Chaps showcases another ABC auction item!

September 28th, 2007 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Travel Lovers:

ABC’s – Bucks for Bassets has so many items that is it hard to pick, but Chaps and I have come up with our suggestion. We cannot bid on it as it is too rich for our blood! So here it is:
Enjoy Seven Nights At Conde Nast Gold List Members In Banff and Lake Louise

As you will see the package allows you to pick from three different properties. I would pick: Fairmont Banff Springs (Alberta)!

Untitled_18.jpg

This is a picture of me in front of Lake Louise,
the summer (1972 or 1973) my family traveled in Banff. We did not stay at the Fairmont! LOL! We camped in a VW Camper all over the USA, Mexico and Canada! Good times!

I hope the person who wins this wonderful package sends me pictures.

Buster’s KY Rain YouTube video!

September 27th, 2007 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Buster lovers: This is Buster’s YouTube video! He is such a good boy and I hope he finds a forever home soon. He really is a joy. He is healthy, neutered, sweet, and a real lover.

Here is the video I made in honor of Buster and his angel, my sister, Caryn Lee!

For information regarding Buster e-mail Chaps@bassethoundtown.com

Ft. Thomas, the BUSTERIFIC has landed!

September 26th, 2007 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and everyone who meets him, Buster lovers: (Except for Chaps!)

First off, I have to thank my younger sister, Caryn for saving Buster. Without her contacting me I would have never known about sweet Buster. Also, thank you John, the brother, for finding Buster the perfect situation any basset could ever have. A wonderful place in basset hound rescue. These folks are some of the best souls I have ever met. A big thank you to Susan of Bluegrass Basset Hound Rescue for taking him in. Susan, you rock!
Now, lets get to Busterific. He is the cutest hound you can ever imagine. So well behaved, sweet, and loving. I just got home and it is too hectic to take pictures or videos. This is my first foster and I am a nervous wreck. I have him in my bathroom that has a tile floor in case of mistakes. I also have a bed that my Mom said, “I wish I could crawl in there”! I just peaked and he is firmly in his bed. Chaps has attacked Emma once. He is not happy at all.

Back to Buster. He has already jumped into my Mom, Dad, and my heart. Both my Mom and Dad went nuts over him. If you have seen any pictures of Buster his ears looked really short. Well, they are not near that short. He always hold them up in a very quizzical manner. His eyes are huge and so expressive.

I did take one picture to try and capture his natural ear length and his beautiful eyes. Tomorrow we will totally capture him on film.

He is a lover boy.

Kerri Walsh serves as the shelter coordinator for Basset Rescue Network Inc (at Daphneyland).

September 24th, 2007 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Biscuit lovers. I just received an e-mail from the bassetabulous, Kerri Walsh!

Here it is:

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to send out an update on Biscuit to all of you concerned and caring hound lovers!

3137

First, let me briefly introduce myself.. I am Kerri Walsh and I serve as the shelter coordinator for Basset Rescue Network Inc (at Daphneyland). I check all of the southern California shelters on a daily basis for lost or abandoned basset hounds.

Dawn of the West on left, Kerri on the right in red!

I was in the process of checking the shelters about two weeks ago when Biscuit’s photograph popped up. She was brought into the Riverside Shelter as a stray and immediately placed in isolation. I have a good relationship with this particular shelter so I was able to get a copy of the veterinarian’s evaluation which stated that the wounds on her back were caused by intentional skin trauma or burns. I went two days later to pick her up and take her to the ranch. Dawn was standing by and we put her in the tub immediately for a cool bath with aloe treatments (straight from the plant). She has some deep scarring all along her back and sides so who knows what this poor baby may have been subjected to. Her recovery will take some time and she is currently on a special diet to boost her immune system and heal her wounds as fast as possible. You will be happy to hear that she was sassy as all getup in the tub when she came in! That being said, it was discovered that Biscuit had pnemonia – but she is getting better everyday in the solace of a suite at the Daphneyland Rescue Ranch. (If only I could be so pampered! I will be collecting donations for my pedicure shortly! ha ha ha)

We are almost there guys! Only 300.00 more needed to get this doggie in beauty pagent shape! WE CAN DO IT!

*** About donating online ***

It’s very easy to support Kerri online – just go to their page at the following web address and click “Give Now”

With love and drool,
Kerri

Kerri, I hope this blog posting will give you some more exposure. I also wanted everyone to know that Kerri’s website is on my blogroll. www.welcometodogcountry.com

Kerri also does experienced, loving pet care in your home or mine! Traveling for business or pleasure can be stressful for you and your pets. Let me help remove some of that stress. I have more than 10 years of experience in the animal services field and I am an active rescue volunteer. If you are looking for an experienced and loving pet sitter to watch over your extended fur-family while you are gone, look no further! Services available in the Inland Empire and extended distance upon request.

My goodness, if I lived near Kerri, I could actually take a vacation and feel good about it. More Later…Cat, Chaps and Emma

Fall Equinox – The science and significance of the autumnal equinox

September 23rd, 2007 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Fall Lovers: Today is the Fall Equinox!

In the language of science, an equinox is either of two points on the celestial sphere where the ecliptic and the celestial equator intersect. For the rest of us, it’s one of two times a year when the sun crosses the equator, and the day and night are of approximately equal length.

At the autumna/fall equinox, (Sept. 23, 2007, 5:51 A.M. EDT), the sun appears to cross the celestial equator, from north to south; this marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.

The vernal equinox, also known as “the first point of Aries,” is the point at which the sun appears to cross the celestial equator from south to north. This occurs about March 21, marking the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

On the date of either equinox, the sun is above the equator and night and day are of approximately equal length; the word equinox is often used to refer to either of these dates.

The equinoxes are not fixed points on the celestial sphere but move westward along the ecliptic, passing through all the constellations of the zodiacin 26,000 years. This motion is called the precession of the equinoxes. The vernal equinox is a reference point in the equatorial coordinate system.

And there you have it, your science lesson for the day. OK, I am done, you can wake up now!
