Operation Homer in progress!

December 29th, 2008 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Homer lovers! Well, I just got off the phone with the pound and Homer is ready to roll. All I need to do is slap on some pound lip gloss and hit the road. I can’t wait to see him. I sure wish I have some of my dear readers to go with me.

I am taking him to the vet as soon as I pick him up. I will probably go for a walk first. I will be taking my camera and reporting back to bassset hound town ASAP.

More reports from me later……Love Cat, Chaps and Emma

Tomorrow is the big day for Homer!

December 28th, 2008 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Homer Lovers: Well, tomorrow is our big day. For me it is bigger than Christmas. This is my best Christmas present ever, going to get Homer!

I sure wish I could foster him. Chaps won’t let me. Our Mayor is very strict. He attacks other dogs in most situations. What is worse, he attacks Emma as well. He is so fearful that she will make a friend other than him.
(can you say jealous?)

He has a few, “ISSUES”.

The few times I have fostered, our Chaps has also gotten sick and his vet bills were more than what boarding would be. We all have our problems. I respect the Mayor. I want him healthy and happy. I would have it no other way. That is why I cannot foster. I do dream of it, however!

Homer will be better off at the place I will place him in. It is a vet office very close to me. It is the same place I picked up another hound from and planned a transport for.

More Homer updates tomorrow!

Chaps and Emma visit the Alley Page from the Lily Book

December 28th, 2008 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and windy walk lovers: Yesterday Chaps, Emma, Grandma and I took a walk in the more than pleasant 70 weather. It was a windy day, and this picture says it all!

img_87901

This is one of my all time favorite pictures. Look how cute their ears look blowing in the wind. Just priceless.

Right behind them is the alley way in the Lily book!

lily-in-the-alley

I always thought that this alley way looked like a good place for a stray dog to tuck into. It still looks basically the same. What do you think?

You can click the picture to get a huge version. It might take longer to load on some computers.

After about an hour’s walk we headed home with Emma leading the way! She is just so cute. She was in the lead for most of our walk. No one is going to pass her up!

Mommy fixed dinner and then it was time to call it an early night. The kids were exhausted.

It’s hard to think that some kids don’t have nice warm beds like this and have to find a place to tuck into. I try to do what I can to help any stray. I still cannot believe that my Lily was a stray. I cannot imagine her fending for herself, but by Goodness she did. She was a little scrapper when she wanted to be and she fiercely defended our home.

For the first few months that I had her she always napped laying by the door with her ears cupped liked megaphones. I knew that this is how she slept on the streets so she could hear anything coming. I don’t think she took a deep sleep for quite awhile.

It was fun to re-visit the alley yesterday. I think all that wind blowing was Lily coming to visit from the bridge. Maybe that is why the ears blowing in the wind picture is now one of my all time favorites.

Thank you dear girl…………..

More wind blowing later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I had to share…………

December 27th, 2008 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow Hound and Emma lovers: I was just outside to brush my kids. All the other neighborhood kids are out riding bikes and playing. It is cracking me up because everyone looks so happy to be out the house! Anyway, I was brushing Emma and the little girls who live next door came over to check on her. Every time they see me they ask about Emma. How is Emma doing?

They brought their friend over so she could view Emma. The little girl just stared with the most concerned look on her face and said, “she is so beautiful”. It kind of choked me up a bit.

Out of the mouth of babes……….

OK what is up? It is 70 degrees in bassethoundtown today???

December 27th, 2008 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and freak of nature weather lovers: Today, December the 27, 2008 it is 70 degrees. I have all of my windows open and Chaps and Emma are loving it! We have plans to take a walk, if it does not rain.

First I am going to go brush them and get some dead winter hair out of their coats. It is kind of windy so I am sure the FUR WILL FLY! I have a family of cardinals that live in my back yard. Maybe they can use it! It might be kind of stinky, but very warm.

More freakish updates later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

BUMMER…….the pound was closed:(

December 26th, 2008 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow Hound and Homer lovers! OMG – I tried so hard to spring our guy today. However, the pound was closed. Here is the sign that was on the door.

I was not amused!!!!!!!! Anyway, my Mom and I decided to stick around for a couple of hours and see if anyone showed up to tend to the motley crew. Nope. Nada. No one. It was really weird and eerie outside! You could hear the the howling as I shot this photo.

The fog was thick as we pulled away, but before we did, I went around to the back and screamed, “Homer – I will be back on Monday, Homer, I love you.”

I thought that maybe he might recognize his name and that might make him feel better. If nothing else, it made me feel better.

T-minus 2.5 days and counting.

Keep that drool a flowin’ for our elder gentleman.

More loving Homer later……Cat, Grandma, Chaps and Emma

P.S. see that note to the left of the door as you are looking at the picture? That is the note I wrote to the workers who open up on Monday. I put it in a zip lock bag and taped it up. It states that I will be coming for our Homer Monday. I also put a treat in the bag.

Did someone say Odyssey? LOL

Homer’s Iliad and mostly Odyssey

December 26th, 2008 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Homer update lovers:

Wow, this is turning into an epic journey of love and war, hope and despair and honor and glory………Wait a second, that’s the book review.

Anyway, it is 12:30pm on Friday and I still cannot get anyone to answer the phone at the pound. So, I decided to drive over there and see if I can catch the dog catcher and beat down the mighty walls of Troy!

It will take me about an hour round trip.

I go out to my car with my Mapquest in hand and my battery is dead! I left the hatch open last night unloading the car with stuff from my sister’s home.

I come back in side and call AAA – a single girl’s dream car guy!

Mr. AAA shows up and the battery is charging, he said to drive it for about an hour! How handy!!!!!!!

I call my vet to see if I can get Mr. Odyssey in and they say “NO”. Can you believe that? I am so pissed. I don’t even know if I can get Homer, but for them to say no to me after the thousands and thousands of dollars I have spent with them. How rude. You can’t tell me they can’t find a spot for a 12 year old basset hound.

So, I call another vet I have been thinking of swtiching to. He is closer and guess what? He has a basset hound. I think it’s a sign. Oh, and one more thing. They have room for Homer the main man.

I don’t even know if I can spring the old guy today, but I am sure going to try. Hang in there buddy – we all want this epic journey to continue over the weekend!

More really bad references later…….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Everyone say Ahhhhhhh! Little Ryder with Santa!

December 25th, 2008 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Ryder lovers! This is Devon’s little boy enjoying a visit with Santa on his first Christmas. How cute. Devon said that he is her little basset hound rescuer in training! How much fun is little Ryder going to have with Devon and his Daddy, Todd?

Devon and I have been working hard on House of Puddles Gold Rush. We are going to roll out a new theme in January! With the help of many bassethoundtown residents we have raised over 6,000.00 towards our goal of 10,000.00 by June of 2009!

Now that is something to howl about!

More news later……Cat, Chaps and Emma

Chaps’s son, Colby Chaps last night waiting for Santa!

December 25th, 2008 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and Chaps’s son lovers! OMG – Look how cute Colby Chaps is waiting by the fireplace for Santa last night.

We can’t wait to see what Santa brought you little boy. Did you see your Daddy? He was with Santa all night. He got home early this morning and was so tired he went straight to bed! hehehe

More Christmas pictures later…….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Chaps and Emma open their gift!

December 25th, 2008 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Hound and gift lovers! Are you ready for a massive amount of pictures? My Goodness, I may have gone over board, (who me?) LOL…….

Santa Grandma arrived bright and early with the gift bag!

Ho Ho Ho – gifts are important, but the ritual is they get a treat everytime Grandma comes to visit! Off to the kitchen!

Now they are ready! Woo Hoo!

Emma gets hers, heads past her favorite toy straight to her bed, as usual!

From the blur of the picture you can tell she is moving pretty fast. Emma has a huge bed but she always lays in the area I call the “comfort corner”. Ever since she went blind this is where she mostly lays. Very interesting.

I bet it is how she gets her bearings. From this corner she can conquer the world!

My Mom always gets them the same toys. Just like human kids. They all want the same thing!

OK – now what?

How about a piece of Christmas sausage? A very special treat from Mommy?

(Notice appetizing drool puddle under Emma)!

OK – it’s back to the comfort corner! Yes, Emma has 2 comfort corners! I keep telling them the sausage is all gone!

OK – one more little treat and Emma heads back to her bed and her comfort corner. I cleaned up the kitchen and went to check on her and this what I saw. I kid you not. I did not stage this picture in the least.

Can you see? She has both new toys. We all know how smart she is. Chaps could care less.

More Holiday stories later……..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma the comfort corner girl!
