Merry Go Round and Round!

June 26th, 2009 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Merry Go Round Lovers! OMG! Who does not like a Merry Go Round? Well, my nephew Julian had to be talked into it. It did not take too much. We went to a really old amusement park today and the Merry Go Round is my favorite! He is so sweet and he acquiesced for me!

img_20331

He ran off to one of his boy rides after this picture and I took this one. Oh, how I love a Merry Go Round!

img_20391

I love magic.

Then we ran like the wind to the Ferris wheel!

img_2071

img_20643

My Mom and Dad went to this park as kids. It is called Coney Island. Just like the NY Coney Island. I think it was built right after the NY one.

Then we went to the duckie area! Pull a duck, win a prize! Fun, Fun, Fun!

img_2058

It only took 5 dollars to win a marble! Yes!

How much fun! Coney Island!

More bragging about fun later………Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma!

Where were you when Michael Jackson died?

June 26th, 2009 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and where were you lovers? As many of my dear readers know, I have been away from my beloved readers and blog for a few days now. I am spending time with my nephew which I love! The pace is frantic and it’s a bit hard to keep up in this oppressive 90 plus degree weather but I enjoy every second. The dinosaur exhibit was great fun!

img_1951

Last night we tucked into a tiny booth at a neighborhood Italian restaurant to have Julian’s favorite meal. He was facing the huge flat screen TV and I was drinking my 14th glass of water trying to re-hydrate when he looked at me and said, “Michael Jackson had a heart attack?!?!”

The backs on the booths were so high that he kept getting up to read the scroll for me.

Julian and I were having our favorite meal when Michael was pronounced dead. They say you always remember stuff like that. I have even heard some commentators mention it, “Where were you?”

Frankly, it was not a shock to me at all.

Here is my favorite MJ song. My sister and I actually had the police called to our apartment for playing this too loud back when it was first released. The cops were laughing at us, but we turned it down. It is just the kind of song that you have to blast and sing along with!

Residents Cindy, Jethro, Rugby, Ozzie and Harriet submit ear lengths for the record!

June 24th, 2009 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Official Ear Measurement Lovers! Cindy and her hounds have been residents of Basset Hound Town for a long time. About as long as Jethro’s ears! Well folks, we have a front runner as of 6-24-09 and his name is Jethro Doyle. Based upon the measuring rules that we have in BHT the ear is not pulled tight, but just enough to take the slack out.

Jethro Doyle: 10 and 1/4”! Just look at that face.

ears-jethro-doyle-6-21-09

Cindy’s next measuring victim was Rugby, AKA Rugs. Mr. Rugs measures in at 8 and 1/4”. He does not like the camera too much.

ears-rugby-doyle-6-21-09

Next up we have the enchanting Ozzie Doyle with a dainty 7” measurment. Oh, look how cute she is. Cindy you have some good measuring technique!

ears-ozzie-doyle

Last, but not least is Harriet. This girl measures 7 and 1/4 inches. She was none to pleased to be awakened from her nap for this tedious task!

ears-harriet-6-21-09

So there you have it folks, 4 more residents howl in with official measurements. We will keep them safe and sound in basset hound town. Emma, has proclaimed herself town historian and keeper of the measurements!

Cindy, thank you so much. Your kids are precious.

More ears later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I stayed up all night once to hear this song….

June 22nd, 2009 - 3:03 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and staying up all night long lovers: OMG! I remember vividly staying up all night long back in 1969 to hear this song. I had my little transistor right by my ear. I was obsessed with this song.

The Spiral Starecase – More Today Than Yesterday, Mar ’69.

You have to check out the moves the bass player has…..LOL I am going to use them the next time I break out in song to the kids.

You ask why I am showing you this video? It is because I still love the song and I sing it Chaps and Emma more today than yesterday!

Maybe I should re-consider my singing???????????? I am driving off my fans!

More NOT staying up all night to hear this song later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

High flying hounds land in Sarasota….

June 22nd, 2009 - 7:07 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and High flying Hound Lovers: This story came across the bassethoundtown news desk yesterday.

houndsflying1

SARASOTA – Some basset hounds got a first class trip to the Bay Area over the weekend. The four dogs came here by private plane.

The dogs were rescued in Tallahassee, but they ran out of room to keep them all. So they were brought to a shelter in our area.

A local pilot from Sarasota was called to help transport the dogs.

Troy Branning was flying home from Tennessee anyway, so it was on his way.

“So on the way back from Tennessee, we stopped in Tallahassee and picked up the dogs and we’re dropping them off here. But unfortunately we fell in love with one of them on the way and we’re going to take him home with us,” he explained.

The rest of the hounds will be taken to the local basset rescue in Parrish.

Happy Father’s day Magnum, Love Chaps

June 21st, 2009 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Father’s Day lovers. Chaps, like Emma is certainly one of those. One of the reasons I decided to go to a BHCA/AKC breeder for Chaps and Emma was to have a family bond with the hounds. I wanted to share pictures and stories and just smother myself in hound heritage. I guess I am a bit more obssessed about heritage than most. Except for Chaps son, Colby Chaps, we hardly ever hear from anyone. Every now and then we get a CHERISHED picture from Chaps Dad. Chaps is just the spitting image of him and I just tear up every time I see Magnum.

This picture has had a tone added to the color. Magnum is almost totally white now as you will see in the second shot.

cf09044

Chap’s Daddy! Wow, you can sure see where Chaps got his looks. Oh, be still my heart!

Now this is Daddy in the bushes.

magnumbushes

Magnum lives in FL with his family. I know he is enjoying his special day. I wonder if Chaps will be all white some day?

More wondering later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Happy Father’s Day Titan, Love Emma….

June 21st, 2009 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Father’s Day Lovers: Well, Emma is certainly one of those. Emma’s Daddy is a big, freckled guy named Titan.

titan

I got to meet Titan when I drove to TX to pick up Emma and Chaps. Chaps hated him with a passion. Titan was (and maybe still is?) the stud dog at the BoBac Facility and has Fathered many, many litters.

Little Emmers only had one picture taken with her Father and then I whisked her off to the good life!

emmas-family

Happy Father’s day Daddy. We hope you are doing well and have a nice life. Love, Emma

More wishes later…..Love, Cat and Emma (not Chaps, he could care less about Titan)

Indonesian Wedding Bed. Fit for a Basset Hound… Yes!

June 20th, 2009 - 5:05 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and wondering what the heck an Indonesian Wedding Bed is Lovers?????????

Hey, I had no idea either. Until my sister and her husband bought one and then decided to sell it! I was first in line! This was 12 years ago. This bed is one of my prize possessions. So much so, I featured it in the Lily book. I also graphically designed my favorite KY statement at the the top of the bed for the Lily book. Here is that image and statement…………

IF YOU SLEEP ON THE SAME PILLOW A DOG SLEEPS ON YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME DREAMS THAT DOG DOES……….

p28_bed-page1

I have not slept in this bed since I brought the kids home in 2004. This love of my life bed is too high for the kids so we all crash in the living room in front of the TV! Hey, it works for us!

So, I needed to find a place to show my dear readers the posters that I had foam core mounted. Here is Emma!

img_1918

Now my bedroom houses dog food buckets and Lily books! That is until my nephew comes over. This is actually his room now.

Here is Chaps checking out his poster. He is not in the bedroom, just right outside in the hall.

img_1923

I know I showed you guys these proofs, but now they are mounted and I wanted to show them off again. I think I might hang them in the hallway that leads up to my my Mom and Dad’s home. I own a really cool, old 1950s two family that I bought 12 years ago. My parents live in the top home or should I say the top dog house.

Everyone who reads this blog knows we live in a dog house. Just how we like it! Just how we dream!

Slurp!

More Sluprin’ later…….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Jon of Bjorkwood Kennels in Sweden discusses on DogCast Radio “What I look for in a pupper buyer”.

June 20th, 2009 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and interesting radio topic lovers:

I really enjoyed listening to this Podcast from DogCast Radio about what a top breeder in Sweden looks for in a potential puppy purchaser. The Podcast is about a half hour long so you might want to save it for when you are having a nice cool drink and relaxing with the kids. Julie, who has DogCast Radio is brilliant and very nice to listen to. Jon does a great job and I just found it very pleasant indeed.

I met Jon on Twitter. Here is his picture with some of his WOOFS! That is what he calls the hounds which is really cute!

jonbuscall

His Kennel is Bjorkwood.

Here is the link to the interview:

Episode 89 – Be the Ideal Puppy Purchaser and the Dog in Art

I actually listened in the PopUp window.
