever doing this in the past???

I am sure I have vacuumed in the past year a few times;)

DLV2

She went crazy and started howling and howling.  Our Mayor is not a howler for the most part.

DLV3

I hate to think she only howls when she is upset…

It was a sweet and long howl!! Over and over…

I put her behind the gate and make quick order of the task.

Do your hounds howl at the vacuum cleaner?

More trying to find happy howls later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB howling because there are no vacuum cleaners…)

Bumper only gets up and moves if the vacuum cleaner happens to bump him! Probably because I have had to sweep up their hair almost every day for the past 12 years Bumper and Abby are used to it!

Isn’t that strange? So, now we know! You only vacuum once a year! Ha! Is it the same vacuum? Did you maybe run over something the last time you used it and it made a funny noise that scared her? Dogs are so silly, there’s no telling what’s going through her little mind. But I’m sure she’ll soon forget as you continue to use the vacuum and everything is ok.

Nobody at my house is really scared of the vacuum but they do get up and move out of the way. I call it the “vacuum cleaner monster”.

Cookie and Tater don’t howl at the vacuum, but they are curiously afraid of it. They stay in the vicinity where I’m vacuuming, but when I get close, they scatter and then come back when it’s safe. Our last basset, Ruby, would always go to her toy box and pick out one particular rawhide bone and carry it around. That was the only time she paid attention to that bone. I guess it was comfort for her.

Ollie used to be afraid of my old vacuum & bark or run to another room but not since I got my newer one about a year ago. Now he just moves out of the way & returns to where he was laying as soon as I am done with that area. He doesn’t move to far out of my way either. Maybe my newer one has a different sound pitch. Dogs are funny! Ollie also doesn’t like my mixer or food chopper or the vent on the microwave. He will leave the room or want to go outside. He doesn’t mind the electric knife because he knows he will get something lol!!!

Lily has been known to bark at it.
We had a Scottie that would hide under the
bed and then jump out and pounce on it.

Sophie and LuLu hide. Mabel tries to bite it (she is the great protector). We had a cat when I was a kid that loved to be vacuumed (canister vac obviously). Maybe Daisy Lynn is trying to sing with it?

Slinky didn’t care much for the vacuum, but she did make an effort to get along with it. Slinky would bark when the vacuum came out of the closet and was turned on. I think she wanted the vacuum to know she was in charge.
