It’s official! Remember Stanley?

November 2nd, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and new HoPper Lovers:

Remember Stanley, the newest addition to House of Puddles?

Well, a few Saturdays ago, Marilyn, house Mother to the current 21 elders, held a fall picnic at House of Puddles for friends. Everyone loves to view the Elders in their natural environment, roaming the house and grounds. I could not go but by GEORGE I want to go next year!

Here is Marilyn greeting the folks as they arrived.

IMG_6757

As I looked through all of the pictures I saw on different boards and forums one thing I always noticed was Buttermilk right by Marilyn’s side. Wow, that girl is a glue stick!

Here is another HOP supporter coming to love the hounds and likewise I am sure!

IMG_6716

So, my friend Susan went to the party and she made pupcakes! I was so impressed it just made me smile!

HopCakeTree2-1

Each HoPper represented as a sweet treat. How touching and true! Susan, you did such a great job!

So, Susan sat down the tree and herself and what happens next is truly amazing.

Stanley, the newest HopPer plopped in her lap and did not leave her side the entire time!

IMG_6715

I am not kidding, he did not leave her!

100_6082

They both felt the strongest connection. Stanley has no problem revealing his feelings!

100_6079

So, Marilyn and Susan had a little chat……..about Mr. love bug Stanley!

100_6084

And the rest is really history! Susan left with Stanley that night on a trial basis. We all know that it is really the other hounds in our life that make these decisions for us. Susan has Daisy and Toby. Susan and Stanley felt the connection but would Toby and Daisy?

randolph-hounds

Well, it did not happen over night but it did happen. It is all still very fresh. Susan announced days ago that Stanley is officially a member of her family. Thank DoG Toby and Daisy approved.

What a win, win for everyone.

You have to love a hound like Stanley that goes after what he wants. He saw Susan and said, “She is mine”! I guess you could call it, love at first sight!

More win, win and love, love later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

The Moon was my treat tonight, Howlloween in bassethoundtown 2009!

October 31st, 2009 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and 2009 Howlloween lovers. I really thought that we would have a huge year of kids trick or treating, but it was not that active. The one thing that was active was the Moon! It was popping in and out of the clouds all night and put on the most incredible show! My camera is not that great but I tried to capture the Moon in all of it’s Halloween glory. This was the first shot as the sun was setting!

IMG_4245

I took it right inside of my door way where we were waiting for the trick or treaters!

IMG_4236

Grandma is with the kids and they really want a Reece Cup. NO WAY! No Chocolate for hounds….

I mean it! (I had a few cubes of cheese for them!)

IMG_4238

Then I went out side to try to see the moon better. I turned around to see Chaps somewhat miffed that I had left him!

IMG_4243

But check this Moon shot out! It was not zoomed in on but just stunning!

IMG_4272

If you look at the door in the previous shot, you can see the same color of the sky reflecting back on the door. It was so cool. What a great night. Very magical.

I took about 50 shots with the zoom and they did not turn out with this lighting. You can see Chaps and Emma, trying to see what I was doing outside.

IMG_4292

Then, I got this shot. Can you imagine if I had a great camera how good I would be? LOL!

IMG_4307

It was just so HALLOWEEN! Chilly, almost full moon, and Chaps and Emma Howling. PERFECT!

More howling at the Moon later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

OK – it’s an oldie but a goodie! The Hounds From Hell!

October 31st, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Hounds from Hell Lovers! This video was taken on Howlloween, 2006. I am sure many of you have seen it, but for those of you who have not…………BEWARE!!!!!!!!!

More evil howling later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S., just look at our Emma. She had just as much fun tonight!

Here is the finished product from our Disco Hound Howlloween back in 1999!

October 31st, 2009 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Disco Queen Lovers: Back in 1999 Grandma, Chloe, Lily and I went trick or treating as Disco Queens! Here are the girls getting ready to Burn Baby Burn on the dance floor!

IMG_3887

All we needed was a mirrored ball and we were ready to dance!

OK, one mirrored ball…..Check!

IMG_3903

Yes dear readers I carried a mirrowed ball that spun, attached to a stick. I held it above the girls and we made our way around basset hound town. The sun was hitting it just perfect! You would not have believed the looks, laughter, and clapping we got. I had a mini tape recorder in my purse playing this song as well as many others.

I tell you what, we really out did ourselves that year.

More Disco Queen Memories Later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma…..(longing for platform shoes)!

BOO!

October 31st, 2009 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Howlloween Lovers: If you could have written the perfect script for Cabbage night, Devil’s night, Day of the Dead, Gate night, or Mizzy Night all commonly referred to as Mischief night, it would have been my house, last night.

It was right out of Hollywood. As the night began to fall the winds whipped up creating a high pitched buzz as they pushed their way through the branches emptying themselves of leaves.

The night before was our town’s pumpkin walk so all of the pumpkins were still outside, glowing and flickering, straining to keep their scary faces lit.

“Ding”. An e-mail arrived….with an attachement…..of a scary pumpkin! Basset Hound Town Resident Judy sent the pumpkin that her grand kids, Kennedy and Karli entered in the walk last night. They did not win. We think they were robbed. Robbed I tell you!

You really have to click on the picture to see all of the detail. It is very cool. I just love it. It wins first prize in our book!

JudyGKids

“Howl would you like your burger cooked?” RAWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!

I also received another attachment. Judy’s boy Bumper. I really thought it was Elvis!

Bumper as Elvis

What a good boy! I love how she has that guitar around his neck!

Well, the winds were still howling and I was really wanting to watch a scary movie but instead I found something 20 million times better!

A 7 hour show of Ghost Adventures……LIVE!

From the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum!

img-team

(The live portion of Ghost Adventures Live has come to a close, but you can catch the show later today at 5 PM E/P. Don’t miss the Ghost Adventures Live Post Mortem with Zak, Nick and Aaron on Friday, Nov. 6, at 8 PM E/P, right before the premiere of Ghost Adventures: Pennhurst State at 9 PM E/P.)

Can you imagine 7 hours Live? It started at 8:00pm and I made it until 1:00am. During the course of those 5 hours the following happened.

My alarm system went off.

2 doors slammed.

I smelled Chocolate Cake.

I heard screaming.

My computer shut off by it’s self.

My lights kept dimming.

Chaps threw up.

Emma had a bad dream.

The Police pulled over a car load of football players right in front of my house at 1:00am. Their figures looming large in my front yard. The rain creating a mist around their giant bodies. The shadows made them look like monsters in hoodies.

I had a bad dream (go figure).

All of these events, explainable perhaps….Except for the Chocolate Cake, you might say? Well, I have had a friendly spirit in my home (her home) since I moved in. She bakes Chocolate Cake at all hours of the night and day. Everyone in my family has smelled it.

She has been around less and less. But last night, she was baking a huge cake.

More ghost stories later….Do you have any?

Love, Cat and the hounds from HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Funny Lovers! I was just looking around FaceBook and saw this picture. I thought it was so funny and had to share!

Insert food here

It must have been created by New England Basset Hound Rescue. How do you like how I figured that out? LOL

More fun pictures later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Meet the newest HopPer….Floyd!

October 30th, 2009 - 2:02 pm KY Time
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and meeting Floyd Lovers…..
Marilyn has a new HoPper. His story is not the best, but everyone who stepped up to help him was. Especially our Marilyn…..Here is her post!
START OF POST
I got this email from a local mobile vet a couple days ago, trying to help a client rehome a senior basset that wasn’t living a very good life with him:

I have an owner who rescued a basset through a local group and would prefer not to return said dog to the rescue organization. The dog had been “rescued”, placed in a local veterinary hospital, neutered, and left in a run for a year with a caution sign hung (no one at the clinic bothered to discover the dog has little vision which is why he fear barks-no biting ever and he calms down if you go slowly and he loves attention once he relaxes). The first time I saw this dog it had just been adopted by this owner. Upon physical examination, I noted that the neuter sutures were still in place and it had been a YEAR since his neuter surgery! Needless to say the rescue group’s fostering ability was called into question.

So more than a year has passed and this poor dog is living in this owner’s home even though I have suggested numerous times that he needs to rehome the dog. The owner is afraid of the dog because he does a fear bark. This dog is not mean or vicious, just nervous because he has very limited sight. My technician and I are able to do everything necessary to help this dog, from routine physicals, blood draws and toenail trims to dry baths and ear cleanings. My technician spends about 20 minutes walking the dog outside at each visit because this is the only outdoor time the dog gets-the owner is too afraid to teach him to go outside through the screen door, even though I’ve brought a certified dog trainer with me to a visit and showed him how very trainable this dog actually is.

Currently the dog urinates and defecates in the house, gets fed regularly, has access to water at all times, and gets minimal (if any) other attention. The owner lives with his mother who is in senior dementia stages and cannot help to assist with the dog. In short, it is a very difficult living experience for both the owner and the poor basset.

I know that you are not in the habit of accepting senior bassets without having the owner first go through the rescue groups, but in this instance the sooner we get this dog out of this environment, the better. The owner has requested we rehome this dog or he’s going to have him put to sleep. I do not believe that this dog’s race is run yet and will refuse to perform the euthanasia, but am concerned of what will become of the dog otherwise-the reason he contacted me in the first place was because he is unable to get the dog into the car (surprising, I am able to lift the dog into my van at every visit.

Please let me know of any options or solutions you may have for this case. I am truly at my wits end with this owner and feeling very sorry for this poor, sweet senior basset.

Thanks & cheers,

Turns out the owner had actually called the woman from the other rescue he got Floyd from (not BROOD) about taking him back, since he had the contractual obligation to return him, but she refused, said she had no room and told him to contact me.

He’s very subdued right now, no tail wagging, no response to affection, even ducks when you reach out to pet him. Did not want to eat last night, slept in the house but did not want to come back in when I put him out this morning. He used to be a farm dog before he was “rescued”, so he’ll be fine outside for the day. Temp is in the mid 60’s and cloudy but no rain. The mobile vet said he also seems to have little seizures, where he just sits and stares, but she’s willing to keep treating him at cost since she’s grown attached to him. She also got the owner to make a $500 donation to HOP.

Floyd is a very handsome old dude, about 10 years old.

HOP needs your votes in Rachel Ray’s Mutt Madness Contest!

October 30th, 2009 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound, House of Puddles, and Mutt Madness Lovers!

rr

As many of you may have heard, House of Puddles has made it into round two of Rachel Ray’s Mutt Madness Contest! I am not exactly sure when voting is over for this week, but please just vote today if you have not already voted. Also, can you tell your friends and co-workers to vote as well. Every time that HOP makes it into the next round they are awarded 1,000 dollars. I just cannot be more excited for them. Also, look how excited the old kids are! Keep in mind there are about 12 more in different rooms.

100_6064

What a beautiful site to behold! Here is the link to the voting booth. You must be registered to vote. I had a bit of trouble because my browser was not updated.

RACHEL RAY MUTT MADNESS VOTING LINK

If HOP wins, they will receive 50,000 dollars and most likely be on the Rachel Ray show, but I am not sure of that one. Can you imagine the exposure Marilyn could give to all basset hound rescues with an interview from Rachel? OMG I just got cold chills!

House of Puddles is the only basset hound rescue that was selected by Rachel’s rescue team to participate in Mutt Madness. (cold chills again)!

So, let’s all march to that voting booth together!

More pep talks later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
