Happy Gotchaday, Winnie!

May 10th, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and waiting for an update on Winnie Lovers! Well here it is, right from Marilyn of House of Puddles:

Winnie got here around noon. She growled as each dog came up to greet her, but it was just a warning, kind of like, “Wait a minute, not so fast”. She seems more at ease with them now. She’s a very sweet girl, loves human attention, and really is very polite. She ate all of her dinner except for about 4 pieces of kibble, as if she thought it wouldn’t be lady like to clean her plate. She really looks quite healthy and I haven’t seen any evidence of being abused yet, either physically or mentally.

She enjoyed exploring her new yard.

Discovered the Coolaroo outside bed.

I think she’s gonna need a tummy tuck.

Wondering when dinner will be served.

Your Basset Hound Club of America news for May-June…

May 10th, 2009 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and needing to know the news lovers: I am a member of the BHCA which entitles me to keep up with what is going on in the world of showing basset hounds. The Basset Hound Club of America has never wanted to be affiliated with Basset Hound Rescue and states that on their website.

“While BHCA does not engage in basset rescue activities, there are basset hound rescue groups around the country working to find homes for homeless bassets. The groups whose links can be found on this website are supportive of our efforts to promote ethical practices in basset hound rescue.”

OK, this statement is not true. The links that are listed are great links, but there are about 40 more that are ethical with their practice in basset hound rescue. That statement made by the BHCA makes me very mad. Why would they say that? Come on……

There are members of the BHCA that work tirelessly for basset rescue (me being one) but that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about club as a voting whole.

UPDATE – 4-12-10 CAROL HUNT, EDITOR OF THE TALLY HO HAS DEMANDED THAT I REMOVE A PORTION OF THIS BLOG POSTING AND THE PRESIDENT’S PICTURE! (RANDY FREDERIKSEN)

THAT PART CRACKS ME UP!

In the current addition of the Tally-Ho, (May/June 2009) in the President’s Message by Randy Frederiksen, there is a proud announcement that is going to change the wording on their website!

PICTURE REMOVED……

STATEMENT REMOVED…..

BASICALLY WHAT I HAD TO REMOVE WERE RANDY’S WORDS REGARDING BASSET HOUND RESCUE. SO, LET ME TELL YOU WHAT HE SAID. RANDY BUMBLES AROUND AND TRIES TO EXPLAIN WHY IT HAS TAKEN SO LONG FOR THE BHCA TO GET ON BOARD AND ACKNOWLEDGE BASSET HOUND RESCUE. THE CLUB HAS FOUGHT TOOTH AND NAIL, KICKING AND SCREAMING FOR DECADES NOT TO GET INVOLVED. I HAVE PERSONALLY HAD MANY HEATED DISCUSSIONS WITH BHCA MEMBERS SLAMMING BASSET HOUND RESCUE.

SO, RANDY GOES ON TO SAY THAT THE BHCA HAS AUTHORIZED THEIR LAWYER, CHUCK CARNESE TO FINALLY GO AHEAD AND START A 501C3 FOR THE INCORPORATION OF THE BHCA FOUNDATION. THEY WILL TRY TO COLLECT TAX FREE DONATIONS SO THE FUNDS CAN GO TO RESCUE, RESEARCH AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS OR ACTIVITIES. SO RESCUE IS LUMPED IN WITH RESEARCH? I DON’T AGREE WITH RESEARCH, EDUCATION PROGRAMS OR ACTIVITIES BEING LUMPED INTO THE NEW NOT FOR PROFIT. JUST SAYIN’.

RANDY GOES ON TO EXPLAIN THAT 10 YEARS AGO SOMEONE BY THE NAME OF JIM DOK, THEN PRESIDENT OF THE BHCA TRIED TO BRING THE CLUB INTO THE FUTURE AND ACKNOWLEDGE BASSET HOUND RESCUE. IT WAS FIRST CALLED THE BASSET HOUND WELFARE CONCEPT. WOW, 10 YEARS AGO! THAT CERTAINLY DIED ON THE VINE.

WHAT A SHAME THAT IT HAS TAKEN THIS LONG TO FINALLY DO SOMETHING FOR HOMELESS BASSET HOUNDS.

RANDY GOES ON TO SAY THAT LARRY LITTLE, BHCA RESCUE COM, CHAIR FINALLY GOT THIS HEAVY CLUB TO WAKE UP AND REALIZE THAT OTHER BREED CLUBS HAD BEEN DOING THIS FOR DECADES.

RANDY CLAIMS THAT THE BENEFITS OUT WEIGHT THE MINIMAL WORK IT WILL TAKE????? SAY WHAT?

I DON’T EXACTLY BUY THAT EXCUSE. I THINK THE REASONS ARE MUCH BROADER AND MORE FINANCIAL. I WILL BE DOING MORE BLOGGING ABOUT THIS IN THE FUTURE.

THEN RANDY GOES ON TO SAY HOW GREAT THE NEW TAX FREE FOUNDATION IS. THEN WE ALL GOT A LETTER IN THE MAIL ASKING US FOR MONEY AND NOT TO FORGET THE WE CAN LEAVE A LEGACY!

OK – THAT ABOUT WRAPS UP WITH RANDY SAID. AS A MATTER OF FACT, MY RENDITION IS MUCH BETTER.

Well there you have it folks! The BHCA has finally agreed with the President who had such foresight and vision 10 years ago, Mr. Jim Dok.

I know Larry Little of GABR was a huge reason for this and I want to thank him publicly for all of his hard work. I had contacted Larry months ago to offer my services in this new branch of the club. I hope to be a part of it and report on it for many years to come.

4-10-10 UPATE – I WAS TOLD BY LARRY LITTLE MY HELP WAS NOT NEEDED AT THIS TIME. HIM AND RICHARD NANCE CAN HANDLE THE WORK LOAD. (HUH?)

I went to my very first Nationals 15 years ago and met a woman from basset hound rescue. I came home and had Lily within days with the help of that same lady. Darn, I wish I could remember her name.

I am thrilled to finally have the BHCA be a part of basset hound rescue! Like they always say…….

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER! GOOD JOB BOARD OF 2009! Oh, and by the way. Update our website with better wording regarding rescue and all of the links. I can help you with that. I have a near complete listing on my website. I work hard to keep it updated.

More BHCA news later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Anyone in need of a Father Son pair?

May 9th, 2009 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Father and Son lovers! Poor boys.

I received an e-mail a few days from Boone County Animal Shelter in KY. This is the same shelter that Homer was in.
====================================
Message from Laurie Delaney (shelter worker)
“We have 2 Bassets in need of rescue. We have contacted both KY and OH rescues and they are both full. They are both males (father & son), 7 yrs. and 5 yrs, and they both need to be neutered. Please let us know if you can help these boys. Thanks.”

THE SON

This pair was dumped because they were done breeding and the back yard breeders could not afford to feed them. I bet the family was paying taxes on all of the puppies they sold as well.

A huh……

Real kindly folk.

Valerie Bertinelli eat your heart out!

May 9th, 2009 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hounds and Valerie Bertinelli showing off haters!

Emma Slimderella is not going to parade around in her blue bikini with a sly grin on her face like Ms. Bertinelli, but she will report that she is one pound away from her goal!

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? Emma lost 9 pounds in 8 weeks. Her doctor was so impressed and just fawning all over her yesterday. Everyone was clapping and kissing her. And like a dippy dork, I forgot my camera. As Chaps would say, “Oh No”. Emma now weighs 65 pounds

So, then it the Mayor’s turn on the scale. He has been on a diet as well for 8 weeks. He only lost 5 pounds but Mommy is very proud. He has been on the same diet, but being an older gentlehound of 7.5 years his metabolism is a bit slower. That’s his story and he is sticking to it. Chaps now weighs 75 pounds. That is what he weighed when I picked him up from the TX show kennel. I though he looked so skinny. He looks good now. So, since the dippy dork forgot her camera here is a picture of the kids, just for good measure! This is just before I picked them up from TX in 2004.

How cute! This is Chaps at 75 pounds. He is carrying his 75 pounds a bit differently now!

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!
