Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Easter Bonnet Lovers…Before Grandma, Daisy Lynn and I took off for our Day Trippin’ adventure Grandma snapped the perfect Easter Bonnet shot!  Can you even believe howl cute this is?

Then we took off to show off!  LOL – We took off the bonnet and headed to Miami Whitewater Forest in Cincinnati.  Wow, wow, wow!

This state park is a jewel in the Hamilton County, Ohio park system.  The walking trails are paved, wide and flat.

Look behind me.  It was like entering a wonderland!

It was really a magical day filled with basset hound vibes everywhere!!!

I spotted a basset hound almost immediately…

His name is Clifford! I invited him to the bassethoundtown walking club event on May 4th, 1:00pm.

Clifford was rescued from Ohio Basset Hound Rescue and just a fine elder gentlehound.

Then as we went down the pathway we met a man who fell in love with Daisy Lynn.  His 13-year-old basset girl was at home.  She was rescued from Guardian Angel Basset Hound Rescue!

Next up…a woman and her family stopped us to say that knew the woman who runs Outlaw Basset Hound Rescue right up the road from where we were.  What a set of circumstances!

But then the best was right around the corner…an elderly man with a cap that said MARINE CORP.  He was somewhat unsteady on his feet with a big walking stick but was going to make it over to Daisy Lynn come hell or high water.  He immediately said, “I had a basset hound for 10 years”.  He went on to tell us of  the hound’s wonderful rabbit hunting skills and the delicious stew he would make. He actually called it by its correct name, hasenpfeffer.  I swear I saw a glint in his eye.  He then told me I should let Daisy Lynn do some hunting.  “Just turn her loose and she will circle around with the rabbit”, and then he said I can shoot the rabbit.  Can you image me, letting this hound, with the Easter Bonnet on, off leash to hunt down a rabbit so I can shoot it?  I had to giggle a little.  If he only knew – hehehe

He was such a great man with cherished memories of his beloved basset.  I hope we see him again!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and not passing this one up lovers…I have been trying really hard to cut back on my personal collection (not my boutique items) of basset hound stuff.

I would put my collection up against any in the world and I am not kidding!!!

I saw this piece of art and I just could not pass it up!

Has anyone ever seen this figurine?  Over all of my decades of searching and buying basset hound collectables I have never seen this one!

This figurine was made in Japan from the same place that did the Boswell figurines.  This white one is a bit larger at about 9” long.

Those are mostly daisies, so it immediately stole my heart.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and hoping for the oldest basset hound ever…I have heard of some telling tails of really old bassets but there was never ever proof!

Recently, I saw a post on a basset forum regarding this topic and I thought I would share it with the residents…

Here is the post…

“I thought I would ask this group what is the oldest basset hound you’re aware of? I have a 19 year old basset hound named Norma. She recently had surgery to remove an infected lymphatic tumor that was benign but causing her some range of motion issues. The vet who did the surgery asked me if she was in fact 19 because if she is, she’s in fantastic shape! She had never heard of a basset hound being that old. I told her to look back in her records because I’ve had her since I was a sophomore in high school and I’m in my 30’s now, plus she’s been a patient at the clinic her entire life. She was born in 1995.

I was terribly nervous electing to do surgery on Norma, but her bloodwork came back all within normal range and the vet was extremely meticulous about being prepared in the operating room to keep her under anesthesia for the shortest amount of time possible. She had the staff prep for all possible scenarios so she didn’t have to wait for supplies to be found and brought in if they were needed. For that, I’m very appreciative. Norma’s recovery has been uneventful and she’s back to her silly hound self. She spends her days napping on the couch, eating and barking at the chickens in the yard. She even still makes it out every once in a while to do therapy dog visits to the local nursing home. She made me laugh the other day when she bounded across the yard and caught one of the chickens. She didn’t hurt it but sure did make it angry. LOL! Clearly she’s feeling a lot better now that the tumor is off her shoulder. The only old age issue we’re really facing is hearing loss. Either that or her hearing has become even more selective in her old age! There are times that I think she hears but there are times where it’s clear she doesn’t.

I love my old girl and hope for nothing more than the joy of being able to celebrate her 20th birthday. So tell me about the oldest bassets you know of! 

She is by far the best dog I’ve ever had. Always just so laid back and loves people. Some of my fondest memories are of her at her therapy visits. At Children’s Hospital, I remember one visit in the play room with a little girl who was there for heart surgery. She had Down Syndrome and had a hard time communicating with the other kids. Norma sat with her for hours and the girl dressed her up, held crayons in her paws and made her color in coloring books, she had a tea party with her and Norma just sat there loving all the attention she was getting. She LOVES kids and just perks up when she’s around them.

She has her moments of naughtiness though. We call her the butter ninja. If you leave a stick of butter out on the cupboard, she will take it. She’s even been so quick that I put a stick of butter in the mixer and walked into the pantry to get my dry ingredients to make cookies and when I came back with the sugar and flour, the butter was GONE with no sound and no dog in sight!   She’s even so determined that she pushes a dining chair over to the cupboard to climb up and hop over the baby gate to get into the bedrooms when she wants to sleep in the bed instead of the on the couch. That’s about as bad as she gets and even when she does that, you can’t be mad at her.”

“I will be devastated to lose her when that time comes and I really feared that it was going to be a few weeks ago when that infection took hold and we either needed to operate or put her down because she was in so much pain.  I didn’t think the vet would consent to taking her in for surgery but she has surprised us all and is really thriving. We’ve been saying for years that Norma only has a short time left because we were always told bassets live to be 12-14 years old. But, at 19, Norma is proving everyone wrong and doing it in style!”

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Spring Sunday Stroll Lovers…Our weekend of blossom blooming viewing continued today.  We made our way over to the Boone County Kentucky Arboretum with a picnic lunch…

Then we took off on a three mile walk around the ever changing gardens…

These areas were in full bloom much to our delight! The yellow magnolias are almost ready…

We were down the path under the trees having a photo shoot.  Everyone walking by told us howl beautiful Daisy Lynn looked!

Such a peaceful and serene day…

Look at this person who was laying in a tree hammock in the woods!

Then to cap off the day, Grandma bagged the money shot!

She calls it…“A Daisy Among the Daffodils”…

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Cherry Blossom Lovers…OMDog, OMDog, OMDog…

Grandma, Daisy Lynn and I had the gracious gift of visiting this magnificent park today.

Today when the Cherry Blossoms were at peak.  This is Ault Park, Cincinnati, Ohio…

There is a Cherry Tree forest that lines the Observatory Street entrance that is beyond magic.

Daisy Lynn and I were sitting on a field of yellow flowers that dotted the landscape.

It was so peaceful and everyone was silent and in awe as we all felt so special today…

The sunlight was turning everything pink!  It was just so powerful…

This park is about 224 acres and we only ever scratch the surface when we visit.  As you might imagine we spent most of our time in awe of the Cherry Blossom Forest.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Famous Hound Lovers…I was just over at facebook sniffing around and was pleased to learn that one of my “friends” visited this statue in Budapest Hungry!

Yes dear residents it is none other than Peter Faulk of Columbo and his trusty side kick “Dog”.

“Budapest has paid tribute to dishevelled detective Lieutenant Columbo by erecting a statue in honour of Peter Falk, the man who brought the classic TV character to life.

Born in New York, the late actor had Hungarian ancestry and said his great-grandfather could have been the Hungarian writer and politician Miksa Falk.

Peter Falk died in Beverly Hills at the age of 83 in 2011.”

I think it is fairly new.  Just thought I would share!

PS – A little know fact…

Columbo’s dog was originally called Fang. The spin-off series KATE LOVES A MYSTERY (MRS. COLUMBO)/NBC/1979 featured the wife of Detective Columbo, Kate Columbo (Kate Mulgrew) who owned a lazy basset hound dog named Whitefang.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Bumper and Abby Alessandro lovers…Ahhhhh they are so cute and just love me as much as I love them.  Well…I didn’t get a good picture of Abby but check out me and “The Bump”!

Oh, he was so happy that I gave him a nice long petting session.  Abby was napping near by.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Healthy Feel Good Meal Lovers.  This is a meal for humans!

I thought I would post this here because oddly it is something you can make after the natural and holistic flea spray.  You have some of the ingredients so why not?  When you get the stuff to make the flea spray you can pick up a few more things for this feel good meal!

I bought a huge baked and breaded chicken breast from the Whole Foods Deli (no antibiotics no GMOs) and sliced it into 4 small plastic cups.  I normally put them in the freezer for future use.

I added a big sprig of Rosemary and about 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice.  I saute the mixture until the pan is hot and coated with some of the oils from the baked chicken breading.

Then you take it out of the skillet and pitch the rosemary.

Add a tortilla (more about that later)…

Add Havarti cheese and spinach…

Then add the chicken and more cheese…

Now for the top tortilla.

Depending on your skillet you might need a bit of oil.  I did not use any because I kept flipping it by laying a plate over top to change sides.

Press so the bottoms brown…Also, you can see the edges getting kind of crispy and sealing…

I use these totally awesome sprouted grains, flourless, organic, GMO free tortillas…

For being so healthy they are really good.

So…just thought I would share!
