HOP has been selected to participate in Rachael Ray’s Mutt Madness contest for cash awards of $50,000 for first place and $25,000 for second place. There will be 6 rounds of voting to eliminate candidates-the 1st round started this week with 32 pairs of rescues to vote for. HOP is on the left-hand side, 11 down from the top. Please register on Rachael’s site and vote for HOP! It takes a few minutes – you have to register, then vote for one rescue in each bracket on both sides of the page…but it’s 5 minutes well spent. Log on and vote for HOP!

Then check back every week for the next round to see if HOP is still in the race. Each time we go through to the next round, we win $1,000! So even if we don’t win one of the big prizes, we can still earn several $K. Round 2 starts 10/19. Only YOU can help us!

Remember, you need to vote for each of the 32 pairs, then submit your final vote at the bottom of the voting page in order for your vote to count. You will get an acknowledgement at the bottom of the voting page if you are successful. And don’t worry, it will get easier every week as Awards Candidates are eliminated. Thank you for your vote!

By the way, it appears that HOP is the ONLY basset hound rescue in the contest!

I will keep reminding everyone to vote. I had a bit of trouble at first but I switched browsers and was successful. I think we can do this folks! Please, pass this information along to your friends and family.

Are we excited or what?

If you want to read more about this contest here is Rachel’s press release for the contest on her blog….

Brigitte Bardot with Basset Hound – Sold

October 15th, 2009 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and old Black and White Pictures of Brigitte Bardot and a Basset Hound Lovers! LOL!

Anyway, I was sniffing around the internet this morning and ran across this wonderful photograph of Brigitte Bardot with this cute basset hound. It was taken in 1967 during a movie she made called:

A coeur joie (Two Weeks in September) I googled it, but it mentions nothing about the basset, just a brief summary about how Bardot is in a loveless marriage and finds love else where. Yawn.

bbandb

Looks like the best part of this movie is probably in this scene!

Interestingly, this original photo sold for about 20 bucks on E-bay. I probably would have paid that.

More rare photos later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Interesting video…..

October 14th, 2009 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and another YouTube video lover:

I disagree a bit with this main woman talking. I don’t think bassets are lazy. The video is cute, but I think the interview is a bit off. What do you think?

I think that a basset hound can be just as active as any other dog. It totally depends on the human as well. If you sit on the couch, so will they. If you go for a walk, so will they. Basset Hounds can actually out distance a marathon runner.

Their activity level totally depends on us.

More interesting videos later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Disco Lily for Halloween!

October 13th, 2009 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Halloween Lovers! I have some fun pictures I want to post of Chloe and Lily from a past Halloween very soon. As a matter of fact, I based a page of the Lily book on that day. I think it was back in 2002 or so. I am still digging out the actual pictures for our viewing pleasure, but I thought you might enjoy seeing the page in the Lily book that the upcoming pictures are from.

P06_disco ball

I love this page and the inspiration the girls gave me for it. This is an actual picture of Lily on Halloween. I made her and Chloe orange tube tops. It was so much fun. I cannot wait to show you the actual event! You will crack up! I totally guarantee it!

Coming soon…..

Bath time at the Doyle house! Ahhh, I can smell wet hound from here!

October 13th, 2009 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Wet Hound Smell Lovers!

Basset Hound Town residents Jethro, Ozzie, Harriet, and Rugs all got a bath and we get to see pictures! I MAY never complain again about giving Chaps and Emma a bath again. However, I probably will! This blog is picture and fun heavy! Cindy, the Mom person, first attempts to do the dirty job in the bath tub.

Here she has the hose hooked up in the bassetabulous doggie room. All systems are progressing!

making sure the hose is on shower setting

Now you can see a full view of this totally pawsome set up for her hounds. Look at those beds! Cindy, when I visit this is where I am sleeping, FYI! (minus the hose)

This is hooking up to the utility sink

This picture cracks me up. She has to run the hose all the way to the tub. Quite the elaborate setup!

Getting hose to bathroom

Check out her bath matt!

Comforter on floor to soak up Jethro water

The hounds are getting a bit edgy and very nervous. Check out Jethro in the background. He is first on deck….

Jethro in background knows he's doomed

This is a hound that is not too happy and neither is Mommy with the set up!

What a mess! See all of the hair?

Bathroom bath mission is scrubbed and back yard bath mission now in progress!

Relocated outside! Got Oz done.

OK, who just got the scrub down? It was OZZIE! Where is OZZIE?

And away the hound goes! LOL

Soapy Oz runs in dog room as I try to take pic.

Harriet is now running for cover after her bath!

Harriet running for cover after her bath.

At least she can still be proud of her purple toe nails!

had to take a pic of harriet's pretty purple nails!

Now it’s time for Rugby! Rugby…..where are you?

Rugby knows it's his turn. Poor Boy!

Rugby get back here please!

Rugby good and soaped up.

Jethro dares his Mommy to even touch him. How could you Mommy?

Jethro dares me to even touch him again.

Look at us, we are so pretty…but mad!

Jethro and Ozzie giving me the "I Dare You" look.

Harriet has the right idea! Just sleep it off!

Harriet in bed giving me the "I Dare You" look.

Wow, job well done Cindy! I loved every minute of it. Most probably because I did not have to participate.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh….I love the smell of wet hound in the morning!

More loving wet hounds later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

We say God Speed to one of the Greats…Scully Monster:(

October 12th, 2009 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Scully Monster Lovers: It is with great sadness that I announce that our Scully has passed away. Scully is survived by her parents, Mary and Martin.

DSCF0043

DSCF0095

Scully was such a brave girl. She succumbed to the dreaded cancer late last night. Scully fought a hard fight and held on for many, many months after her initial diagnosis.

100_1465

The Monster, as she was affectionately called, lived life to it’s fullest and brought us all such joy and laughter with her many stories.

DSC_0114

Her life was full of love and she never had to question that.

DSC_0638

DSC_0737

Scully lived for food and her Mommy and Daddy always had plenty of treats for her. She was, for the most part, always hungry. LOL!

As the years passed her face grew white with wisdom.

IMG_0713

The same wisdom her Mommy and Daddy had when they helped her to the bridge.

She had a way of teaching us all what it was like to live like a basset hound. Her sweet soul will be missed by many but none so much as her Mommy and Daddy. We know she was your world.

Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma along with the residents of Basset Hound Town…..

Now for a short bio about our girl…….

SHORT BIO:
I graced this world with my presence on April 11, 1998, so that makes me 11 years old. My momslave had wanted a basset hound since she was a little wee one, and that is why my humans came looking for me–it was finally time to make that childhood dream come true. I’ve been loved by my family since they brought me home on July 19, 1998, at the age of 14 weeks old.

Currently, the foodslaves and I live on the west coast of Canada. I lived with them in Toronto for 7 years though, and also in New Zealand for a year.

If you think I’m a little full of myself, you’re absolutely right. It’s not my fault though…my humans have spent my entire life treating me like a Queen and telling me how I’m the best basset on earth!! I choose to believe them.

On October 28, 2008, I was diagnosed with lymphoma. My family and I are really sad that I got cancer, however, I am going to be a strong girl and fight that evil lymphoma with everything in me. I went through chemotherapy, and am happy to report that it was successful in putting me into remission! Sadly though, after 8 and a half months of being in remission, the cancer has now come back. My people are going to see if a rescue protocol will work to put me back in remission. We are enjoying every day we share together, no matter how many more that may be.
In case you are wondering, yes, I am indeed named after Agent Scully from the X-Files. However, I couldn’t care less about the truth or extraterrestrial life forms; what I’m in search of is TREATS! Yup, the treats are out there, and it is my mission in life to snatch them up whenever the opportunity arises.

In an attempt to reach my ultimate goal in life — to eat as much as possible — I have mastered the crafts of counter-cruising and table-surfing. This is why I chose to call my website CounterCruiser.com. Food thievery is what I specialize in, and I take pride in my work!

NICKNAMES:
I am often referred to as “Scully-Monster”. This is a nickname that I earned because, apparently, when I was a youngster, I was a bundle of crazy energy with an affinity for nibbling on human appendages, and peeing everywhere. I admit to nothing of the sort.

I am also commonly referred to by my humans as “Foodwhore”. That’s pretty self-explanatory, huh.

Some other things I get called: Scullinator, Wiggle-Bum, Schmoopinator, Beautiful, Lady Poops-a-Lot, and the list goes on and on. Geez, it’s a wonder I ever learned my real name.

PET PEEVES:
Being immersed in water, sprayed with water, taken outside when water is falling from the sky, or being made to walk on wet ground. The only water I want contact with is the kind that magically appears in my water dish.

Pedicures. These are a form of basset torture just a step below tub torture, and must not be performed without giving some hardcore suck-up treats afterward.

Ear cleaning sessions. Clean ears at your own risk….I will run away from you, and make you feel really really guilty for performing this atrocity on me. Be prepared to get slimed by flying drool afterwards.

Being left alone. It is not advised that I be left under any circumstances without providing ear plugs to anyone within a 10 mile radius. I protest loudly!

100_1960

We will miss you dear girl and we have our bridge candle lit so you can find your way.
