Light a candle for our Floyd…

January 30th, 2010 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Floyd Lovers….

Our Floyd was not at the House of Puddles for very long but he was able to know love for 3 months.

I learned of his passing last night from Marilyn. She states,

“I didn’t have him very long, barely 3 months, and I’m so sad he never really got to enjoy his senior years. But I hope he knew he was very much loved while he was with me. At the vet’s office this evening, they put a quilt on the floor. I laid down on it a patted a spot next to me and he actually came over on his own and laid down next to me. I stroked and cuddled him till he went to sleep from the sedative, then we let him go to the Bridge.

We have a new HoPper! ANDY

December 27th, 2009 - 11:11 am KY Time

PUPDATE – I JUST FOUND ANOTHER PHOTO OF ANDY BRAZZLE ON FACEBOOK!

AndyBrazzle

Howllo fellow Basset Hound and new HoPper lovers….

Please to meet you Andy! Our Andy was in a kill shelter in Norfolk VA. I guess he was dumped by his family. I really don’t know why he was there. Another Basset Hound rescue wanted to save him but they could not find a foster home. Enter Marilyn…….

So, Basset C.A.R.E. pulled him and their transport coordinator who is also a psychic pet communicator said that the hound told him his name is Andy. Is that too cool? I wonder what else he said?

So, this morning we have a pupdate from Dear Marilyn……..

“This is the only pic I’ve snapped of him so far. He’s hiding under the coffee table after a very trying day – a 4-hour road trip from Norfolk, getting dumped in a houseful of crazy dogs, and a vet visit already. He seemed kind of depressed and painful in his legs so I called my vet and was able to get him right in. He’s got horrible, horrible teeth (why do they always come that way?), bad infections in eyes and ears and has pain in his back and hips. His shoulders don’t look too steady, either. I got him set up for a dental and x-rays on Monday, and he’ll start on Rimadyl & antibiotics today.

He’s a sweet old boy. Very quiet, knows to go to the door for potty and came back through the doggie door by himself, so maybe he’s had one before.”

Poor old guy. He will soon feel right at home with all the other old men and women of HOP. I sure wish I could win the lottery. it would be so cool.

Welcome home Andy. I am already in love…..

A little video from House of Puddles for Christmas

December 25th, 2009 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Christmas at the HOP lovers!

Well, the HoPpers are going nuts on Christmas. I think it is because Marilyn has a leg of lamb in her crock pot for Christmas dinner. The hound in the beginning is Jeeps, resident interloper and frantic for lamb lover!

Howl much you wanna bet they each get a tiny bit of lamb?

Thanks for the video Marilyn and I hope you have some ear plugs. Crock pot = slow cooking = lots of barking!

More loving lamb later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer (1948)

December 24th, 2009 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Vintage Rudolph Lovers:

This is so cute and a must see for everyone! I cannot believe that this was done about 10 years before I was even born. I think I remember seeing it when I was little. I love YouTube. This runs about 8 minutes so make sure you have time to enjoy it!

J is for Jenny, Jasmine, Janie, and JOY…..

December 18th, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and the letter J lovers: Sound weird? Well, let me explain this tale of JOY!

A few months ago, House of Puddles supporter Jenny Standridge sent in another package of gold items for the gold rush. Inside the package were some really cool rings. One of them looked like this!

IMG_4955

J was for Jenny! So, I put my thinking cap on and came up with a perfect way to showcase the ring! J would now be for a Sr. HoPper that hailed from Kentucky. Jasmine!

Jasmine

YES! Jasmine would be perfect to sell this ring in honor of! Sweet, sweet Jasmine.

So, I took the ring to my jewelery store and found out that it is 10K. Scrapped it would be worth about 14.00 dollars. It is very thin and dainty. Of course I was not going to scrap it. My jeweler told me to put it in the HOP boutique for about 30.00 which we both thought was very fair.

Low and behold, I could not get it off my mind. You see, my BFF is named Janie. We have been BFFs since kindergarten. Can you believe that?

chef janie

Well, today we had our holiday lunch at PF Chang and I gave it to her and explained the meaning behind it.

I could tell she loved it. I know she will cherish it. J is for Janie now.

House of Puddles has a hound “Peecasso”!

December 16th, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Norman Peecasso Lovers: Following in the paw steps of the famous Picasso our very own Norman at House of Puddles has some amazing talent.

Norman

Now, all we have to do is find a way to sell it to the art crowd. Picasso was eNORMously famous for his vision resulting in odd shapes and designs.

Picasso-Norman

Well dear readers we have our own visionary. The famous Norman who can create his very own odd shapes and designs without a brush or canvas. The earth is his canvas!

norman HOP

I wonder what the great Picasso would think?

main_picasso

I guess we will never know but I bet Marilyn sure is proud! Here she is looking out the window at her genius, Norman.

Marilyn

Don’t forget that Andy Warhol sold a lot of “art” just like Normans!

More getting Norman an agent later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma (wanting to get in early before Norman’s prices sky rocket!)

Meet the newest HoPper – Sheriff Coltrane

December 12th, 2009 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Sheriff Coltrane Lovers: Wow, House of Puddles has yet another HoPper. That puts the total at 21. Meet Sheriff Coltrane!

Marilyn states,

“This is Sheriff Coltrane. I just picked him up from BROOD’s kennel this morning. He’s an old guy with a gimpy walk, given up by his owners because they couldn’t afford the vet bills. They had just gotten him 3 months ago off of Craig’s list. Coltrane would like to say hello but he’s a little busy right now.”
More about the Sheriff later.

Today is the last day to buy your holiday raffle tickets for House of Puddles!

December 4th, 2009 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Hellow Fellow Basset Hound and wanting to buy raffle ticket lovers:

Friday is the LAST DAY of Our Holiday Raffle

Time is running out, the raffle ends Friday, December 4th at midnight PST. The Hoppers are getting so excited for their big day on Saturday, when they’ll be drawing the winning tickets, all caught on video. Who doesn’t want to see a bunch of old basset hounds sticking their heads in a paper bag? You know you’ll feel guilty watching if you didn’t buy any tickets, so please get yours now!

We’ve got a ton of wonderful gifts in our Holiday Raffle – coffee, wine, hand-painted Karin Smith creations, a quilt, giant Hushpuppy, basset hound books and puzzles, a gardener’s basket and much more. And every dollar you spend helps to pay for the care of our senior hounds.

We’ve been maintaining 20 or more senior hounds for most of the year, eleven of which came to HOP in the last six months, five of them just since the end of September. Initial vet costs on neglected old dogs are huge! Bad teeth, bad ears, bad eyes, lumps, bumps, heartworms, you name it. We get these seniors healthy and feeling good again and let them enjoy their retirement years, but we can only do it with your help. Please visit our raffle. We’re grateful for any amount of tickets you can buy.

House of Puddles, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing lifetime care and love to homeless senior basset hounds who have no place else to go. Please visit us at www.houseofpuddles.org. If you would like to help us provide veterinary care, food and other necessities, please donate or buy a support bracelet.

More buying raffle tickets later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Santa just e-mailed the Mayor!

December 1st, 2009 - 3:03 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Santa Lovers! Well, Chaps just received an e-mail from Santa. Santa wanted to show the Mayor his new website.

Welcome to NORAD Tracks Santa

Chaps has also learned that Santa will be stopping at the House of Puddles first on Christmas Eve. Santa knows the elders will be in bed early and he can let the reindeer graze in the fenced in back yard area.

Here is a picture of where he lands. This picture was taken in the spring. I think Marilyn provides some hay as well.

Santa and the reindeer love the huge Christmas tree in the yard.

More Santa updates as the time draws closer……Love, Cat, Chaps, Emma, Enzo, and Romeo!
